Lagos State should be locked down with immediate effect, so that they will not infect the whole country with their Covid-20 Abi Covid-21 virus

...And what proof do you have that we haven't gotten close to that number of infected/carrier cases?!!

You think infected cases are only those who come down with severe symptoms?!! Are you testing anywhere close to the capacity of America and Europe?!!

Please, don't flatter yourself. We contained nothing, are containing nothing, and will never be able to contain a damn thing... Forget the media grandstanding of NCDC. They have to justify their high wages.

Ask yourself why state governors reneged on initial banning of crossover services... They knew the charade won't hold.

A total shutdown didn't achieve anything with regards to containment of spread, as it was not adhered to by almost all Nigerians. It only worsened the financial health of most Nigerians... It went on to set the stage for Endsars crisis. Another one will be simply catastrophic.

It's quite funny that it's largely the very affluent and privileged few that are calling for widespread restrictions and even lockdown. grin

Your fear mongering will cost us even far more!!! Fact!!!
Speak sense to her abeg.
Does she really believe that the lockdown achieved anything other than stalling economic activities?
So some would really go by NCDC figures as the reality of covid-19 in Nigeria?
Imagine claiming that the lockdown is what prevented Nigeria from recording 20m cases. Nigeria is yet to record 20m cases because we are yet to test 0.5% of our population. And someone wants me to take NCDC and their grandstanding seriously.
Of course they have to play to the gallery to justify their pay.
According to the fear mongers, the whole of last year wasn't enough for covid to devastate Nigeria like we saw all over the world.
Our own is warming up for 2021....SMH.

I stopped looking at this NCDC update. I decided to look today and we haven't hit 100,000 cases.

Covid-19 is real quite alright but is over hyped in Nigeria.
Do we have to copy anything the western world does?
Since we ain't dying on the streets the way the west predicted why not re-strategize and do something unique.

Because the west started shouting 2nd wave, Nigeria started shouting too....
Before you know they will lockdown everywhere like idiots.

Okay, let's say we have a 2nd wave, why is our borders still open.

This government is very stupid!

Oya lock border etal, they couldn't.

My own be say make them no lockdown anywhere oh.... Subjecting people to more hardship.

Like seriously I dunno why she's panicking.
She won't talk like this if she was someone who earns her daily bread from hustling outside or if she was an undergraduate student.

Their fear mongering tactic is getting lamer and more silly by the day... It's like watching a poorly scripted stage drama.

Even the England with the so called new strain, most young people are against lockdown... Football association there has refused certain calls to temporarily halt the season... Same thing in parts of the developed world.

Many are beginning to advocate that we all learn to live with the damn bug, instead of going into another retrogressive and counterproductive panic mode.

I was irritated by some old well fed dame in the mall days back, talking about a coming lockdown in Nigeria... I was like why are these over privileged people constantly harping on about lockdown?!! All because it is only gonna be a mere inconvenience to them without a single regard for the teeming impoverished around them...

Who do they think will secure their lives if the hungry and deprived go on rampage?!!... Some Nigerians are just gullible, selfish, and unreasonable!

Some of these people are just insensitive...

It is this same insensitivity and selfishness that brought about the Endsars crisis. Now, they want to plunge the nation into another one just because of the nonsense drama CNN is churning out daily.

I know the greedy government won't be so stupid to yield to these calls for lockdown... Except I'm underestimating how dumb and clueless they are.

Angelfrost, I quite agree with your position that another lockdown will be economically counter productive and that the NCDC/taskforce efforts have done little to contain the spread of the virus. However, you have not stated the way forward in managing the health situation. Surely it cannot be just to leave everything to go on unchecked as that will be grossly irresponsible of the Government.

Thank you for your response....

Firstly, there is no "health situation". Please, don't be fooled by these media antics. They are all down to eye service.

There is a pandemic (I can never deny or play this down)... So, the way forward is simple and outlined below:

1. Quit spreading fear and panic. It won't work on the teeming majority. Rather intensively preach, teach and sensitize the masses on preventive guidelines (especially the grassroot).

2. Put firm restrictions on air travel in and out to highly endemic nations (England being top of the current pile). This is not as difficult as you might have been led to think, it's all politics to your leaders... This also ought to have been in place long before now, and even prior to Number 1 above.

3. Strictly and unwaveringly compel all incoming travellers to be tested and retested (if already tested abroad), observe monitored self isolation for the globally accepted time frame before being allowed into general population... There ought to be no exceptions to this.

4. Number 3 above should and must be applied to all land and water entry borders as well... Anyone finding this impossible to comply with should stay the fvck away from Nigeria... No exceptions too.

5. Be firmer in enforcing preventive guidelines among citizenry at federal and state levels.

With the above in place, why on earth would there be a need to lock any state or people down?!! There would be absolutely no necessity to punish the economy and impoverish the people... This is what smart nations are already doing... It's just commonsense!!!

If I were a governor, I would never lock down my state for any silly reason... Governors joining the international bandwagon are either being wicked, selfish, or crooked!!!

We are an independent and sovereign nation. Let us act like one for a change!!! Copying nations to lock down when you can never be close to them economically smacks of serious stupidity!!!

Makes sense. I agree wholeheartedly. Even developed nations deeply ravaged by the virus are being wary of lockdowns at the moment. Thanks.
