Neither.
Just go and open a shop and sell garri.

What is it with all this 'profitable' stuff? Are people planning to sell this certificate?

Just go and learn how repair eardrums cos with everybody wearing dr dre beats about and clubbing in their heads, most people would be deaf soon and you will make a profitable business.

Profitable in what sense? Pecuniary profitability or non pecuniary profitability?

Anyway, I guess both are on the same salary scale. I am not too sure sha. Nonetheless, I would choose medicine because of the respect it commands.

But if it's money you want to make in Nigeria, then don't study either. Instead, go for a four-year course and do very well there. Learn how to pass any aptitude tests and polish your spoken and written English language skills. Moreover, develop your public speaking skills, self confidence and learn to read very widely. If you can do all these things, and do them very well, you will land an exceptional opportunity that will give you 'profit'.

Medicine is not necessarily about the money, but about the passion. Everything depends on what you want, the domain of your utility map.

Many of my very smart friends opted for Medicine because they wanted and loved it, but I went for a 4-year course because I wanted to be done with schooling on time and then face the 'profit' world. Till date, I have zero iota of bitterness or regret for my action.

Go for what you feel will give you the highest payoff.

Good luck bro/sis-

GBAM! best response. I wonder why our youths are so crazy about money. Instead on focussing on your passion and how to add value to the society through youe education and skill, you start thinking of quick money and salary! Must we monetize everything? You are talking about a life-long career for goodness sake. Follow your passion and money will come afterwards. Cheers

None of them, I had a friend who graduated from OAU and was earning 40k per month as at 2008 at a private hospital. I heard he now has a clinic of his own. I think you need to set up your own practice then money starts coming in. But make sure you are choosing a career because you genuinely love it not for the money.

Lol.
Medicine has become a thing of money.
Why else will those who have graduated other courses go into nursing and the likes and ship off to the US/Canada etc. Money.
Go for consultation and pony up money whether na one minute or 10 minutes doctor observe you.
90% of the Nigerian students i know are in medicine. Over half of that 90% have nothing in their heads. When i ask what do you want to specialize in? Why? What do you want to do with the career? The passion behind picking that career? I get nothing. Either they decided to follow the herd, family orders or for the money.

Both are profitable. In Nigeria, i wouldn't know though.

^ Dentistry, a money spinner?

Why study teeth when you can study the whole body?

Hmm you know how much for fillings these days?
Not to talk of those who need dentures or braces. No be small money.
I have friends who wait till they travel home before they check their teeth because the cost is beyond what they can afford to spend like in the UK.
Besides my aunt is a dentist. See her flowing in money.

Why study the whole body if you can specialize in a specific area? Just like those who specialize in neurosurgery or surgery or pulmonology or dermatology or ENT (otolaryngology).

Maybe abroad then.

How many people visit dentists here anyways. Getting them to the hospitals sef na war, until they cant move on their own.

Volume of trade and repeat clients would imply that more doctors are richer than dentists, but yes i now agree: some well positioned dentists are making a pile too.

*ENT used to be Otorhinolaryngology when i was doing Integrated Science.

Haha.  When i was young, i went to a dentist in a public hospital.  There were alot of patients.  He did the old people's teeth for free though.
I also sometimes checked this dentist office in Abuja in Nicon.  He had a lot of patients too.  Generally though, Nigerians don't have bad teeth as much as other people but it's not as rare as many people think.
Sure the volume for doctors is much larger considering the different ailments that affects the human body.  Plus people's disregard for their health.  Doctors will keep making money.  My disgust is that some medical practitioners are not in the business of saving lives primarily but in the business of profit.

now stop making me write tongue

Right on the Otorhinolaryngology.  Having the nose checked is not funny o.

Dentistry is a 6yrs durationaL course leading to the award of BDS(bachelor of Dental Surgery).then followed by one year housemanship + one year NYSC. The BDS degre is not a classified one, unlike other course of study that award first class, secend class upper and lower...(A doctor is a doctor, inrespective)
First year involves basic sciences(phy, chm, bio, math etc). In this class, they are often regarded as pre-med student. A required persantage is allowed into the med schl upon successfl performance.
Second year(part 1) entail anatomy, phy and biochem. Succesfl performance at the professional exam lead to part 11
Third year(part 11) entails pathology and pharmacology and oral biology
Forth year entails medicine, surgery, radiology, anaesthetics, opthalmology, etc except obstetrics amd gyne
Fifth and sixth year is the dental cousre proper.

The whole course structure is so overwhelming and bulky, that i must confess. Persistent study and determination is the impetus needed. The training to become a dentist requires time sacrifice, it is the most bulky and resource tasking among all medical courses. But the gains following d dental practise upon graduatiion is worth taking the drill for.

are u a fool? have u gone tru d BDS programme b4? it is as tasking as d MBBS programme.stop talking like an illiterate. both professions r on d same salary scale if u r ignorant. some who study dentistry has a broad knowledge on oral pathology, oral medicine and even surgeries in the orofacial region than d medical colleague who thinks has a knowledge on the whole part of the body. go Google it, idiot!

I mean in My COLLEGE OF MEDICINE there are only about 20 BDs..students and 100 MBBs students..... becaz of dere less numbers dere tends to be less competition and dey get let off da hook by some grades dat if a MBBs studnt gets such grades hr or she will certainly get a ResIT..... itz not alwayz like that though....

but on d average dey ar d same thing.... offer d same courses.... write d same Examz.... Xcept for a few diffrences..

Dentistry is more tasking and bulky than Medicine.

And a little correction to one of ur statements that 20 BDS to 100 MBBS makes BDS less competitive than MBBS is wrong cuz less numbers should be more competitive than more numbers.

BDS with lesser numbers is more competitive cuz a great number of students will be fighting for just 20 slots while same great numbers will be fighting for 100 slots of MBBS.

To u which could be more competitive from the analysis?
