How Do You Leave A Particular Habit by Auduambless(m): 5:40pm On Jan 14, 2021
I have been battling with some habits for quite some years now.

If it's by decision, I have made a lot of decision but end up going back again and again.

If it's by anything, I have done my best... Please nairalanders, if you have ever overcame any habit, can you help a seeking brother find a way outta a bad habits...

Thank you... Please positive replies

Habits!
Detestable!
Decision!
Your problem is half solved. All you need is help from those who have succeeded in overcoming habits they wish to forgo.
So the first step is speak with people who have overcome it, do not hide anything from them, make them your best friends, avoid those who are still in it, think of what to do whenever the urge comes (if you believe in prayer, i'll suggest that's the time to go on your knees and pray to God for help to fight the urge)
Continue associating with overcomers and make them your confidants!

Yes, just like that!

It also depend on the root of the negative habit. Is it natural or spiritual!

If it is spiritual, you may need to kill the root or else the habit will still sprout

A patient has diarrhea cause by eating from unwashed plates and leftover food. He goes to the hospital and he was given some antibiotics. He recovers in three days but only to relapse after two days of returning home.

His conclusion is that the drug isn't working: is he correct?

Have you tried prayer?

If so, add some fasting to it because there are some temptations that cannot be overcome by prayer alone.

God bless.

1. Talk to Dr. Jesus, He is the greatest psychologist.

2. Get busy with the things of God, it will keep you out from trouble (Pray, study the Bible, go to church etc).

3. Reckon yourself dead (Romans 6). A dead man has no habit. You start living when you die to yourself. Paul said in 1 Cor 15 “I die daily.”

4. Control your thought process (2 Cor 10:3-6 kjv). The devil does not try to stop a Christian, he only tries to control his/her thought process. And if he succeeds in doing that, then he can control that Christian.

5. Don’t be too hard on yourself. God knows He is dealing with a human. This will help. And whenever you mess up again, fess up. Confess it (1 John 1:9 kjv). It will keep you in fellowship with the Lord, and also protect you from the devil.

No?
You are correct: Of course not!

He should deal with the root cause and source of his infection and not the efficacy of the administered drugs.

The root of addictions could be:
1. Indulgence in predisposing influences eg. Books, Movies, Music
2. Friendship with negative characters
3. Demons

These need to be dealt with as we humbly seek healing from Christ Jesus!

Hi there.

As a Christian, I have learned that it is spiritual growth (see the link) that changes us morally.

2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord (that is, learning the truth of the Bible; note the context), are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)

It is very hard to make and sustain a true moral change without a spiritual change. It is certainly possible to appear more righteous, to appear to be better at doing good things and avoiding bad things, while still being wicked people in our hearts.

27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. 28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
Matthew 23:27-28 (NKJV)

If we truly want to change in a way that pleases God, then spiritual growth (see the link) is the answer that we have been given by the Lord.

Hello sir.

I thought that you would hold a different opinion than the above. Does the Bible not teach that the root cause of all bad behavior is the flesh in which sin lives (Romans 7:18)?

Of course, anything that encourages or provides an opportunity for our flesh to act in keeping with its nature is not good to tolerate, but such things are hardly the root cause of sin, whether of the occasional sort or of the addictive sort.

I agree with you: but the flesh isn't the root cause of ALL sin even though, no sin/addiction can be committed without the input of the flesh.

We obviously have three major enemies as Christians.
1. The Flesh:
This is our natural inclination towards pleasure and freedom from discomfort. The flesh doesn't care one bit about God's will and so we have a duty to subdue it by the entrance of the word of Faith!
2. The World:
This is the system created by the citizens of this world following their master satan. We are drawn to the world because we live in the world (but we are not of the world)
3. The devil:
This is the combination of satan, spiritual forces of darkness, principalities, demons, etc
They tempt Christians using both their flesh and the world as a bait.

With the Word of God, we subdue our flesh. When the flesh is subdued, the other two enemies (the world and satan) are become powerless over us.

The other thing the devil can do is to create negative opportunities that will cause a Christian to make hard decisions.

The second other thing is when a Christian is demonized. Hebmayneed to go for his deliverance to be free.

Shalom.

I think that we are saying the same thing. The fact that Satan tempts us to sin or that the world around us provides pressure for us to sin does not change the fact that the root of sin is our flesh. As you said, if the flesh is taken out of the picture, then the world and Satan himself are significantly reduced in their ability to cause us to sin. The main problem is our flesh. During the Millennium, for example, the world will be perfect and under the rule of Jesus Christ and Satan will be imprisoned with the rest of the rebel angels in the Abyss, yet people will be sinning and the vast majority of people will be unbelievers.

Anyway, I was just surprised that you said what you said.

Cheers.

I have overcome plenty of habits myself and the way I did it was by following Jesus Christ's advice regarding breaking free from bondage to sin. Jesus Christ declares that the key is to know the truth(trusting in and obeying it), and by doing just that, the Truth will set you free from whatever it is you seek to break free from.

For instance, if you are battling slavery to sin, what you need do is gain understanding of what sin is, where it comes from, and how to overcome it, all this is true studying and knowing Jesus Christ, the New Covenant Truth of God. Only by learning His teachings, trusting and obeying His commandments and teachings, can you break free of the hold sin has on your life and mind.

John 8 vs 31-36
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
31. So Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him, “If you continue to accept and obey my teaching, you are really my followers.
32. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
33. They answered, “We are Abraham’s descendants. And we have never been slaves. So why do you say that we will be free?”
34. Jesus said, “The truth is, everyone who sins is a slave—a slave to sin.
35. A slave does not stay with a family forever. But a son belongs to the family forever.
36. So if the Son makes you free, you are really free.
It worked for me where sin is concerned, just as Jesus Christ said it would. undecided
