The GMD of NNPC and Nigeria's petroleum resources minister have both confirmed that motorists will spend less when running gas-powered vehicles. Read more!

It is no more news that the Federal Government has been pushing for the quick adoption of CNG/LPG as fuel to power vehicles in Nigeria rather than the regular petrol/diesel fuel. While still in the process of actualizing this idea, new reports claim that the federal government has recently inaugurated a special scheme for Autogas in FCT, Abuja. During the event, some of the Federal government delegates reportedly revealed that Nigerian motorists should expect to spend less when running gas-powered vehicles. The delegates explained that the cost of refilling petrol/diesel-powered vehicles has been found to be way higher than that of gas-powered vehicles.

The Federal Govt of Nigeria has given assurance that motorists will enjoy cheaper rates when running gas-powered vehicles
It should be noted that Mr Timipre Sylva, the petroleum resources minister as well as Mr Mele Kyari – the GMD of NNPC says they have no “real” figure to show how much savings Nigerian motorists should expect from running gas-powered vehicles. However, they seem certain from their findings that car owners and motorists in Nigeria will spend less on refuelling when they eventually convert their cars to run on gas rather than petrol or diesel.

On the bright side, recent press reports claim that Mr Timipre Sylva says himself and the petroleum resources ministry are researching the actual prices it will cost to run vehicles on CNG/LPG fuel in Nigeria. The reports also highlighted that 5 gas-powered buses were recently presented by Mr Timipre Sylva to the NLC (Nigeria Labour Congress) while promising to deliver a 100 more in due time.
While the Federal Government is busy pushing for quick adoption of LPG/CNG fuel for powering vehicles in Nigeria, some motorists are now worried about the “ridiculous” ₦250,000 of conversion.

Below is a press video that discusses the matters arising as regards the worries of Nigerian motorists about gas-powered vehicles.

What is ridiculous about the 250k cost of conversion? Has anybody bothered to find out the actual cost of the conversion kits and equipment?

The cheapest in the market is around 300 to 320 US dollars. By the time you include cost of shipping and clearing as well as logistics, how much do you think it will be sold for, in the open market??

Na wa for people!

You do not even know what you are talking about. Most of the taxi cabs and buses in Benin have been using CNG gas as fuel, for over 8 years.

Did any of them turn into a bomb? Stop repeating your ignorant comments, please!!

You don't even know what you are saying. Have you seen or driven a gas-fueled car before? The tank only occupies a small part of the boot, and there is still space for other things to be loaded inside there.

So stop talking like a myopic entity. Go and see all the vehicles that have been converted. There is still room in the boot, after the tank is installed.

Why should I spoonfeed you with info? Were you in Mars when PPPRA converted their official vehicles to run on Autogas, a few months ago? What about the buses presented to Labour Congress that are currently running on Autogas CNG since early this month? Or all the cars converted by NIPCO showcased in Benin years back?

Shebi you have a phone? Check all the info on Google and stop begging for info on the subject. Educate yourself.
