China flies about 28 warplanes close to Taiwan in early test of Biden's foreign policy

China sent two large formations of warplanes close to the island of Taiwan, a self governing island, that Beijing claims belongs to mainland China.

The muscle flexing by China's military over the weekend, presents a significant foreign policy challenge to new United States President Joe Biden just days into his new administration.

According to Taiwan's Defense Ministry, 13 Chinese planes entered the southwestern portion of the island's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on Saturday followed by 15 on Sunday, prompting Taipei to scramble fighter jets to monitor the Chinese planes.

The ADIZ is defined as "a designated area of airspace over land or water within which a country requires the immediate and positive identification, location, and air traffic control of aircraft in the interest of the country's national security."

According to Taiwan's Defense Ministry, Chinese military planes made more than 380 flights into the island's air defense identification zone last year.

The timing of the Chinese flights and their use of fighter jets and bombers appeared intended to send a message to Biden after the former Administration constantly opposed China's oppressive moves towards Taiwan.

In a statement Saturday, the Biden administration urged Beijing to stop trying to intimidate Taiwan.

"We urge Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure against Taiwan and instead engage in meaningful dialogue with Taiwan's democratically elected representatives," US State Department spokesman Ned Price said, adding that US-Taiwan ties are deepening and Washington remains committed to the island's self-rule.

Beijing claims full sovereignty over Taiwan, a democracy of almost 24 million people located off the southeastern coast of mainland China, despite the fact that Taiwan has been governed separately for more than seven decades.

China's President, Xi Jinping has vowed that Beijing will never allow the island to become independent and has refused to rule out the use of force if necessary...

Macau is back in the fold, Hong Kong is back to the fold, most part of China Sea is almost being controlled by mainland China, they are grabbing enough land from India! Taiwan is the missing part in the jigsaw! Xi is a hard man whose father operated with Mao! So he's like the original communist, not the pro capitalists like Hu JingTao and Deng Xiaoping who really craved for a peaceful relations with the west.. I also think that the Communist politiburu in Beijing are of the view that the Americans may not come out in full force to defend Taiwan. So it's now a question of factoring when the whole exercise won't destabilize world trade and alliances because Taiwan itself in military terms is a sitting duck when compared to the mainland..

War is not as easy as you're saying it. Though China will defeat Taiwan, but it will cost a lot of money and manpower. The possibility of USA joining the war is also very high, so far Taiwan is not the agreesor

China got round a no-live-shots agreement during a border stand-off in the Himalayas by deploying microwave weapons to “cook” enemy troops from India, a Beijing-based academic has claimed.

The Chinese military used “high-energy electromagnetic radiation” technology to effectively turn “two strategic hilltops that had been occupied by Indian soldiers into a microwave oven”, The Times reports.

The attack left the Indian troops “vomiting” and unable to stand within 15 minutes, enabling the People’s Liberation Army to “retake two strategically important hilltops in the Himalayas without any exchange of live fire”, according to Jin Canrong, a professor of international relations at China’s Renmin University.

The acadamic told attendees at a recent lecture that China didn’t publicise the victory, in late August, “because we solved the problem beautifully”.

“They [India] didn’t publicise it, either, because they lost so miserably,” he added.

The two sides have been locked in a border dispute in the Ladakh region since April, but have agreed a no-live-shots rule in a bid to avoid a repeat of the bloody 1962 Sino-Indian War

Two I guess, but they have maybe the biggest conventional weapon arsenal in the world. China can easily knock off satellites that control the GPS for instance, thereby disabling other countries ICBMs operations... What are we arguing about sef? China has not invaded Taiwan simply because of the west. Otherwise the Taiwanese stand no chance and they know.

The Chinese actually believe that they are the original civilisation in modern terms. They also feel a lot of humiliations for all that happened between them, the British and the west during the opium crises that had very lasting effects on the Chinese society, leading to the ceding of Hong Kong to Britain etc. For an ancient civilization, it was a slap across the face that they have always wanted to return! Just as they are really upset with the Japanese for all the atrocities in Nanjing and other areas during the world war.. These motivates them to invest a lot in military research. Without their strong military, they most probably would have been as hopeless and hapless as Africa today.., Because the west employed every trick in the books to destroy communist China at the early stages.. if not for the Soviet Union, China could have been balkanized..

What is really African about the governments of Togo, Benin, Cotdevoire, Mali, Niger, Gabon, Cameroon etc? French administrations by proxy! They're being run by fake head of states who need permission from France on every policy. If Nigeria had a strong military, most of these countries would have been under Nigerias sphere of influence. But today, with the way Boko Haram is messing up with Nigerias troops, none of them will ever leave the French to befriend you. Taiwan should have developed nuclear weapons back in the day. Nuclear weapon is the only deterrent against a foe like China.
