Relocation From Abuja To Lagos: What Do I Need To Do? by Phlegman: 4:00am On Aug 02, 2020 |
Dear professionals on Nairaland, I lived and worked in Abuja for six years before relocating to Lagos last month. The reason for my relocation is my inability to get a well paying job in the capital city even though I have almost five years experience n Customer Service Now that i am in Lagos, I need your advice on how I can get a better job in Lagos. I have been applying for Customer Service roles and also had two interviews within three weeks of relocation. I haven't done a job that paid well throughout my five years of post NYSC experience. Your advice is highly needed. Thank you. 1 Like |

There could be a lot of reasons why you didn't get a high paying customer service position when you were in Abuja. But I'll advise you to try something different from what you have been doing, here are some. 1. Your resume is outdated:- After working 6 years in a customer service position, chances are that you have gained additional skill, certification or a recognition of some sort. You could have learnt how to use a new software. No matter how little, your resume should be updated with the tiniest bit of information. The resume you used to get a job 6 years ago shouldn't be the one you should use now. And most importantly, make sure the resume is taillored for customer service roles. 2. LinkedIn presence:- Just like Facebook and IG, everyone should be on, it's where job vacancies are posted, you can connect with Hiring Managers, and opportunities are shared daily. We are in the era where one needs to consistently talk about what he/she does. Your first step is to have an optimised LinkedIn profile. 3. Certification:- The requirements between a high and low paying job are definitely not the same. You might need to show competence for you to get hired. Cetifications are an awesome way to show competence as you would have gained additional knowledge in the field. There are free courses flying around, some even come with certifications. Uploading this certs will definitely improve your chances of being hired 4:- Applying sporadically:- Once you have tailored your resume to suit customer service position ( by this I mean using relevant keywords and resume formatting that will capture the attention of a Recruiter), then you get on job board like jobberman and applying with a well written cover letter. Make sure to use the filter because not all job will suit you. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Packaging and your limitless skills.... Having a customer service skills should not limit you from adding public relations skills and financially risk management skills and other relevant skills to your acquired experience. Building up yourself will advance your chances of getting better paid jobs. You'll be seen as an asset when you have many skills to be put into actions when an employer sees you as someone they can't do without...You use that opportunity to hike your pay. 1 Like 1 Share |

ResumesByKay: Thank you for your advice I have a strong presence on LinkedIn and I constantly update my CV. I also paid a whopping some to a professional CV writer to rewrite my CV. I have certifications also, both from offline courses and online courses like LinkedIn Learning and EDX |
