Why we didn’t kill Katsina schoolboys’ abductors–Military

The Nigerian military on Saturday made some disclosures on how it carried out the rescue operation of the 344 boys kidnapped from their school in Kankara, Katsina State, on December 11.

The military disclosed that while kinetic and non-kinetic approaches were used to ensure that all the boys were rescued unhurt, there was resistance from the abductors who laid an ambush for the troops.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. John Enenche, and a former Director, Military Intelligence, Maj.Gen. Ahmed Jibrin (retd,), gave the accounts on Saturday when they featured on a special edition of the Nigerian Television Authority programme, “Good Morning Nigeria.”

history . Perejil Island crisis in 2002 between morocco and spain .

The Perejil Island crisis was a bloodless armed conflict between Spain and Morocco that took place on 11–20 July 2002. The incident took place over the small, uninhabited Perejil Island (250 m from moroccan coast) , when a squad of the Royal Moroccan Navy occupied it. After an exchange of declarations between both countries, the Spanish troops eventually evicted the Moroccan infantry
The Moroccan marines present on the island did not offer any resistance and rapidly surrendered.

.. And so it was. Two separate mass abduction of students within the same state; within the space of one week, yet none of the abductors was killed or arrested.
We have been told that the 'non-kinectic' strategy, whatever that means, prevents security operatives from engaging terrorists. Let's keep watching this season film

Is the answer to this question not obvious. One does not need to be an security analyst to see the ominous hand writing on the wall. One does not need to be an expert to know that we are playing a very dangerous game in this country.

We currently now have ethnic militia's - Amotekun, Civilian JTF, Eastern Security Network etc, by the time the whole country eventually goes belly up due to insecurity, we'll be forced to set up community and street militia's.

Mind you, those who consider themselves elites and the political class are buying citizenship in safer countries.

Nigeria kidnapping: Mahuta children rescued after gun battle

Police in Nigeria say they have rescued at least 84 schoolchildren who were abducted on Saturday.

They say the children were seized by gunmen as they returned home to Mahuta village after taking part in a religious ceremony.

The children were released following a gun battle between the abductors, security forces and local vigilantes.

It is the second mass kidnapping in Nigeria's Katsina state in eight days.

On Friday, 344 schoolboys who had been kidnapped from their boarding school in Kankara town a week beforehand were released.

In a statement following the latest abductions, Katsina state police said that at least 80 of those abducted were students of an Islamic school called Hizburrahim Islamiyya.

The force also said the armed kidnappers had also stolen 12 cows from nearby Danbaure village.

Police did not reveal more about the attackers' identities or their motives, referring to them only as "bandits".

It is a catch-all phrase in north-western Nigeria covering Fulani herdsmen, armed vigilante groups and even Islamist militants fleeing the insurgency in the north-east, says the BBC's Nduka Orjinmo in Lagos.

Most kidnappings by "bandits" are done for ransom. In the past some leaders of bandit groups, who engage in kidnapping and attacks on farming communities, have openly met governors and other state authorities to negotiate, our reporter adds.

Deadly clashes in north-western Nigeria have increased in recent years as warring farmers and herdsmen have employed armed vigilantes.

AFP news agency quotes a leader of a local vigilante group who pursued the attackers on Saturday as saying a total of 113 people had been abducted, a higher number than the 84 announced by police.

What Boko Haram?

To date we are not sure what and who we are dealing with in Katsina, Bandits, organised kidnappers, armed robbers, militant associated partners of Jihadists such as Boko Haram, Dylan Herdsmen, Miyetti Allah, etc, etc

We have descended to the abyss in our national security, that one thing is sure we really have no idea of the duplicity of criminal and deranged groups in conflict.

How did we get to this position

I wander why Nnamdi kanu can create his own party. The main aim and objective of the party should be the south east becoming an independent country.

I won't lie, Nnamdi kanu have a lot of followers on the south east.

IPOB make a lot of a aggressive noise and use threatening tactics to pursue thier agenda. And any Igbo who opposes them becomes an enemy. That makes you a target for thier model illiterate supporters.

I do not see up to 1% of the Igbo elite giving support to IPOB. Even the general populace is not completely supportive.

In addition huge amounts of assumptive nonsense. The South South is not part of Biafra, that Includes, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River. That makes what's left of the Biafra to Landlocked that in itself makes its socio-economic viability questionable.

These states with a duplicity of minority tribes, will not with their eyes open and agree to subject themselves to second class citizenship under a Igbo nation and have thier oil resources distributed to new masters from the East.

It reminds me of the misguided and disinformation led Brexit that has seen the UK leave the European union. Very much to great detriment to the UK.

Restructuring is not the problem of Nigeria but bad governance.

Who is discussing APC vs PDP shit with you? All my responses have being about military and security agencies and not president or political parties. We were simple comparing worse times and bad times.

I witnessed effects of three different bomb blast here in Abuja and I don't need anyone to tell me how security have improved in this corner of the world.

It's very clear that security agencies are better prepared to tackle crimes now than before. Soldiers are better motivated to fight, we see better results from operations carried out.

Back then kids get kidnapped and we take weeks to confirm if they were truly missing and a whole lot of unspeakable things that happened back then.

Everything happening in the north west is not new and we all knew it will come to this level and will even get worse. It's just simple logic/reasoning. The question is how is the military tackling it the daily occurrence? Is there improvement?

I don't give a fucck about APC VS PDP contest and am not a member of any political party.

Don't just try to use politics to claim points just defend what you wrote AGBAYA. and I repeat you sound fooliiish. STOP MISLEADING PEOPLE.

Compared to the years of "tactical manurvering" by the army while Bokoharam kept on capturing territories, we can actually say that the Bokoharam crisis has greatly improved. The terrorist shy away from direct confrontation with the military especially where there is a strong garrison and now focus on soft targets and ambush on military patrol teams. The last time they confronted the military in mongunno months ago. It may be because of the raining seasons Sha but still doesn't change the fact that the frequency of such large scale attacks have greatly reduced. It is shameful that we are being defensive though.
Kidnapping is same as before, the kidnappers just moved out of Kogi state to Kaduna and there is more extensive media coverage than before. But banditry has been treated with recklessness and it is far worse than it used to be.
