(1) Four years after the hypothesis in the above attachment has been put forward by A. F. C. Ryder; he himself is reported in a joint publication by Professors Elizabeth Allo Isichei & Peter Uche Isichei to have abandoned his own hypothesis.

These professors of African history note in their joint work, “A History of Nigeria”, as follows:

“It is noteworthy that Ryder, who questioned the Ife connection and argued the case for the linkages with a northern kingdom, abandoned the line of argument in his later book, Benin and the Europeans.”

(2) These are not isolated statement made by just one person or by just one Edo subgroup (and probable subject a misrepresentation, or the result of a misrepresentation, etc.) No! These are multiply attested and multiply corroborated statements from independent and diverse Edo sub-groups as will be seen below.

Moreover, several scholars (if not all scholars on the subject) have adduced evidence which outright ly debunks the hypothesis and reaffirmed the received extant tradition of the Binis — Ife is the origin of our monarchy and art.
