Why didn't you ever considered the applying for a lower course in college of medicine In UI or other schools then work hard and attain certain cgpa then transfer to mbbs in 200 level. Courses like physiology and other ones I can't remember, their students transfer to mbbs but it is always tricky because with high cgpa your department won't want to release you. This can be solved by trying to know people in both the mbbs department and the lesser course department you choose. I know like 4 guys who transferred from biochemistry to pharmacy, they are doing well with none having repeat. |

Electrical engineering is a great course. It's actually the best engineering course out there and I am glad you considered that and not something like mechanical or chemical engineering. Since you are still yet to get In opt in for computer science or computer engineering. As someone said try to do well and then write the GRE to move abroad. Even if you don't move abroad, a computer science degree pays very well even in Nigeria provided you have the required skills the market is looking for. As someone with a degree in computer science and accomplishing skills you stand to get a chance for a work visa from Nigeria. This is the age of IT. |

Hannania:are there any chances for electrical engineer with 4 point but not 4,5 cgpa in terms of securing full funded scholarship or job. |
Re: . by Nobody: 12:18pm On Dec 28, 2020 |
I'm almost in the same situation as you but the difference is that I'm already an engineering student and I'm younger.I decided to attempt the utme again in my first year |
Re: . by Hannania(m): 12:53pm On Dec 28, 2020 |
NDSMELODY:4.0 would equate to around 3.45-3.5/4.0 scale. Its enough to get you full funding for even a direct PHD. |
Re: . by Hannania(m): 1:01pm On Dec 28, 2020 |
atom080:Says who? I had to reject one for personal reasons, that would have been four. Foreign scholarships are available in thousands. You have to do a lot of research. Join trends on Nairaland for USA, Germany, UK, EtC to get info that will give you a head start. PS: The easiest and very assuring scholarships with 80-100% funding are school and department specific scholarships abroad, which are not well known and makes them less competitive. You need to do alot of research if you're serious about it 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: . by Karlifate: 5:07pm On Dec 28, 2020 |
atom080, I've gone through your post. Don't give up on your passion for Electrical Engineering, you won't regret it. What you need now is to sit down & ponder what you've been doing wrong repeatedly. Then, change your approach & you'll surely achieve your goal(s). Thank me in few years to come. P.S. - Make friends with the right people in your journey, they'll be of great benefit to you in the long run. 1 Like |

atom080:Well, Winning local scholarships in Nigeria has to do with three things. 1. Grace(Timing) 2. Intelligence(Not Just brilliance. most aptitude test measure your IQ, that's why a person with firstclass can miss and a lot of second class upper sometimes get awarded.) 3. Follow instructions keenly. Bonus: Depending on scholarships, your state of origin comes into place also but most are on merit. I got the following: NNPC/Total PTDF prefer not to say the last. |
Re: . by Hannania(m): 5:38pm On Dec 28, 2020 |
50centt:Firstly, nice CGPA you've got. your chances of getting full funding is on par with a person with firstclass(Though firstclass Do wonders). don't let negativity flow on you. your CGPA should equate to around 3.55-3.65 on a 4.0 scale. with that, you can run a direct PHD in US(if you did a good job in your final year project not copy and paste). below i'll list steps and were to research. remember, it's a DIY(Do It Yourself) if you're serious. 1. Erasmus Modulus scholarships: you get a chance for full funding in Europe. studying in two or three universities and countries across Europe, and obtaining masters degree in all the universities. everything is paid for including your flight ticket. 2. USA: write the GRE(Graduate Record Examinations) it's over 340. get from 320-340, and with your CGPA you're sure to get 80-100% scholarships in form TA or GA (Teaching or Graduate Assistantship) 3. Research extensively on countries of interest, go to their university portal and see if they have school or country specific scholarships E.g Holland, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Czech, Hong kong, China ETC You need to write English Language test(TOEFL or IELTS) PS: Go to education and travel section here on Nairaland, and see processes of people with same or similar profile that have done what you're looking forward to do. Good luck |

Re: . by Hannania(m): 5:48pm On Dec 28, 2020 |
NDSMELODY:A friend of mine graduated last year, and Left Nigeria this December to USA on a fully funded PHD with just his BSC. note, He didn't even enroll for NYSC. He got the funding without writing any exams, but such schools and departments are not much. Besides, your over all profile is what graduate schools look that. Things like recommendation letters from your profs(Hope you had a good relationship with them) SOP(Statement of Purpose) and CGPA. So its very possible |

Hannania:Good day boss, I'm aspiring for EEE in one of south west federal university via DE, Since Direct Entry aspirant are starting from part 2 and I learnt that most scholarship is always during first semester 200level, how can one get a local scholarship? |
Re: . by Hannania(m): 8:08am On Dec 29, 2020 |
kolad59:Hello, you can still win quite a few handsomely. E.g MTN - For 300l (worth 200k yearly) FSB - for 200l and above (worth 250k yearly) Septlat - For all levels (worth 100k) PTDF - for two or 300l depending on how competitive your state is. Its every two years, application were meant to be this year, but Covid-19 prevented it. So definitely next year, which you can apply with your DE result (worth 400k + laptop and your school fee) Good luck 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: . by sreamsense: 11:36am On Dec 29, 2020 |
atom080:Op, please, calm down, to me you still look confused. If you believe in God, pray about your choice in life or listen to your inner man on your true passion. All these reasons you are nuturing in your minds about reasons for choosing one course over another are just mere speculations of a new man just experiencing life. If hospitals or medicine jobs are many as you thought, all qualify doctors will be employed by now. No one will work in banks, no one will venture into their own businesses after joblessness or getting low pay jobs from private hospitals. Right from seeking housemanship, you will begin to understand reality of life. While medicine is good, try to have right motive and passion before you venture into it so you can contribute your quota to its advancement as you earn a living through it; and not just reasons you have at moment that can fade away as reality of live bite harder. It is your inexperience that is killing you, must you go to UI before you can be a doctor? Must everybody go to UI before being called doctor? As big as Nigeria is, you meant if somebody studies medicine from Bayero University Kano, UNN, LASU, ABU, they are not doctors? Keep fooling yourself! You could have entered medicine if you choosed medicine from another school, but your fantasies about life is proving you wrong before your own eyes but you seem not to understand. Genius can be found or come from anywhere irrespective of weather the school is popular or not. How best or great you will become as a medical doctor depends much on your efforts irrespective of school you finish from? Look everywhere around you, products of different schools can be found anywhere, you don't need to be from UI, once you are loaded with great skills in your areas, you will be needed. UI takes few undergraduates for admission compare to other federal universities, it is natural you should expect their cut off marks to be higher couple with its being first university with catchment area thrown open. My candid advice to you is to choose another university with low cutoff for medicine; and develop yourself along to become great doctor and in the future if you so like UI, go there for your higher programme. Having said that, you are still holding wrong reasons for venturing into engineering, engineering can not be choosen as a second choice because brilliant people like you are many in that fields, but also have passions and better dreams than yours at moment. Engineering seems harder because of advance mathematics; you can't compare it's cut off with medicine because engineering is another authority/ field on its own. Remember you do mathematics in jamb and not biology, mathematics seems more difficult to pass and all your post utme assessment will be based on mathematics and tougher physics than in medicine. Beside that, engineering has more departments under it that can accommodate more students for admission than you have for medicine where you can be accommodated in term of admission quota system; so never equate your higher score because of biology in medicine with lower score in mathematics for engineering to interprete your academic brilliance that may make you underate engineering, you maybe shocked beyond your expectation. If you choose engineering in UI, you may still have worse problem of cuttoff than you have in medicine, because you will be competing with more brilliant brains in mathematics and best from their secondary schools as well. Engineering has nothing to do with age limit as your believe. Old men and young men are in engineering; engineering is the head of engineering family. Mostly, you delegate jobs to younger staffs: artisans, technicians, technologists etc, or do you think engineer will be the one clumping pole or dreging gutters? Before you become chief engineer, you act as consultants and many don't even wait till then before they have companies of their owns. So, issue of age limit here is just a mere fantasies as a result of your inexperience. In a nut cell, pray about your choice and consider moving to another school if God hints you. Abraham success in the Bible was not tied to his own 'UI' then, but rather where God promised to bless him. There are poor doctors that finished from UI today; and there are rich doctors that finished from UI while it is similar fate for others that finished from other medical schools aside UI. So, success is not tied to where one finishes, let God direct your path now so you can hold him responsible later. But believe me, God will never miscalculate, His things are always perfect and last if ONLY you trust in Him alone! 5 Likes |

@ streamsense . i'm really grateful for your advice. but first, i don't have the mentality of "U.I only". i've stated the reason why i've not chosen other uni's in my post. . but well said, i was very ignorant then. talking abt my intelligent, i cant boast much. all basic sciences(including maths/further maths/bio) are my thing. . but the very past is gone. i want to create my future yet, that depends on my decision now. . i'm open to all experienced advice. "thank you" |

@ hannania . why do you always recommend c/c++ programming language, why not python or java?? |
Re: . by Hannania(m): 1:07pm On Feb 06, 2021 |
atom080:Every Programming language has its pros and cons depending on the use cases. for Engineering students, we deal more with softwares that are machine specific, and in that regards, C/C++ are the best, fastest and most commonly used. if you're going into Data centric filed, then this anguages are bad choices. python and R are kings there. personally, I have proficiency in C/C++ and Python (Scripting and Automation) as my field is in the Electrical/Computer Engineering domain. so know the language that best suites your filed. |
