Romans 3:10-12 kjv - “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” This is a paraphrase of Psalms 14:1-3.

Man’s whole being is corrupt:
1. His mind (None understandeth 1 Cor 12:11-14). the people today look for a god they can get along with.

2. His heart (None seeketh after God). There’s no sinner that seeks God, God seeks the sinner. In (Gen 3:8 ) God sought Adam. Zacchaeus was looking for the Lord in (Luke 19), but God was the one coming after him. Same with Peter in (John 21).

3. His will (none doeth good vs 12). Here the apostle Paul is dealing with man’s relationship to God, not good works. Now there are 5 reasons a person does good works:
I. A person does good because they are afraid to do wrong. (E.g I don’t want to rob a bank because I don’t want to go to jail).
II. They want their good works to outweigh their bad. They think it will get them to heaven.
III. They are too old to do bad.
IV. Some don’t do bad because they don’t have the money to do bad.
V. Some do good just out of duty. They received training and they don’t want to be a coward. (E.g Police, army, etc).

All these had to be explained to those who are busy doing works for salvation, thinking that their own filthy righteousness will get them to Heaven. No. Man is corrupt. You need the righteousness of God which is Jesus Christ. Get saved today.

How a person can do good in the eyes of God:
1. He has to act from a holy principle. (From something God said to do).
2. The deed must be done in the right spirit.
3. The person must have the right motive to please God. Don’t do something because of your reputation.

True, but in addition to all this - we should remember that there is no work/act that we can do (Matthew 19:26), to live again/be born again (Ephesians 2:1) in spirit and clothed with GOD's righteousness (Isaiah 54:17) - and be saved from wrath for sin (1 Thessalonians 1:10).

The context of the topic is not about salvation. It's about those doing works for salvation. Just to remind them that man's whole being is corrupt and without the righteousness of God, none can go to heaven. Then the last part concerning doing good in the eyes of God only applies to a saved Christian.

We are not saying anything at odds! Ephesians 2:8-9 is all "about those doing works for salvation" and a true child of GOD will show you his/her unearned, GOD given faith by his/her works (James 2:18), which GOD already purposed for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). GOD does all the work, all!
