Hello olasubomy, can I get in touch with this writer, I need him/her to go through my SOP please. Thank you.
olasubomy:
I came accross this on one of the old thread and thought might be useful for the new applicants in the house.

Credit to SOPWriter:

I have decided to take my time to correct the rife practices of my fellow countrymen, regarding the common mistakes they make in their statement of purpose: I have reviewed much numbers of SOP and I could discern what is ubiquitous, therefore the necessity I have laid on myself for this selfless address. Aside the tips I have benevolently stated on this forum, I see the need to be of adequate assistance to as much as possible numbers of persons who will appreciate this kindness, by adhering to these corrections.
So, I will list out these ‘common mistakes’, then point out the bloopers:

UNNCESSARY PIECE OF INFORMATION: Although this is not only practiced among Nigerians (I have sighted this fault in other nationality citizens as well.); we tend to state things that are completely irrelevant to our application. A Nairalander once sent me his SOP, before he did; he was bravado of his piece, saying he only needed me to see how good he was. To cut the long story short, he sent me his SOP, and I was flabbergasted to see “I own an apple laptop valued $1,000, two iphones that worth $500 each, making $2,000. U of R is a good school, as they will help me look for Job when I graduate with first class. Canada is a good place where you earn a good standard of living, unlike Nigeria, where people live in poverty”. I stared for ten seconds, especially after considering how he had boasted of his SOP. “My people”, learn to stay on point, stop stating things that have nothing to do with your studies!

IT IS NOT ABOUT THE LENGTH BUT THE VALUE OF INFORMATION:
This is mostly applicable to Nairalanders (the guy I used as an example above made use of 3 pages), you will hear something like “I wrote a superb SOP of 4 pages, three thousand words”, and when you read through their SOP; all you will see are piece of information that will shoot them in the leg: it is the value of details that matters, and not the lengthiness of a written/typed piece.

WRONG USAGE OF GRAMMERS: it could be funny sometimes while reading some SOP; many applicants turn to overnight Grammarians; then starts filling up their SOP with words that is completely inapplicable in a writing context; wrong usage of words, bad grammatical structure, counterfactual spellings, etc. They completely forget they could be communicating with a native speaker who might be familiar with these words and get irritated: Use the words you are familiar with, grammars are not mandatory, effective communication is.

I took 30 minutes of my precious time to write this short piece, and I hope it assist someone to attain his/her goal.

It will end in praise.

From previous threads i observed almost everyone was applying with Ielts... In my case, i have not written one, but the institutions I'm applying to only require proof from my undergraduate school that the language of instruction was in England. I have gotten a letter from the registrar of my undergraduate university with letter headed paper and all stating that i have full capacity and English proficiency.

Is this enough going on to apply for my student visa? Also, i have no travel history. Is it advisable to go on and take Ielts since i still have time till fall.

Note: schools I'm apppying to are fine with the letter from my registrar, I'm simply concerned if that would be enough for the visa application.

If you are going via the NSE route to apply for Canada Study Visa, you need to submit a valid IELTS result.

If its via the Regular Channel, IELTS is not needed

If you have no TRAVEL HISTORY, you have nothing to worry about

For Admission purpose , the Letter of Confirmation of English Proficiency is enough

Resumption is in September, and i have just started building my account. I'm not certain on how long it takes to process the application via normal route. Should i just take the ielts exam, since i hear NSE is faster or use the normal route and build the sponsors account?

Hello everyone,

I am considering paying the application fee for masters in MUN. I would need help from anyone who has knowledge on my background.

I am 35years old and I have read that it maybe difficult to convince a visa officer why I took long in applying for student visa.

I have a cgpa of 3.20 in my Bsc, I graduated 2010. Will it suffice to apply for MSC or I go the PGD route?

I have not worked since 2019 cuz I was nursing a sick child whom we later lost.

I plan to go with my family (4).

Please do I stand a chance with all these? I don't want my application fee to waste.

From the success stories of members in this forum who went through the NSE route, I feel the NSE route is better cos of the way application is being expedited, 20 days as far as you have the requirements (Mybank Statement Certificate of $30,000 CAD & IELTS with the minimum required band score)

You can read the contents in the links below for more details on that

NSE route
https://www.nairaland.com/5818588/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/705#97124448

Update on NSE route
https://www.nairaland.com/6321900/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/71#97773070

The Regular Channel is also ok, the only present downside of this Route is the Processing time for Nigerian Applicants ,13 weeks

So you know that, it's the same way you will apply for the Regular Channel you will apply for the NSE route, the only difference is the way NSE route requires you to do Proof of Funds i.e MybankStatement Ticket & the amount $30,000 CAD & the English test (IELTS) requirement.

Am sure you noticed that towards Late October 2020 till date, some members who applied via the Regular Channel got NSE request, so those who have the required additional documents sent it to expedite their application, some decided not to cos they don't have the required additional documents and opted for their application should be processed via the regular channel.

Thanks for this informations... I have two more questions please. How many months of bank statement is required for the regular route and for NSE, is it the sponsors account that is required (like in my case, my mother's) or the applicants account?

And are you required to make your account in specific way, asides having 30k cad in account.

You are welcome,
If you check the content in that NSE route link

It says
Must submit a "MyBankStatement No. & Ticket Password" of $30,000 CAD of at least 6 months with a 12 months banking history

Regular Channel requires your Sponsor shows a 4-6 month's bank account statement and show availability of your Tuition & Compulsory One Year Living expenses of $10,000 CAD

In a nutshell, If it's your sponsor that is totally Sponsoring you, it's only your Sponsor's Bank Account Statement or MybankStatement Ticket that is needed.

Good morning everyone, please I have few questions to ask.

I want to apply through the NSE route, how do I do it, pls share a link if the route has a special link. I have not started my application at all. how do I go about an upfront medicals, and how do I get the police check certificate?

Secondly, my sponsor is resident in America and her bank is an american bank. How will she raise the " mybank statement?

Lastly, I'm going for undergraduate studies, do I need to submit CV too?

I have butterflies in my stomach.

Thanks once again... Would follow up the link.
My sponsor just wants to start building her account for 6 months in preparation for September. From what I'm reading, does that translate that they would require a full years bank statement, with which 6 months must have 30k CAD?

If this is the case i might not be able to make up.

Good morning nairalanders and happy New year,
Please I need your help in this matter.

I was refused student visa by CIC and afterwards I applied for tuition refund thru my agent. I was given a reference number after submission. 9weeks after submitting the application, I mailed the school for an update. The school replied that CIBC is yet to receive my banking information. Meanwhile, the tuition fee was paid thru my agent.
Please I need your advice:
1) should I request my agent to send the account number he used and then fill the CIBC form again by myself?
2) is there any way I can use the reference number to track the stage of the refund process in CIBC website?
3) should I be calm and wait for sometime
Please I need your advice
Help a brother

Hello Mr Frank.

Please i would like to have more info as regards the Spouse PR , as I intend to sponsor my spouse starting from next month.

Canadian spousal sponsorship is how a Canadian citizen or permanent resident can sponsor their partner to come to Canada and live permanently. The Spousal PR sponsorship is a paper-based application. Your spouse is required to include relevant documents as per IRCC checklist and transmit the documents to the Centralized Intake Office at Novia Scotia for visa processing.

I wouldn't want to derail the thread, hence I'll have to refer you to IRCC website where you could get more information about the program and the list of documents/forms relating to it.

I hope this information is helpful to your enquiry.
