pufframmy:You have different options 1. Study visa 2. Critical skill visa and 3. Voluntary visa. The first two are better and easier once you followed the process. Voluntary visa is for religious workers, workers for NGO and so on. It is extremely difficult to see a church or NGO that will give letter when you are not a worker in the organization. For study visa , You need to submit your docs for evaluation( check Saqa site for the cost)between 60k to 100k will sort it out depending on your qualifications you want evaluate. 2. Applications to different schools may cost you less than 60k, depending on how many universities you applied to .3. Once you have admission letter you are expected to pay for medical insurance around 150k depending on the exchange rate. Add all these figures together , it is roughly 300k plus and be lesser depending on how many schools you applied to. |

Migration is not always an easy ride for Africans especially Nigerians , however study route remains the easier way to travel . .First ,Map out the countries you can study and work . Second ,consider the cost . 3.Apply for scholarships ,although scholarships are competitive but it is possible 4. Join different research networks in your field of study while you are still in Nigeria . 5 Enhance your CV through volunteering and community engagement . Above all pray and ask questions. 1 Like |

Saqa evaluation will be needed also. Check the below to confirm The Critical Skills List – Published 3rd June 2014 The critical skills list is pivotal to applicants being able to make an application under the critical skills visa or permit work category. Hustle is not really so good in SA but at least it pays the bills Your best bet is to apply and get a funded postgraduate scholarship from your school. Also, your professor (supervisor) might be nice enough to offer you a graduate teaching assistant role. My professor was really helpful on this particular matter. However, if you want to hustle, your best chance is to get a small car when you are in SA and register as an Uber eats driver or Mr Delivery driver. I'm currently driving for Uber and I work between the hours of 4/5 pm - 8/9 pm everyday. That is how I have been able to survive SA so far. On Accomodation: For your first few months, its always good to stay around university environment but once you are well adapted to the clime, you can decide to live a bit further from school area to reduce your accomodation cost. Before you conclude an apartment payment, please try and take note of the environment. Those ETA boys are not playing On Money spending: Please try and live below your means. Don't get me wrong, live comfortably but avoid unneccessary spendings. Its easy to get carried away with the goodlife, malls, clothing stores etc. On Life generally- SA is a beautiful place and depending on the city you are, you are opened to different but limited opportunities after studies. Be careful with the Wena Girls , Open your mindset and network with people strategically while in school. On Xenophobia- Been here for 2 years, I have never experienced it and I don't think I will. It all depends on the environment you decide to live in. Xenophobia mostly happens in the location areas. I live in Port Elizabeth and I have never smelled Xenophobia. akoredebaba1: |

Nicoswit: True that even my former Dr in midrand was a Nigerian good guy. He also complained about this gangs. They leave a bitter taste, my story(i have been a victim, i rented my house to a young lady in midrand only to find that they will use the house as a brothel when i confronted the lady o was threatened by this two nigerian who the lady was fronting for since they did not have proper documentation to rent a house. After that they kinder hijacked my house without paying rent. It took me almost 6 months to get those guy out of that house through courts). Am just trying to show you where my irrational view of Nigerians is coming from. |

KLEINBASS: I have a family friend who is a pilot in Midrand, some medical professionals saving lives and even friends working in financial institutions, there are definitely a lot of good nigerian ambassadors in SA ,unfortunately bad news sells more than good news. So sorry about your experience, but trust me when you meet the good ambassadors you would be proud to be associated with them. They are very accommodating, hospitality, Nigerians are one of the most hardworking and industrious people u will ever come across 2 Likes |

Goodman247:It will be great if this happen but it is not possible because of 1. Corruption in high places 2. Nigerian drug dealers are amateurs in the game compare to the Asians .3 How is drug coming to South Africa? Are there Nigerians working in immigration or custom in SA ? Capital No . Why is drug business thriving in SA over years ? The drug baron " Teddy Mafia " 62years old was running his drug businesses for decade and police was quite aware but he was never jailed until he was killed two weeks ago by two guys . Was he a Nigerian man ? No ,he was a South African man . Countries have bad and good citizens , hence we have few Nigerians doing illegal deals ,this few is less than 5 percent of the total Nigerian population in SA . We encourage the government to deport this set of people or jail them. Without mincing words , many people are ignorance of Nigerian positive contribution to the progress of South Africa. In education, Nigerian masters and PhD students have contributed immensely to research output in South African universities. Virtually ,in all universities in SA there are Nigerians lecturing and working as researchers . The South African environment is good and conducive for research. In health sphere ,Nigerian medical professionals are scattered all over South Africa from rural area to urban domain. In business, there are Nigerians doing genuine businesses in South Africa. Some of these people employed South Africans ,hence reducing unemployment rate and creating jobs for South Africans. What about technicians who repair laptops , phones and computers ? What about IT experts and engineers ? You cannot use bad behaviour of few to paint Nigerians bad . Take a visit to schools, universities and hospitals you will see many Nigerians doing well . Why do we still have Nigerians in SA despite the challenges? 1. Good infrastructure and 24/7 electricity. 2. South African health systems is one of the best in Africa . It is free medical care . In Nigeria, CS may cost 300k or more, in SA it is free for citizens and foreigners. Women give birth without any stress free of charge.3. opportunities abound especially if you are a professional or you have skills or hand work . 4. South Africa is the gateway to Europe Canada and USA .5.South African universities are well funded . Masters and PhD students have opportunities for scholarships irrespective of their countries of origin.6. PhD may take 2_4 in SA but in Nigeria many years .5.Business opportunities abound. 7.Cheaper in terms of flight and visa application. 7. South Africans are very friendly and accommodating. Are you planning to come SA? 1. Find out what you will do to survive ( so that you don't join illegal deals ).2come with long term visa not visitor visa ( if you plan to stay long ). 3. Learn a skill or hand work before coming .4. With Covid 19 jobs are now scarce hence you must have skills or hand work or capital to start business. 5. If you want pursue your PhD or masters fine ,ensure your admission letter is genuine . 9 Likes |

I explained twice the process in obtaining residence permit. This process is simple and clear. It becomes cumbersome when you are looking for shortcut. Often times most Nigerians try to cut corners instead of following the process. |
