The high successes recorded by dubious politicians, fraudulent pastors and ponzi scheme operators in Nigeria are living proofs that Nigerians can be so gullible. We can easily be deceived. The astronomical hype on Canada is the latest deceit in town. Here are things you need to know before immigrating.

1. The list of richest Nigerians is filled with Nigerians living at home. You're more likely to make it into Forbes if you live in Nigeria. At least that's what the stat shows, whether people making into Forbes in Nigeria are engaging in corrupt practices is a story for another day. The odds of becoming a dollar billionaire favours those at home . No Diaspora Nigerian has ever made it into Forbes billionaire list.

2. There are more money to be made in a developing economy than in a developed economy. That's why as you're rushing out of the country, Lebanese, Indians and Chinese are rushing in. Only few will understand. You're sitting on the biggest market in Africa yet you haven't realize this but the Lebanese and the Indians knew this.

3. If you are the type who don't fancy working for others, it's much more easier to own a business in Nigeria than in Canada/US. Western countries were set up for the 99% populace to work for 1% elites. Their education systems were designed to produce workforce for the rat race. Not to create employers of labour.

4. It's stupidity to resign from a high-paying job in Nigeria in a bid to relocate to Canada/US. Your eyes will get clear up when you start facing the hard realities in Canada. Those who had made this mistake in the past are ashamed to come on social media to talk about it. The ones talking on Twitter are 'freshers' who just arrived.

5. If you want to secure 2nd passport for your kids, you don't necessarily need to immigrate to achieve this. There are other ways, one method is overseas child birth.

6. You're 5x more likely to be shot and rubbed in New York than in Lagos. Poor neighborhoods all over the world has more crime rates. The thing is, when you finally made it in Nigeria, you can move to high brow areas with lesser crime.

7. Nigerians are spending up to 8millions ($21k) and above to immigrate to Canada/US whereas an average canadian or American citizen can't boast of $10k in their bank A/C's. They live pay check to pay check.

8. Some Nigerians claims that they ain't relocating because of the money but because of good infrastructure, good health care system, value for their money etc. That's a lie! 98% of Nigerians who're eager to travel out are relocating because of economic reasons. There are good infrastructure, good health care system and value for money in countries like Kuwait, Russia, Brazil, South Korea, Chile etc but Nigerians ain't trooping there, indicating that their preference for Canada/US is purely based on economic reasons.

9. It's cheaper to live in Nigeria. Canada/US promises higher minimum wage but the system will still take it away from you. It's like giving you with one hand and taking from you with another. $2k (N760k) will pay for your one year rent of 2 bedrooms apartment in a good location in Nigeria but same amount will only fetch you one month rent of a match box apartment in Canada/US.

10. This is not to stop you from traveling out but to inform you on the true realities. Economic immigration should be left for lower or working class who're struggling or to young lads who wants to school abroad and thereafter further their career overseas. Not to deceive Nigerians already earning good in corporate offices in Nigeria to resign and relocate where they will be employed as security guards or to deceive business owners who's businesses are thriving in Nigeria to close down business and relocate. Don't let them deceive you with the hype. Money don't grow on trees anywhere in the world.

My brother, reason why people want to travel is more than all these you have mentioned...

People want to Japa to keep their sanity!

Here is a jungle filled with toxic elements.

A place where you are lied to and smacked on the face as if you have no brains...

A dog enjoys in Australia more than a full bloodied citizen of poverty stricken naija

I don’t want to be a billionaire, I just want to live a sane life; a place where logic works and where I can die smiling...

If you listen to vices that tell you not to travel when you are chanced to, be ready to explain to your kids why Nigeria is a failed state and why you are part of the failed system by failing them...

Are you more patriotic than all the soldiers that waste their lives why some demons in high places are busy playing off their lives like pawns in a chess game?

What you should tell people is that there are countries they can migrate to and fulfill their dreams other than Canada and co.

God no go shame us o

I really use to think like you until after the #EndSARS protest seeing a whole Nigerian Army colonel lie under oath about the #LekkiMassacre... and yes! You are right about some of your points about making money in Nigeria.

I made my first million in my early twenties doing business in Nigeria but, I would rather choose to live in a sane country where system works and hard work is valued than live in Nigeria for the sake of my future generation.

If you believe the likes of Dangote and Otedola live in Nigeria, you are wrong... They have businesses in Africa but spend most of their time outside Nigeria.

You need to travel out of Nigeria once to understand...

I have promised myself, my future generation will surely not be Nigerians. Thanks Op

Visit LinkedIn.com to see where many Nigerians are working in Canada. Keep yarning nonsense. If you go to canada and get citizenship after 3 years. You can still return home if you wish. So why are you pained that people are migrating. If you cant get a job you desire there is option of going back to school and govt sponsors all or part. Some have gone back to study nursing for free.

If i call ambulance it will come, my children can enter government jobs or armed forces without knowing anyone or quota system.i have access to clean water. I have 24 hours light, i hardly enter traffic, i can stroll out at night without fear of hoodlums.

Yesterday after working i went watch ice skating at 7pm. Una don normalize suffering and smiling smh

You made your first million when Nigeria was still manageable. Can you make such amount if you venture into same business now? Be frank please.

Buhari economy is harsh on everyone. Any move to leave this country is a welcome development.

Here we go again... for the umpteenth time, let people that want to emigrate out of Nigeria make their choice. Some Nigerians would fare a lot better and be happier if they were living in Canada or Germany, let them make their choice and go.

While, you guys can share the remaining crude oil dollars that the government makes... okay.

Op, stay in Nigeria if you want to, but don't try to dissuade others with your sentimental post. Most of the people who resigned from their jobs to migrate are guaranteed a life free from spiritual attacks from "evil Nigerian co-workers". And to think there are many of them.

Let me school you. For you to excel in high paying Government agencies in Nigeria, you must be doing something out of the extraordinary otherwise, you won't live to reap your fruits. Working in Nigeria by itself is a risk cos attacks from envious colleagues is something else.

It is better to work as a security guard in a developed country where you will be free from spiritual attacks than to work in a blue chip agency in Nigeria where everyday is a spiritual battle.

I lost two people close to me recently. By the time they both realized where the attack was coming from and they felt it was time to quit, it was too late.

Nigerians (especially on Nairaland and Twitter) are in the habit of believing they know what's best for the next person and it's a really disgusting attitude. What works for you, may not work for the next person. If a person has made up his/her mind to leave the country, you should let them be with their decision it's purely their choice and you're in no position to tell them to back off or even insult them for their choice.

Many of you who go ranting on several threads forget that part of what contributes to the country's GDP is "Diaspora Remittance". Now ask yourself how will this money come in, when you keep trying to discourage people from leaving the country.

Some people relocate so that they can enjoy a working system which they can't get here, and the idea of discouraging people with talks of racism is silly, now tell me what's the difference between racism, and the tribalism/religious intolerance that occurs in the country. Racism has never taken people's live in mass outside Nigeria but religious intolerance/tribalism has caused so many Nigerians there lives.

Also, some people come with their idea of you being a second class citizen but that talk is also " hog wash". We all witnessed several Nigerians elected into various positions in the last U.S elections and some others appointed into various offices, now ask yourself these policy makers second class citizens in the United States?

The system in these countries are built to reward people for their hard work and dedication unlike here where we practice a "man no man system" even if the person is unqualified.

Fellow Country Men, if you have the chance to leave the country or you wish to leave the country, and you have the resources please do. Stop listening to some "Dangote Wanna be", who wants to stay back and try their luck or hope for the best.

If you want to stay back, there is no problem by stop coercing others into taking the same decision.

The Lebanese, Indians, and Chinese are also trooping into Canada and it's like massively. Immigration stats shows that Chinese and Indians are among the highest legal immigrants in Western countries. Not everyone one must stay in a developing and destabilized economy that lacks direction.

3. If you are the type who don't fancy working for others, it's much more easier to own a business in Nigeria than in Canada/US. Western countries were set up for the 99% populace to work for 1% elites. Their education systems were designed to produce workforce for the rat race. Not to create employers of labour.

Again, you have no stats for this. The United States churns out the highest amount of millionaires annually, and also the largest amount of startups globally this can't be achieved in a nation like Nigeria which practices exactly what you talked of.

Someone's choice can't be termed stupid because it doesn't suit your narrative. People live Nigeria to Canada and other developed countries every month and guess what they survive and adapt to the system.

Why will a Software Engineer work in Nigeria and earn N800,000 a month but still be scared of harassment/death from security operatives when Canada can offer you more money for your job, and security of your life.

5. If you want to secure 2nd passport for your kids, you don't necessarily need to immigrate to achieve this. There are other ways, one method is overseas child birth.

It's not just about giving your children second passports after all Brazil offers that, it's about allowing them grow up in a sane environment where things work and people, government, and institutions can be held accountable for their actions.

6. You're 5x more likely to be shot and rubbed in New York than in Lagos. Poor neighborhoods all over the world has more crime rates. The thing is, when you finally made it in Nigeria, you can move to high brow areas with lesser crime.

You're using New York as an example compared to Lagos where this happens everyday in almost every location. The killings in New York mostly takes place in just Brooklyn but in Lagos everywhere is a hotspot.

Again, a person will have to wait in Nigeria to become wealthy to live in high brow area to be safe. Living in the so called "high brow area" is not even cheap as you state it, rent for a house in Lekki can go as high as N 800,000 for a self contain, the big question is how many Nigerians can afford it?

7. Nigerians are spending up to 8millions ($21k) and above to immigrate to Canada/US whereas an average canadian or American citizen can't boast of $10k in their bank A/C's. They live pay check to pay check.

It is wiser to live pay check to pay check than to have all the money in Nigeria, and be killed by either a poor health system, unprofessional security operative or any of the inadequacy that dwells in Nigeria beside they will pay tax which will solve most of the problems that bothers average Nigerian.

There are Nigerians in all this countries you called but some Nigerians have their reason for preferring the West above all this other countries, some of which are;

- Right to Freedom of Speech: Aside South Korea, and Brazil every other country you called trample on the right to free speech including Chile.

Also there is nothing wrong in migrating to a country because of their economy, the UAE is getting stronger economically and people are migrating there, so this your point isn't valid.

Your comparison is awful, you compare countries based on their purchasing power and not just saying "it's cheaper to live in Nigeria". Canada/United States is more powerful than Nigeria economically, so the living standards are high. Someone from the United States/Canada who immigrated to Switzerland/Norway will also find the living standards high.

This is a lie most you "stay in Nigeria preachers" peddle and the gullible always believe it without further research/inquiries. If you migrate as an Accountant to the United States/Canada you will work as an Accountant, you may need some certificates to practice there like we have ICAN in Nigeria this is same for every other profession.

Nigeria is on the list of countries with poor/worst ease of doing business and it has been on the list for a longtime and it isn't leaving it soon. Do you know why it makes that list? It's because this no system or structure put in place for business owners. Any Tom, Dick or Harry can claim to be a task force and take money from business owners, and this cycle continues as more of them will come thereby ruining the business.

Fellow Country Men, if you have the chance to leave the country or you wish to leave the country, and you have the resources please do. Stop listening to some "Dangote Wanna be", who wants to stay back and try their luck or hope for the best.

If you want to stay back, there is no problem but stop coercing others or lying to make them take the same decision.

Thanks for this exhaustive analysis. The average Nigeria is so money conscious and greedy... They think money solves everything.

How you make money is not important because nobody holds you accountable for anything. Zero value for human life.

I hope he doesn't lose something that money cannot buy or solve before realising Nigeria is a dumpster fire.

My annoyance is that all the people that writes about migrating to Canada are actually resident there, holed up in Brampton or Calgary and be discouraging people from embarking on the same journey.

It is already a well known fact that Nigerians abroad hates the idea of their fellow Nigerians trying to make the same immigration journey. I don't know why. Please leave people to make their decision.
