jjohndoe83: Nah so e dey always be. When I used to work downtown no black person was ever working in the offices. All we did was cleaners work , of maintenance. And I worked there for 2 years. We don dey here for too long not enough brothers working in the offices. I don't think I've ever even been interviewed by a black person. There are two types of Nigerians here, the one that went to school and are fresh as Bleep and the others. We don't see the latter enough 3 Likes |

AnthonyAk: Expenses should be relative to income. $2.5k is more than enough for rent and 'car' in Calgary. And anyway, I personally view having 'car' payments as not very smart except when income is quite high. 5 Likes |

AnthonyAk: To satisfy your curiosity, cost of living is affordable in Calgary. That's how. It may be hard to believe, but Canada is not made up of only Vancouver and GTA. 8 Likes |

AnthonyAk: So you cleaned for 2 years and you're coming here to shalaye for somebody that arrived 3 months ago and said he's doing 'basic' work, which could be call centre etc. Anyway when I visited Vancouver I noticed there were way less black people than in Calgary. Maybe that's why you have these views. The first time I had a conversation in my office about Nigerians, it was with 2 people who told me that their doctors are Nigerian and they love them. My head was just bursting. Nigerians are known to be very well educated and driven with good work ethics. 19 Likes |

19CannyMum: Lol cleaned for two years? Parents didn't spend all that money for me to touch a broom for work. I was working as a software developer , first job out of school, Right in the middle of the financial district. I've lived in this country long enough to know what's on ground. I've met some Nigerians where I'm surprised this person was even given visa. By God's grace my time here is coming to an end soon should be bk in naija full-time in the next couple years 6 Likes 1 Share |

AnthonyAk: You do not seem to understand that your journey is not same as others so you don't have to use the quote, "Parents didn't spend all that money for me to touch a broom for work.". Learn to be humble as the people won't remain same place forever. Merry Christmas! 30 Likes 2 Shares |

AnthonyAk:Unlike you some of us have paid our way every step of the way. No parents to help us out, death took them early. Since you don't know everyone's story or why they're where they are, and you've had the privilege of riding on your parents' hard work and dedication, you should enjoy your privilege in humility and consideration for others who do not have it better as you have it. Whilst no one can begrudge your privileges, it at least explains why you think you can stick your nose up and begin to dish out condescending and unsolicited advice any how. If you've had to pay your way solely, you would probably talk with more consideration and moderation, and maybe your views in life would be more measured and balanced. You need a reality check Sir, come down from this high horse you're riding, it leads thee no where. People who work as cleaners or do menial jobs are not less human than you our supremo software developer. They have it differently for reasons which may or may not be within their control. Wishing you happy holidays. Stay safe out there. 68 Likes 1 Share |

AnthonyAk: @AnthonyAK: I am very surprised and disturbed to read your claim that all you see black people do wherever you live in Canada are cleaner jobs and the like. While nothing wrong in doing those jobs but your view is limited to your circle. I will advise you to change your circle bro. Majority of the Nigerians I know here is Canada (not to talk of other blacks) are professionals like Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, Pharmacist, Accountants, Nurses, business owners etc. and working in their professions. Also, majority of us work for big companies and we hold leadership roles like manager, senior managers, directors and vice presidents in those organizations. In fact, there are a lot of such Nigerians on this Nairaland and active on this particular thread. I do get it that some of our people (limited number of them) are currently working survival jobs but nothing wrong with that because I know it is temporary. Many of us started like that (especially those of us in regulated professions like Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy etc.) before we got to where we are today. 30 Likes 4 Shares |

SixSigma1: In addition to the above: Note that nobody comes to Canada and plan to do survival job for the rest of their life, but people are just temporarily doing what they legally have to do before they get their dream job. All fingers are not equal. 16 Likes 4 Shares |

AnthonyAk: Did you really get what people up there are trying to pass across?? You're too high and have raised yourself so high that anyone doing menial jobs just to survive the first year or months or arrival look stupid and have no headway! you keep on spitting it to our face that you live in Vancouver. All high and mighty, bring yourself down and be humble. Because you had Parents that spoonfed and aided you till where you are today doesn't make others who struggle it out to get to where they are today a dumbass. Be grateful that Nigerians are making a headway for themselves and their children yet unborn instead of degrading everyone here This life is not what you think it is. Hope you know what the Bible talks about Pride??!! Once again like someone said up there. Change your Circle. Peace out 13 Likes |
