In the real sense of it, VDB looks more like he was signed in anticipation of Pogba leaving, and also as a backup to Fernandes in case things go south.

Also, the only ‘chance’ he might have is playing on LW, or on the right side of a 4-4-2 Diamond formation, but the team doesn’t have any trustworthy DM, so OGS prefers using McFred.

For me, VDB can play pogba's role only that he doesn't have the range on his pass, I think that's why only plays he closer to the opponents post and not deep.

He is more of the close-range passer and actually suits us better in an 8 role.
Unfortunately United may not be the place for him to really shine at the moment given how we play,mostly on the counter.

But I'm hoping he does adapt and evolve his game.

Truth is he is looking like a buy we might not really need at the moment.

At the moment.ent he is not as versatile as Pigba in the middle.
I suspect Ole doesn't trust him enough.

I am happy we have found a mentality to win games and overcome adversity. A big part of becoming a winning team.
