Congrats. Do you plan on having a baby in Brazil or you came on a work permit visa? I ask because you said you finally moved to Brazil. Yet you also said someone had to vouch for you to be able to get an accommodation. Ijeamaka1: |

Congrats @Ijeamaka1... Please, how did you go about money exchange issues? Did you open a dom account with gtbank and save $ in it to spend in Brazil as suggested by someone in this thread? Or... Did you leave your naira in your naira account and then exchange it once in Brazil? What is the best thing to do please? @all. Ijeamaka1: |

Ijeamaka1: Why not try out the BDC aspect maybe you would see a better deal ? Hmmmn. Let me to do the calc well. to see if it's okay to just buy $ here in Nigeria to one's Dom Account from aboki or use this ur own method. |
Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by chytai(f): 10:25pm On Jan 24, 2021 |
Hi, please did you buy health insurance? And how much is the balance in your bank account at the time you submitted your application. Ijeamaka1: |

Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by slimanyd: 12:40am On Jan 25, 2021 |
centuryman: I realised the rate to a dollar over there is around 530/$ from his calculations. I think the best thing to save enough money is simply to get the dollar rate from aboki here and deposit it into your GTB $ dom Account , Thereby, you relieve your self from the extraneous exchange rate to a large extent. In Nigeria, We can still get it through aboki at 460/$ highest, whereas, Using the Brazilian BDC to get same amount will be roughly at 530/$ . 2 Likes |
Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by centuryman(m): 1:35am On Jan 25, 2021 |
slimanyd: Well I guess you still have to change the dollars to reais and the 10% govt. tax will apply. So aside the high rate from the Brazilian BDC, you'd still pay 10% tax. One needs to look for the best solution. Perhaps others who have gone through this particular process could weigh in with practical solution(s). It will be much appreciated. Obrigado. |

Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by slimanyd: 7:32am On Jan 25, 2021 |
centuryman: Nope. I think10% only applies in a situation when u accept to change it to reas at travelex but you can easily use ur gtb dollar card to make Withdrawals without any charges through the atm. Let's await some more information as regards the best way to manuevre the scenario sha from the profs in brazil. And moreover , Can't one send the fund to a family in naija and the person use western union to send such amount to brazil while the receiver gets same amount of money in cash without issues of exchange rate cheating. 1 Like |
Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by Ajokeomo: 9:38am On Jan 25, 2021 |
slimanyd: You are right, 10% does not apply to withdrawals made at the ATM, GTB however charges for all withdrawal transactions made. I know for naira card, they charge N1,200 for every withdrawal transaction, no charges for POS usage. I’m not sure how much they charge on dollar card. What I used to do is withdraw the amount I want to use at once to avoid multiple charges. I also use POS a lot, even street vendors have POS (not all). GTB naira to reas rate is usually low, very close to the official rate. The BDC rate is also not fixed, it differs depending on who you are buying from and also depending on official rate at the time. 2 Likes |
Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by centuryman(m): 9:51am On Jan 25, 2021 |
slimanyd: As for western union you can't send money from Nigeria. Again, let's wait for those who have navigated this to kindly guide us.

Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by centuryman(m): 10:08am On Jan 25, 2021 |
Ajokeomo: Are you saying you withdraw reais or even dollars from Brazilian ATMs with a Naira denominated ATM? Is this what you mean? |
Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by Ajokeomo: 10:56am On Jan 25, 2021 |
centuryman: Yes, I withdraw reas with GTB naira mastercard. Other Nigerian denominated mastercards might work too. The issue with naira mastercards now is the limit. As at 2019 and early 2020, the limit was higher so I could withdraw as much reas as I needed. With the spending limit, you can limit your naira mastercard to minor POS purchases only while you use your dollar card for major withdrawals. Also, when you want to use POS and they ask “Debito ou Credito”. You need to respond “Credito” even though our cards have “Debit” written on them. 1 Like |
