Dear Seun,
It's a great pleasure having this kind of forum that connects Nigerians and foreigners created by you. But can it be better?
Nairaland has always been my most visited website in a day, week, and month but I am now losing interest like others would be now.

Here are the updates this forum needs:
-Change Nairaland's theme to a modern one and not this 1999 version.
-Instead of forwarding messages to mail, create a message section where people can add friends and send messages directly on this forum.
-Update your mods and bots to understand spammy posts, scam post, an educational post, and a helping post.
-REDUCE YOUR ADS FEE:
If we are to compare and contrast what you charge to that of Facebook with over 2 billion visitors, yours is damn expensive with a lesser amount of views. Why?
-Run advert for Nairaland on google and the likes: Don't rely on self growth of this forum but rather boost your visibility. Spend on what make you earn!

I believe you won't consider this insulting, abusing or any other negative thought. If you work on these things your earnings will be tripled.

Nairalanders say to this ooo

Nairaland need re-branding...the outlook looks ancient... U can't upload videos... Even pics gan na protocol... To create topic...na server is Overwhelme...most times threads and topics of 2008 or 2012 will be displaying on current topics and you will think it's current topics until u click and u feel disappointed that it's old topic..

Anyway my opinion thou... Unto the next one...

Nairaland needs to be rebranded.

There are other creative ways of making money too.

Like sponsored threads on front page etc.

The current advert rates should be reviewed too.

Nairaland, should please add new features and do upgrade more frequently

If you don't improve you will be surprised one day, someone will bring a better platform than your own

Nice to see everyone contributing to this thread, it is no doubt that you have been so observant of the forum over the year.

Nairaland can be better, the theme can be made more attractive than this as well but there are many users who usually find new upgrade difficult to walk through thereby making them lose interest in the forum.

Authority sites like Quora, Reddit, and many dating sites/forums also received the same suggestions to upgrade their themes.

While it is true for Nairaland to tone down the ads fees, don't forget it ain't in the level of Facebook yet. Naija economic factors affect them also and I'm sure it's paying tax as well.

Don't also be deceived about the traffic or number of views you do see on most threads be it on the front page or where have you, the counts is contionous even if one person view same post for 10times, it will count it as a 10 times iteration. So in the real sense they might not be up to what you are seeing. That doesn't discard the fact that it has millions visitors anyways.

I am very sure the admin, moderators, UI/UX designers, programmers are aware that it is due for upgrade which they will consider going forward.

Don't forget the forum did have page counting that used to start from zero in the past, now that page zero has been removed.

Regarding the submission notification received after every new post or thread creation, that is as a result of the page speed to translate the query at that point in time, that is peculiar to the coding language chosen for the forum. It will definitely not be same if written in another code language.

On a final note, nothing lasts forever. We have had some social platforms in the past that shook the world such as 2go, BBM which have come and gone so nothing lasts for ever.

Facebook despite its billion users can not outrightly boast of that figure any more as people are migrating to other socials like Twitter, Tik-Tok, etc.

The digital space is large and open to anyone who wants to try his feet into it. This I'm sure Seun Osewa is aware too and as an investor he would have moved to other projects but still have to keep this forum as his long term babe.

Part of the reason for Nairaland’s success is its simplicity.

Your suggestions are welcome but this isn’t your site and it’s never your place to dictate to the owner.

Move on if you may, the numbers will keep increasing. Enough with the sense of entitlement please

It will be more simple using a Nice theme and adding a message section. What you're saying is like comparing Mazda 626 with G-Wagon.
Nairaland can also be like other popular forums.

This kind of thinking is why Nigeria is not developing like other countries in Africa while calling ourself GIANT of Africa.

It's as simple as backup and update.

Noted but haven’t you heard of vintage cars running on v8 engines? NL runs powerfully and doesn’t have to be flashy like you want it to be except you want to force your vision on the owner.

It’s this same drabness that attracted you to it in the first place.

I think we should respect the owner’s vision and let him follow his mind cos the threat of leaving is downright egotistical.

I’m pretty sure no one is preventing you from moving to other classy more functional sites

Speaking of analogies, it’s only in Nigeria you see poor men advising Dangote on entrepreneurship

I think once in a while, everything needs upgrade. All brands do it. An upgrade can be done without having to tamper with the simplicity. For example Nokia(the one without internet), they try to upgrade without having to tamper with the simplicity of the phone. Nairaland is loved but the points the OP highlighted is really really true and you will agree it needs to be worked on. If a brand does not upgrade, at some point it might fade out when a competitor emerges with more features.

Seun is clueless.
The most shocking thing I realized is you can modify another person's comment when quoting them! The implications are as terrifying as they are endless.

These armchair businessmen above me should leave Nairaland for seun and go create their own since they know so much about how to make a better online forum

Among all the suggestions already listed this is the only valid upgrade I think needs to be done now

I have always wanted to say this. It means someone else can "put into my mouth" what I didn't say. I know Seun will correct it sha at some point.

Yes, I've already seen some trolls use it to add efficacy to their work grin...well, I'd like to think of it as a glitch but to think that its been there for so long is what beats me...

It's sad the way you speak but I will resist the urge to talk harshly. Mr. Seun the owner of this forum might have seen this and I trust that he would work on it. I don't think you can keep your audience interested in you with the way you type words out of your mind like "MOVE IF YOU MAY."
Some of my bad experience on Nairaland:
1. I was reading a thread and I was on page 23 of 50 but I had to stop that day. The next day, I was trying to navigate to that page only finding myself clicking on pages before landing on that exact page. Why can't there be a navigate to page box at the bottom?
2. I tried contacting some people via direct mail on Nairaland but later found out that they don't use the mail again. I lost connection.
3. In case you did not see what am seeing for the first time, Virgo01 said you can modify what I just said by quoting.

I can't keep typing...
Quora was created 2009 i.e 4 years after Nairaland without changing theme but adding more features. Check Alexa ranking and feed your eyes.
Nairaland from it name is targeting Nigeria (I know). Google sef dey update their bot and algorithm everyday.

All I said was an advice for the Owner of this thread and not you! If you feel there is need to go against it, create your thread pointing to mine. Thankew!
