Spy360:

Why is Torriera not part of Arteta's plans despite being a good player?

The answer boils down to the player type and skill set.

Torriera is a destroyer type of DM, his strength is on tracking the ball and interceptions.

But that's not the midfielder Arteta wants, he wants a distributor, one who can pick the ball from deep and pass it until it gets to the final third. A possession based player. This is where Elneny fits in.

Conclusion :
Unless Arteta changes his tactical plan, Torriera is not coming back except he adapts.

Elneny like Ceballos and Xhaka will remain integral to Arteta's plans until we get better options.
The torreira from first season with us is a good destroyer and can also transition ball forward. Maybe my eyes is deceiving me then, but torreira I was watching in arsenal is good with the ball, can progress ball forward and can pass. No wonder he was one of our best player during his first season
Where Emery killed everything was making torreira play an "Am" role or advanced role in the 2nd season.

Maybe you can talk of height, that's the reason Arteta doesn't rate torreira (some coaches are like that), but in terms of ball progression, passes, forward movement and defence, torreira beats elneny hands down. And if elneny can see spot in the squad, then I don't know why torreira can't lipsrsealed

In Game of Thrones, Bran asked his father why if the man that deserted because he saw white walkers was lying. "A mad man sees what he sees" Ned replied.

I could say you are wrong, but "mad man sees what he sees".

That season Emery preferred Torriera for the same reasons Arteta prefers Elneny. These are two different types of players with different qualities. If Arteta decides to have a sitting DM then Torriera is the player of choice. But Arteta wants someone who can receive the ball from the goalie and transition it till gets to the opposition box. In that respect, Elneny is better. We have seen this countless times, no need to argue.

Hmmmm? grin

Add your voice...

Willock and Nelson plus cash for Buendia
I haven't seen much of Buendia, but if he is fast, strong, talented and fearless, I'll do the business straight up.

Willock and Nelson aren't as exciting as the oxlade,Iwobi and Gnabry of those days.

I don't know why you don't rate Nketiah. Not that I am against swapping.

It's OK to swap excess players to get what we want, we can even add cash. But swapping two players of high prospects for one is foolish business, unless we are sure that one will turn to KDB the moment his feet touch Emirates.
I don't also buy into that swapping mode of transfer arsenal is about to employ. But since we need to clear out some players and demands are not coming , we should just swap them. Na arsenal get their headache sha

lol... Saka is ready, he feels also now that ESR is ready and both are also same age if not junior to Nelson. Maturity levels isn't age bros.

If he feels it's loan to a smaller club that will make him ready, then fine

Julian Brandt... German.... Dortmund... 35m
Emi Buendia... Argentine... Norwich... 40m

Choices Arsenal has to make.
Brandt? we all see how Havertz is currently performing. That transfer is scary o TBH grin

There are not many better creative players out there in England and Europe than Buendia. This is why Arsenal wants him.

Julian Brandt no strong o.
He is technically more superior than Buendia. Strength will come, besides such AM roles don't require much strength.

You eh!

How can you conclude, when you used championship stats for Buendia. Anyway, you are right. I think the major reason is because he scores goals as a midfielder.

Look well, one of the stats is for when Norwich was in EPL last season. Buendia is consistent. Championship or EPL.

I don't know much about Buendia so i can't comment too much, however i watched Brandt a lot because of Sancho and i wasn't completely convinced.

He is a very intelligent and quick thinking player who likes forward passing and quick interplay and who has both decent passing and dribbling. However he is a bit lightweight in midfield and might be a bit of a defensive liability with and without the ball.

Additionally having seen how Kagawa, Mkhitaryan, and now Harvetz (who were all more highly rated) have struggled in the EPL it is understandable to be reticent.
I really don't know Buendia well though so i can't compare. Dayo watches Brandt weekly so he would have a better assessment

I have watched both. For me Brandt is better especially when he was at Leversuken.
The advantage Buendia has over Brandt is that he scores goals and that's since this season in championship. But when you want a top AM that creates chances and has big game experience, Brandt tops Buendia. That does not mean we must sign him. I am not advocating for any, because these days the more you look the less you see. I'd rather prefer a low profile signing who will not be under pressure to perform and will welcome competition with ESR who I am more interested in his development.

know it was inevitable but I'm still sad Ozil finally leaving. He didn't deserve to go under controversial circumstances most of which not his fault. Wish Mesut all the best. he really helped to bring some joy and success to the Emirates.

Ozil is an expensive toy. His salary can comfortably pay 7 big players in Fenerbahce. And it's not like he will guarantee them any titles. Unless they find a way to recoup their money through shirt sales, then know that they are just compensating him because of Erdogan.
