I have been on the receiving end of this thing twice. Last year I had to assist a relative of mine to buy back her car because her driver stupidly drove against the flow of traffic. In 2005 I followed someone to search for his car after LASTMA towed it away. It still hasn't, wouldn't and can't make me go against the policy. In fact, it was last year when I discovered that people can buy back their vehicles at the auction that I became convinced that crushing the cars is the right way to go. This is not about supporting any government. I have a right to move around Lagos without some lunatic trying to kill me by driving against the flow of traffic and I will fully support anything that protects that right. 5 Likes 3 Shares |

naptu2:I stand corrected. Still against the law anyway. I believe the government is putting the burned of their incompetence on the general population. What happens to seizing or suspending driver's license or even vehicle license. What happens to punishing the actual offenders instead of the owner. Most cars owners don't drive themselves and employ driver's. You mean I send my driver to go on an errand, he drives one way and my car get impounded and auctioned, while the driver goes scot-free? |

naptu2: Indeed. Nigerians can be the most arrogant and obnoxious people in the world sometimes. Even witness an argument on the road. You will see men and women not concerned at all with the original argument join in to be removing shirt and wrapper to fight. This is the case here where even folks in Abia, Enugu etal, because of tribal hate and over sabi, will join this debate to be siding with their kinsman, or woman in this case, without considering the argument of Lagos road users. We are saying we face death daily plying Lagos roads because of lawless people and some are arguing pettily against seizing and selling cars of offenders. The situation is about brazen and potentially fatal lawlessness every law-abiding Lagos driver is fed up of and wants to stop by any means possible. As has been argued before, several deterrents have been tried with no result. You can't ban people from the road because they simply wont comply. The best and most efficient way to prevent lawless drivers committing manslaughter on Lagos roads is to take their vehicle. DJ Witch is just a callous attention-seeker and clout chaser only focused on boosting her 'activist' credentials. If she has being a consistent or daily driver in Lagos State then she would not be saying this garbage. 2 Likes 1 Share |

wirinet: Oga forget the long story. Are you from Lagos? If yes do you drive in Lagos daily? Abeg tell us that first and we continue the convo from there. In my opinion Nigeria is cursed with too many citizens who love the sound of their own voice instead of the suggestion of real solutions to problems others face that they know nothing about yet are willing to comment on forcefully and ignorantly. If you are faced with the scenario of leaving home this morning and not knowing if you will make it back home today or end up in a mortuary somewhere, because of the actions of a lawless driver, then perhaps you would not be arguing obdurately and needlessly here like the attention-seeking DJ Witch and her government-hating fans. |

OneTemplate: I drive in lagos, and in fact have driven in lagos for over 30 years. So I know far more about Lagos traffic problems than you. I was driving in lagos when fines for traffic offenses rose from a few thousand naira to hundreds of thousands of naira. Did that stop or even reduce traffic violations? I was driving in Lagos when mandatory psychiatric evaluation and treatment was imposed on one way driving offenses, Did that stop or even reduce traffic violations? Do you think this new law of auctioning cars that are found driving one way will stop or reduce cars driving way? Your guess is as good as mine. You don't cure a disease by treating the symptoms while leaving the root cause of the disease. We have serious system issues, which includes lawlessness and impunity by government officials and the elite, corruption at all levels and others. Then there is the problem of terrible roads. Try driving from trade fair to LASU and see the chaos that goes on there everyday. Until those issues are addressed and thrashed, we will continue to go round in circles. This law will only further enrich police and LASMA officials. 1 Like |

plaindealer: Am with you in obey in the law and protect lives but offenders also we will always have in a country like ours and when we do, what transparent corrective measures do we put in place not this fraudulent ineffective and inefficient that the government is currently executing. What is government doing about traffic decongestion such that we don't sit on the road for several hours without being tempted to do what they don't want! What facilities should government put in place to ensure there is literally no excuse to go one way or break traffic rules? What is government doing to ensure that upholders of the law are not the defaulters of the same law! What is government doing or putting in place to ensure that their officers are doing their jobs with sincerity of purpose and in public interest, not their pockets or abusing the powers vested on them. Even if they are offenders and impounding is their choice, how transparent and accountable are their processes and actions? These are the questions to be answer for a genuine corrective measures. So I don't support offenders in anyway but even government, I don't trust in anyway. Their actions hasn't changed the way people behave and its till they begin to show integrity till citizens can can show a corresponding reaction or adjustment. |

DJ switch isn't against the impounding of vehicles of traffic offenders. she is against auctioning them as the process would be devoid of transparency. Personally, I think stiffer measures like heavy fines, jail terms should be imposed depending on the gravity or nature of the traffic offense. I also recommend crushing of the vehicles if need be. This will further reduce the alarming number of vehicles on the road thereby reducing traffic. The offenders should incur the cost too let's not pretend, people buy back their vehicles at auctions, government sell to their cronies, in the end the vehicles return to the road and the cycles continues. Auctioning seems counter productive. 1 Like |

plaindealer: You made a comparison and I gave you a pint of it, all hell broke loose on your tiny brain. Another question for you. Why is Nigeria and it's unprogressive government still constructing the Same roads every year?? Parting shot. Most elected officials of not all go against the traffic rules once they're on transit I know you support them and they are above the law. |

Beremx: Those danfo drivers are number one on the list, most of them act like animals. But what are the government doing with the money after those cars are been auction? Fix the bad roads? Cause I still see so many bad roads in Lagos or they just pocket it as usual |
Re: You Are A Thief - DJ Switch Slams Lagos State Government by ericmor: 3:21pm On Jan 20, 2021 |
wirinet: So the driver will go and get another car and still commit the same offence just because the government had failed to do the right thing by getting the offender |

Re: You Are A Thief - DJ Switch Slams Lagos State Government by plaindealer: 5:46pm On Jan 20, 2021 |
wirinet: At the end of the day, this is your own personal opinion, the people of Lagos state put voted for and put their elected officials in office to look out for and protect the people of Lagos state. Here we have lawless, disorderly and evil people killing Lagosians because of their lawless acts and you think trivial actions like taking away drivers license is equivalent to human life. The issue of driving against traffic and needless deaths has been around for a long time, it's been in the news and we've seen governors after governors shouting, screaming and pleading to stop driving against traffic, they've stopped to arrest many offenders, but the issue didn't go away because of lack of strong deterrence and stiff penalties. So, as innocent Nigerians perish on our roads, the only solution and penalty you can come up with is suspending drivers license that they are allowed to reclaim later. This sounds like leadership and competence to you? In a lot of places around the world, your car gets towed for wrong parking and the last time time I checked, wrong parking is not life threatening like driving against traffic, but wrong parking still gets your car impounded and you have to pay serious fees including impound fees to get it back. Now, it is not up to the government or law enforcement to determine or even consider who the original owner is, the fact remains that the car and the driver wronged the law, your issue is with the lawless and criminal driver that you hired and gave your car to, that's your own personal responsibility, that's a reflection of your own bad judgement and personal incompetence, it has nothing to do with the law pr the government. |
Re: You Are A Thief - DJ Switch Slams Lagos State Government by plaindealer: 5:52pm On Jan 20, 2021 |
bularuz: When you kill people because you drove against the traffic, impounding your car is one of the penalties, kilning people carries more and severe penalties, they don't let you go after impounding your car when you kill people, your car gets taken away and you go to prison for a very very long time. |
Re: You Are A Thief - DJ Switch Slams Lagos State Government by plaindealer: 5:56pm On Jan 20, 2021 |
andycom: Your comparison was illogical and inapplicable, it's like saying you are allowed to rob a bank because you are poor or because the government did not provide jobs. What the government is doing or not doing is not an excuse to break the laws. Are you going to teach your children to break the law and endanger people's lives because the government did this or didn't do that? Please, reason like a sensible adult. |
Re: You Are A Thief - DJ Switch Slams Lagos State Government by plaindealer: 6:04pm On Jan 20, 2021 |
hush15: Government's actions or inaction is always questionable and we are all free to criticize the government, but not when the government puts laws in place and enforce laws to protect the people or stand against criminal and lawless elements killing innocent citizens on our road. This issue has nothing to do with government failures in other areas of governance, protecting, saving lives and enforcing our laws is good governance, this is what we need to encourage and support instead of coming up with unrelated side issues. |
Re: You Are A Thief - DJ Switch Slams Lagos State Government by plaindealer: 6:17pm On Jan 20, 2021 |
wirinet: You don't like the fact that they are impounding cars for driving against traffic, you think it's too severe, you think suspending their drivers license is the answer, but you are here admitting that fines did not reduce traffic violations. You have a list of government actions that did not reduce traffic violations while at the same time criticizing the government for enforcing traffic laws, saying it's too hash. You are either speaking from both sides of your mouth or just being needlessly hypocritical. |
Re: You Are A Thief - DJ Switch Slams Lagos State Government by ILuvMerije(f): 6:22pm On Jan 20, 2021 |
plaindealer: And do you know how many thousands have died because the govt. refused to fix roads, hospitals etc? Don't you think that the lawless and thoughtless government need to explain to families and victims of their wicked and selfish acts why they should not be punished? If your government had put things in order, would people follow one way? |
Re: You Are A Thief - DJ Switch Slams Lagos State Government by plaindealer: 6:51pm On Jan 20, 2021 |
ILuvMerije: So, the government should not enforce the laws put in place to make sure that you don't get killed because of lawless and criminal elements driving against traffic until the government build good roads and give you hospitals? What kind of backwards thinking is this? Are the dead people from criminals driving against traffic still driving on our roads and enjoying good hospitals? Dead people don't drive on good roads or go to the hospital for treatment, this is how ridiculous and absurd you sound. It is not by force to criticize especially when you are not making any sense. |
Re: You Are A Thief - DJ Switch Slams Lagos State Government by andycom(m): 8:39pm On Jan 20, 2021 |
plaindealer: I won't teach my children to do what is not lawful cos I don't do such. But you left my parting shot cos it hurt you real bad. Your government has been building the same road since 1960 and no new ones has been built. Your government officials disregard traffic rules and apply one way everywhere they go, you won't see that one na ordinary citizens will cause accident. Cry me a river. |
Re: You Are A Thief - DJ Switch Slams Lagos State Government by plaindealer: 9:25pm On Jan 20, 2021 |
andycom: You should have stopped right here. Obey the law and also teach your children to obey the law. Disobeying the law because the government did not build this and that road is not an excuse to disobey the law or to kill innocent Nigerian road users. You are talking from both sides of your mouth. Just obey the law and support government's efforts to protect and save the lives of your fellow Nigerians. |
