Pinnick hints at Turkish Cup for Super Falcons, applaud Aisha Falode

President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Melvin Pinnick has hinted that the Super Falcons might take part in the 2021 Turkish Cup.

Pinnick said this in a monitored interview on Television Continental (TVC).

“Super Falcons remain the top-ranked country in Africa. They could not play this year but we are working towards organising friendly matches for them in 2021. One of the tournaments that we are looking forward to is the Turkish Cup next year.” He told Promise Efoge.

Super Falcons finished as the top-ranked African country in 2020 without kicking a ball after the December rankings were released by FIFA as they ended the year in the 37th position.

– Cyprus Cup 2021 (15-25 February 2021)

Amaju Pinnick also praised the Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Ms. Aisha Falode for blazing the trail in starting the 2021 NWFL Premiership season ahead of their male counterparts (NPFL).

He said: “We are proud of Aisha Falode for making that bold step in starting the women’s league this year ahead of the men’s league. She is doing a wonderful job with the league.”

2021 NWFL Premiership season kicked off on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, and is presently on Christmas/New Year break after Week three games.

The league will resume on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, with week four games.

Head coach of the Nigeria women's team Randy Waldrum says he is 'extremely excited' over the Nigeria Football Federation's approval of his side's participation in the 2021 Turkish Women's Cup.

His reaction is coming hours after the endorsement of the Super Falcons' tour of
Turkey in February and two friendlies against
Morocco days later by the NFF executive board on Tuesday.
Before Waldrum's appointment in October, the African champions have not played a match in 14 months, with their last the 1-1 draw against Cote d'Ivoire in the 2020 Olympic qualifier in Lagos.

On receiving news of the approved tours, the American tactician thanked the Amaju Pinnick-led board, while stressing that the year 2021 would be crucial in the team's quest for success.
"I’m extremely excited about this news and very happy for our players," Waldrum told Goal.
"I’m very appreciative of the NFF and Executive Committee for approving these vitally important events. I think this calendar year 2021 is vital to our development before qualification begins."
The Turkish invitational which enters its fourth edition in 2021 will feature Nigeria for the first time after a late withdrawal in 2018.
Despite the possibility of meeting low-profile women's teams, the 64-year-old insisted keeping his team active is of utmost importance for him to build a formidable side.

"I haven’t seen who is at the Turkish tournament so I can’t say," he continued.
"We need to be active with games and camps this year as it takes time to develop an understanding of how we want to play and playing together as a unit."
The camps are likely to see the return of some top players, including Desire Oparanozie and Rita Chikwelu to the team's fold since their appearances at the 2019 Women's World Cup in France .
On what his roster could look like ahead of February's tours, the former Trinidad and Tobago coach provided insight into his plans, while craving for more camping opportunities during the year.
"I certainly want to see the Women's World Cup players but also want to see some fresh local-based players as well," Waldrum disclosed.
"It's also great to know the Nigerian league is on. I surely can’t wait to watch and see the level of the women's league!
"That’s why it’s important to have as many camps as possible. We need to use those times to evaluate. It's absolutely great opportunities for those players in the domestic league and others.
"I expect the players to come in with a good fitness level and that’s why I sent them a program I prepared.
"Those playing internationally will most likely be at a pretty good level but those that have not been active needs to do the programs provided."
Waldrum is tasked to lead the Super Falcons through two major campaigns, the 2022 African Women's Cup of Nations which double as the qualifying event for the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Madrid CFF defender Chidinma Okeke was substituted after 25 minutes in Saturday’s La Liga match against FC Barcelona on the 26th of October 2019... That was the last game she played before returning to action on the 19th of December 2020

So tell me with 13minutes game time in 2020 how was she supposed to make the provisional list ahead of any of the above listed defenders??..

IFFHS really need to prove to us how Okeke made their 2020 Africa Best 11 of the year.

If we're truly going to go with their Performance and number of game time from late 2019/January 2020 to December 2020 at Least 5 of the player's listed by IFFHS isn't supposed to make the provisional squad not to talk of the Best 11

Rita Chikwelu is one of the most Fittest and strongest player Superfalcons have ever produce in the Midfield... Her major problem now is pace. She's isn't as fast(the pace is no longer there) as before due to her age.. But in terms of fitness Chikwelu is top notch..

The chikwelu I watched at the last AFCON was not fit. she was too slow and sluggish. Anyway, you may be right.

Slow yes, age is Catching up with her already 33yr this year, If you watch Chikwelu play from 2006 to 2016 you would know what I'm talking about... But the energy and experience she brings to the team is still needed, her performance at the World Cup was far better than that of the AWCON...

Play Chikwelu Defensively in the Midfield and allow Ayinde Centrally/Box-to-Box then Okobi behind the Strikers you would enjoy their Football ... But Ayinde as a DM to me is a No No..

Ayinde played DM this past Season for her club though and eventually became the club player of the season.. and also made the league team of the week on two occasions..

We already have a natural Defensive Midfielder, Christy Ucheibe of Benfica SL who's developing fast... One good thing is that she can play multiple positions too..

Chikwelu, Ayinde, Okobi is still the best right now, Ucheibe, Igbinovia and Chinaza Uchendu can come in for each of them as they tire out... They're like to like.

we still have Youngster like Peace Efih, Folashade Ijamilusi, Bashirat Amoo, Joy Bokiri.

Ajibade can also be utilized as an Attacking Midfielder but she isn't like Uchendu who's a replica of Okobi in the middle.. I would rather prefer her in either of the flank
