Q. What is a NIN? A. The National Identification Number (NIN) is the unique number which identifies you as a Nigerian, and is issued to you upon enrollment by NIMC (the National Identity Management Commission). It is used to match your biometric data and other details in the National Identity Database during verification and authentication. Q: Please what is so special about this NIN number? A: The NIN is used to tie all records about an individual into the National Identity Database and is also used as a valid means of establishing or verifying individual identity Q. How do I register for NIN? A. You can register in any NIMC ECRs (Enrollment Centres) close to you. Kindly visit www.nimc.gov.ng for a list of all enrollment centers nationwide. Q. How do I confirm my NIN number? A. You can check your NIN Slip, it has your 11 Digit Number at the top left corner, on the second row. You can also dial *346# and press 1, please note that you may be charged 20 naira. Q. I have a NIN. What next should I do? A. Please provide us with your NIN, for further validation with NIMC. You can do this easily by dialing *785# free of charge and following the prompts. You can also submit your NIN to us on myMTN app. After your NIN has been submitted, we will begin the process of verification with the NIMC. If your NIN is verified, we will link it to your MTN SIM registration, and you may not need to do anything further. If it is not possible to verify the NIN you have submitted, then you may need to visit an enrolment centre, in person. We will provide further information of the status of your NIN verification as soon as possible. Q: I can see my NIN on my phone after dialing *346#, will my line still be blocked ? A. All Customers are obligated to submit their NIN to their service provider; once the NIN you have submitted has been verified successfully with NIMC, your verified NIN will be linked with your SIM registration. According to the NCC directive, lines not linked with their NIN before 30th December 2020, will be blocked. Kindly dial *785# using the phone number you wish to link, enter your NIN and submit. Or, dial *785*Your NIN# from the phone number you wish to link. You can also download myMTN App and follow the NIN banner to submit your NIN details in the app. Kindly note that the NIN you submit to us is subject to further verification by NIMC. Q. Can I do the NIN registration in any MTN office? A. Kindly visit www.nimc.gov.ng for the list of enrolment centers. Q. Can MTN send staff to my office to do the linking for me? A. We have already created a self-service for you. You can easily link your number from the convenience of your location. Kindly download MyMTN App or dial *785# using the phone number you wish to link, enter your NIN and submit or dial *785*Your NIN# from the phone number you wish to link. Q: I have more than one phone number, how do I link them? A: Kindly dial *785# using the phone number you wish to link, enter your NIN and submit or dial *785*Your NIN# from the phone number you wish to link. You can also download MyMTN App to submit your NIN details. Please note that your ownership of the NIN you submit to us is subject to verification by NIMC. Q. If I try it on my line and I am not registered, will I be charged 20 naira? A. No please, an error message will pop up on your phone to indicate that the transaction was not successful Q: Can you help me link my other MTN number? A: Kindly dial *785# using the phone number you wish to link, enter your NIN and submit or dial *785*Your NIN# from the phone number you wish to link. You can also download MyMTN App to submit your NIN details. Please note that this is subject to verification by NIMC. Q: I get an error when I dial *346# does it work on all networks A: Yes, the USSD code works for all networks. However, if you have registered for a NIN and you keep getting an error message, please dial your service provider help line. If you are yet to register for NIN please visit any NIMC ECRs (Enrollment Centres) close to you to enroll or visit www.nimc.gov.ng for the list of all enrollment centers nationwide. Q. I have lost my NIN slip, how can I obtain another one? A. Sorry about the loss of your NIN slip, kindly visit any bank around you, pay a token of N500 through REMITA, provide your REMITA Teller to any ERC near you and request for a NIN slip print. Q: Will my line be blocked if my NIN is not captured? A: Yes. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed all telecommunications operators to block all lines not paired with NIN Number by December 30th 2020. Q: I was able to view my NIN number on my bank app, why is MTN charging me N20? A: *346# is currently a billable service offered by the National Identity Management Commission. An adviCe of charge, and a confirmatory notification will be sent to you upon dialing the code. The USSD code works for all networks. If the *346# NIMC service charges are waived in the future, we are sure NIMC will inform all users. Q: My SIM was registered with my voter card, and not national card. Am I going to be affected? A: This directive is to all citizens of Nigeria who are telecoms subscribers. Your NIN must be paired with your SIM Registration details. You can register at any NIMC ECRs (Enrollment Centres) close to you. Kindly visit www.nimc.gov.ng for the list of all enrollment centers nationwide. Q: How do I get notified when my NIN is ready after enrolment? A: The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) will communicate this to you after your enrollment. Q: Can I update my spouse NIN number? A: No, you cannot. Everybody is to enroll for their NIN individually. It is a personal Identity Number Q: Will my bank account be blocked if my line is not linked to NIN? A: No. Only SIM cards/phone lines that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN) will be blocked. Q. How can my relatives abroad get NIN? A: Please click https://www3.nimc.gov.ng/diaspora/ for details of diaspora enrollment 2 Likes 1 Share |

So, it is everyone using Phone that can go online to do the registration. What about those old men and women! Village men and women Those outside the country still using their lines to communicate home And now, you want to start blocking lines. 1 Like |

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given telecommunications operators in the country two weeks to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN). Failure to do so will lead to your line being blocked or disconnected by the 31st of December 2020. Below are few steps to link your phone number with your NIN; For MTN users, simply dial *785# and get it done in few seconds or Visit https://mtnonline.com/nim/ using your phone or computer Complete the NIN linking form by entering your name, phone number, NIN, and email address. Submit the form as soon as you’re done. Wait for feedback from the network. Airtel Users To link your NIN to your Airtel phone number, follow the steps below: 1. Dial *121*1# on the Airtel line you wish to link. 2. Type 1 for “NIN Capture” and send. 3. Enter your 11-digit NIN and send. Wait for the message confirming your submission. If you get an error, just wait for some time and try again. You can also visit https://www.airtel.com.ng/nin to have it done online. |
