NPFL: Kwara United Pip Plateau Away; MFM Stop Warri Wolves

Former Champions Plateau United started the new season on disappointing note going down to a 2-0 home defeat against Kwara United at the New Jos Stadium, reports Completesports.com.

Jide Fatokun directed his header into the net from close range in the 62nd minute after the home team failed to clear their lines.

Five minutes later, Michael Ohanu headed home the second goal from a Kabir Balogun’s assist.


At the Agege Stadium, MFM defeated Warri Wolves 2-1 in a thrilling contest.

MFM took the lead in the eight minute through Ebenezer Odeyemi, while Muyiwa Balogun got the second in the 23rd minute.

The visitors pulled a goal back four minutes later with John Paul Chinedu directing Ihuarulam’s cross into the net.

Kano Pillars held their hosts Adamawa United to a 1-1 draw in another matchday one contest

Rabiu Ali put Kano Pillars ahead with a sublime finish In the 13th minute.

Adamawa United fought back with Isa Garba getting the equaliser 15 minutes from time.

In Lafia, Nasarawa United rallied back from a goal down to beat Wikki Tourists 2-1.

Jigawa Golden Stars also beat Sunshine Stars 1-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

Stone Onukwube got the winning goal 12 minutes from time after he was teed up Musa Lala.

The 2020/21 NPFL opener against Abia Warriors has been shifted to Tuesday December 29.

The Abia derby, originally scheduled for Monday December 28, was moved by twenty-four hours for broadcast reasons.

VENUE & TIME
The fixture will come off at the Enyimba Stadium at 4pm. It will be the first NPFL fixture to be played at the venue since the 3-0 victory against Sunshine Stars on March 15.

COVERAGE
Although spectators won’t be allowed into the venue in observance of Covid-19 protocols, fans can enjoy live coverage of the game on the NPFL.tv app and on NTA.

NPFL: Rivers United go top with away win over Abia Warriors
Fortune Omoniwari was the goal scorer again.

High-flying Rivers United have gone top on the Nigeria Professional Football League table following their 1-0 away win over Abia Warriors on Saturday.

This is the second away win in the new NPFL season after Kwara United set the tone with the victory in Jos over Plateau United on matchday 1.

The 20th minute goal scored by Fortune Omoniwari was enough to give Rivers United their second win in as many games in the new league season.

Omoniwari showed class yet again when he collected a fine pass and placed the ball into the bottom right corner beyond the outstretched hands of Abia Warriors‘ Ojo Olorunleke to score what was the winning goal.

Stanley Eguma’s men had started the season with a lone goal win over Rangers International before going on to record an identical win over Abia Warriors in Saturday’s tie.

In the same vien, Rivers United also ended Saturday’s game against Abia Warriors with 10 men same way they went a man down in the game against Rangers.

This time Nelson Esor was the culprit as he was sent off in 73rd minute for a second bookable offence after a poorly timed tackle

The Caf Confederation Cup campaigners who now have six points from two games would now shift thier focus to their continental assignment against Bloemfontein Celtics.

The Pride of Rivers have a massive 2-0 advantage from the first leg played in South Africa.

NPFL: Rivers United Extend Unbeaten Run; Rangers, Dakkada Win Away

Rivers United maintained their perfect start to the season following an emphatic 3-0 win against Kwara United in Port Harcourt on Sunday, reports Completesports.com.

Towering centre-back Ifeanyi Anaemena opened scoring for the hosts in the 32nd minute, while Godwin Aguda added the second a minute later.

Chika Godwin scored the third goal from the spot on 90 minutes.


Plateau United recorded their first win of the campaign after a 3-0 win against Heartland at the New Jos Stadium.

Muhammadu Zulkifili, Amos Gyang and Jesse Akila scored the goals for Abdu Makaiba’s men.

Heartland are without a win in three league games this season.

Lobi Stars also recorded another big win at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi, thrashing Warri Wolves 3-0.

Ossy Martins put Lobi Stars ahead in the first minute, with Mathias Samuel and Chinonso Okonkwo adding the second and third goal in the 60th and 90th minutes respectively.

Former champions Enugu Rangers beat Jigawa Golden Stars 1-0 away at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

Israel Abia scored the decisive goal 11 minutes from time.

Dakkada also beat FC IfeanyiUbah 1-0 away with Nnamdi Mejuobi netting the winner a minute before the half hour mark.

In the South West Derby, MFM beat Sunshine Stars 1-0 in a keenly contested tie at the Agege Stadium.

Dennis Obasi scored the winning goal in the seventh minute.

Nabil Yarou was on target in the 24th minute as Enyimba narrowly beat Wikki Tourists 1-0 in Aba.

At the Lafia Township Stadium, Nasarawa United and Kano Pillars battled to a 1-1 draw.

Substitute Nyima Nwagua put Pillars ahead three minutes after the break, while Adamu Hassan equalised for the home team seven minutes from time.
