Why Is This So In The South East?? I Need Explanation

So today I decided to travel to Owerri from onitsha for a business meeting, the journey was meant to be a 1hr30min journey or less, but the check point for such short distance was sooo much!!

Like literally every 1km of the road has checkpoint, it's so bad that from a particular check point, you can basically see another check point ahead.

Ranging from the Army to the police to FRSC. Basically every force is on the road and all of them including the army were collecting bribe from the drivers. I actually felt bad for the drivers because it was too much. I felt really disgusted as well because I expected them to distinguish themselves but no they didn't.

I guess this is why the transport rate here is on the high side.

Now I've spent 4hrs on the road due to traffic induced by these forces from blockage of the road

Last week I came back from Abuja to Anambra and the check point were few across the north and I kept wondering.

Is there insurgency in the SE or is the crime rate high here or what exactly is the cause of this excess checkpoints / extortion points

Too bad it's too much and we have representatives not saying anything about those..... whenever I travel down east I intentionally do count those....from onitsha down to ABA it's just too much...

Even inside town they position themselves to extort motorists. Southeast is militarized to the teeth and we have those who claim to be close to the seat of power..what do they do with it? Look for the common man to oppress.

This is too too bad, upon the numerous check points, Eastern Security Network got form under their nose still they can't figure out how come they ESN get there weapons.

-Biafraland is an occupied territory by Nigerians and their forces. Today, we might not have an Ojukwu or a standing Army but one day we shall fight back through other means.

-Many of those armed robbers(Army, Police and FRSC) you saw on the road gave massive bribes in Abuja to be posted to our land of milk and honey. Those lazy fuckkers can’t survive without our money, neither can Nigerians.

That's the reality in the south east. South east is under occupation by the Nigeria forces and those who we elected have done nothing to stop the situation

The Eastern youths have to do something really radical before this stops. These checkpoints have been there since the end of the war in 1970! Sometimes the numbers reduce a little but once a dubious IGP comes in, they increase the numbers. Together with the terrible roads, these are worst symbols of oppression in the East... I grew up in the east thinking that check point at every pole on the road is the sure standard for securing lives and property.. Travelled to Kaduna during the Sharia riots and met just 2 check points! I mean a Kaduna in crises had just few check points, while a peaceful Anambra had hundreds! This must end! Every appeal made by both the former governors in the east and interest groups from the east to put an end to this is met with defiance from the federal government...

Infact under Mbadinuju in Anambra state, during the time he was having a running battle with Obasanjo and his cronnies from Anambra, the governor ordered the removal of the check points on state roads in his state. Guess what? The very next day at Awka, a heavily well manned police check point was mounted directly infront of the government house! I mean in front of the gate to the governors office! That shows you how adamantly evil the forces behind these check points are. There are reports,, that police commanders in the east are expected to remit certain amounts to their ogas from these practices. Many officers from other parts of the country actually bribe to be posted to the east because of the lucrative nature of this enterprise! It should stop! Folks should start looking for alternative ways of pressing home the demand for the total removal of these notorious police check points all over the east..

It is because igbos are rich so collecting small small on the road won't finish their money

All the roads in the SE are littered with check points from army to police to drugs, civil defence, man o war, I am even suspecting that scouts will soon join the list.

They are bastards and one day they will wipe be wiped out.

SE leaders and the Ohaneze group are grossly inefficient.

There is nothing they have been able to get for their people from the unitary central government.

The vacuum in leadership is what is making the youths join IPOB.

The northern leaders are more aggressive in ensuring their people get something from the unitary government.

For example they said attack on Boko is attack against the north and so you can see the members drive around Nigeria territory in conveys and take away hundreds of people and nobody would be arrested.

you have some check points in ilorin, getting to idofian you'll see another one, to Ajase IPO you will about 6 check points down to Offa you'll see 3 check points from offa to okuku (in Osun) 3 - 4 check points.

Osogbo to Ondo or Ibadan checkpoints plenty.
These are just federal road I haven't made mention of Okuku to ila orangun to Oke ila orangun, Osogbo to ilesha to Akure, all those Esa Oke, Erin Ijesha, Iwo etc

Their presence on the road will drive away criminals, the only thing wrong with their presence is the motorist extortion.

you are exaggerating, from Awka to Onitsha is just one check point at Ukpor junction, Onitsha to our boundary with Imo is three Checkpoints on normal day, it's because of Yuletide they increase the numbers of police and road safety officials

Onitsha-owerri isn't an exaggeration, I ply that route frequently and I can tell you that's its like that all year round with the exception of the EndSARS period where they were off the roads
