how often do both need changing though? I genuinely don't know with the mondeo? Like you said frequency matters. Let's use dru's favorite example oil. You can use the 5k oil for a lot of these cars and change every 3 months or 2-3,000 miles or you can spend 17-27k on synthetic extended mileage for 6 months or 10,000 miles. Liquid cash may make option one more appealing until you consider certain things. It's not just about the cost of the parts.

For the sake of simplicity let's use miles and assume you do your own oil changes so no labor.

In 10,000 miles on option one syn blend:
5k oil *5
1-1.5k oil filter *5
Min 2k LOST TRIPS DURING OIL CHANGES *5
25k + 5-7.5k + 10k = 40-47k on maintenance

On option two extended mileage synthetic mobil, Pennzoil, castrol, etc
17-27k oil *1
2-3.5k filter *1
Min 2k lost during oil change *1
17-27k + 2-3.5k + 2k = 21-32.5k on maintenance

Same applies to any repair you're doing. frequency of repair is a killer for you guys. there is a formula to calculate the actual cost of each repair. For Rad Auto, for every $1 we lose in warranty work or mistake correction, we have to make $5 to avoid losing money. One would have to do the math for e-hailing.

TLDR, cost of parts alone isn't cost of maintenance. Some cars were designed by Satan himself and something that should take 20 minutes will take 4 hours. So you have to factor in costs of parts, amount of time repairs take, lost business during that time and how often the part breaks into maintenance costs. Your time is extremely valuable too!.

How often you change the mondeo hub I doubt is the same as the Corolla. Not saying it's bad, just saying like I always do to know all the caveats. I know little about the mondeo which is why I didn't say anything about it.

On a serious note though, I agree one should look for cheap cars to maximize returns but in my opinion/experience those cars are cheap up front but expensive down the road (A). The converse is expensive upfront but cheap down the road (B). The perfect car is in the middle C. None is necessarily bad and may suite different people. Personally if I drive for a living I want a B or C (parts availability is never a problem if you hardly ever need them wink.

Bear in mind I don't know street value of a lot of these in Nigeria so I'm going off street value in the US and through the eyes of mechanics. Adjust perception accordingly. Some of the As might be Ds in Nigeria (expensive upfront AND down the road).

Considerations are ruggedness, fuel efficiency, comfort and holistic cost of spare parts maintenance (factoring in costs of parts, amount of time repairs take, lost business during that time and how often the parts break).

A Volkswagen Jetta 1.8L
C Nissan Sentra 2.0L
A Hyundai Accent 1.6L
A Kia Rio 1.6L
C Honda city 1.3L
A Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6L
A Ford Focus 1.6L
A Hyundai xcent 1.3L
B Hyundai Elantra 1.6/2.0L

EDIT: let me add to the list
B Toyota Corolla
C Honda Civic
B Honda Accord
C toyota matrix
C toyota echo
C TOYOTA PRIUS
B Subaru Impreza
C Nissan versa
B/C literally any small Volvo

Will add as I think of more. Any one care to share their experiences/thoughts on some of these particularly the less popular ones?

Ford Mondeo is marketed in Europe and it is called Ford Fusion in the USA. Same car with different name...

According to online reviews.. Fusion is actually a good car ,with excellent fuel mileage and strong.. Truth to be told the old model are ugly a*s f#ck .. Newer generation has more of a sporty look ...Ford cars lacks creativity at times.......

What you guys are forgetting is the goal is to HAVE 800k in the bank. If you are saving 60k for winter then do you really have 800k or 740k? Also, whoever posts should account for their expenses that period. At the very least fuel, maintenance, sacrifices to keep the SARs, LAWMA and other demons at bay and data records should be posted as they are expenses needed for the job. Food is not a primary business expense and tastes vary so that can be excluded.

Not keeping track of expenses is not an excuse and terrible business practice. How do you know what you make if you don't keep track of spending? You should have a log book where you keep track. No business ever grows without knowing where its income goes to the kobo. Take care of the kobos and the Nairas will mind themselves. Business 101.

In conclusion, now that dru is in, I know someone will definitely get paid 10k [s]so I join dru to match 10k IF poster also accounts for their expenses. I will also throw in two synthetic oil changes.[/s]
AMENDED IN LATER POST TO 50K WITH T&C
SHOW US YOUR BUSINESS EXPENSES!
Mama pls kindly include a deadline for submission of this end of year report... 50k bonus will do the magic for my absence(house rent) instead of stressing myself too much. I can only count on this 50k from you, 10k from kodred, 10k from dru23 and one 2k from... Forgotten the moniker that promised that... That's a whooping sum of 72k...

Guys... This contest is getting dirty menh... GAZZUZZ !!! That guy self fit come up with the highest bidder oooh. grin

I'm going to amend my previous offer.

Post your bank statement from Nov1-Dec31 along with your dashboard. Drivers know what the accounts that deposit from all the e-hailing companies are right? We take those payments, add any cash payments, subtract fuel and data. If it is 800k, I will give N50,000. I will also make you a P&L statement that might give additional information on how to operate more efficiently.
EDIT: I forgot sacrifices to keep the SARs, LAWMA and other demons at bay as part of necessary business expenses.

Sound fair?
Bank statement? You know I can't do that na haba! Though, most of my fuel expenses are done via my wife's MasterCard... I can't post her account details here and also... I don't think I can post my account details...

Is honda accord really in category B? I think it should be C. Accord, EOD & DC are cheap when compared to the Corolla of same year. A friend of mine bought naija used EOD for 650k and still uses it till date. Drives Ife to Lagos frequently. I think accord should be C, like civic.

Unless I'm not understanding your analogy

But you will not envy them when it is time to replace the hybrid battery grin but the Prius rarely have issues

Since they are mostly getting the cars brand new, they will have saved more than the cost of hybrid lbattery from the fuel, unlike in Nigeria when the hybrid battery might be on its last month's before being shipped.
