My Bad Experience With Nissan Murano by Bestman2021: 10:05pm On Jan 28, 2021
I opened this new moniker to share my bad experience with a Nissan Murano I bought last month.

From now on, I'll stop blaming Nigerians for being Toyota zombies.

This thread is not to tarnish the business of the seller. I don't have a problem with him. I just want to share my personal experience about using a Nissan Murano.

I bought a Nissan Murano SUV in December 2020 from a dealer in nairaland, and despite the advice of some mechanics I consulted, I foolishly went with the opinion of the dealer that those mechanics have outdated knowledge and they're dissuading me from buying a cheap SUV I'll enjoy. That once I stick to using NS2 CVT gear oil, and do regular maintenance, I won't have any problems with the car.

So I paid for the car and paid a driver to drive it down to my state for me.

It was a Nissan Murano 2005 SUV. I bought the car for 700k.

The fan belt cut thrice on its journey. Estimated journey of 6 hours took 12 hours.

When it arrived, I took it to a mechanic to change all the fan belts. It was done.

After that, I noticed the throttle could not accelerate the car. The car drags slowly and cannot climb the culvert in front of my house.

I started looking for a Nissan specialist. There was none in my state. I settled for a mechanic that had high recommendation from colleagues and friends. We changed the fuel pump, the air flow meter, the spark plugs, installed a new alternator, and and a new Korean battery 75amp.

The thruttle wasn't still working. You'd have to press the thruttle to the floor of the car before the car will start rolling.

We scanned the car and it threw up several codes.

I made enquiries and hired a mechanic from Osogbo coz they said he's good. He made estimate of things to change and took 120k to get to work.

After three days of living in my house and working on the car, he couldn't fix it.

I asked mechanics to put it up for sale but no mechanic would take it from me to put it up for sale. They said no one will buy it. It will occupy unnecessary space in their workshop because the popular belief is that Nissan Murano is not a good SUV.

I contacted the dealer I bought the car from and he assured me that it wasn't a problem, that maybe those mechanics don't have knowledge of Nissan Murano. We both shared the belief that the first mechanic who repaired the cut fan belts and changed the engine oil (Mobil 1) and gear oil for me with NS2 CVT gear oil I bought myself must have tampered with the car unnecessarily and couldn't put it back in shape after.

After three weeks of exhausting all the mechanics and rewire guys in my state and nearby states, and pouring over 200k extra into the car hoping it would work, I sold the car as scrap.

My whole point in sharing this thread is to tell car dealers to be honest when selling cars. Stop trying to convince people about cars that are difficult to maintain and the technical know-how to repair the car if it breaks down is difficult to source for.

Dealers will say every car is easy to maintain, it depends on who is using it. That's a big fat lie.

Stick your Toyota and other easy to maintain cars please. There's only trouble and poverty waiting for you in those exotic cars with fancy looks you're eying.

Also, if you can avoid Nigerian used cars, please do. Nigerian auto dealers cannot be held liable for any fault the car develops once you have paid. 99% of them are very dishonest. It doesn't even matter if you scan the car thoroughly before buying or not.

Now I have gone back and bought a Corolla and if I had known in December 2020, a Golf 4 Tokumbo or Camry Pencil Light would have been of better service to me in terms of fuel economy, reliability, availability of spare parts, etc than the Nissan Murano SUV I bought. I would still be cruising it now.

Thank you.

25% of what I bought it for. Big loss but I was happy when they told me it's been sold. That car gave me high blood pressure and constant headache.

I and him have had several honest discussions, made peace with each other and I've decided to let it be. I see his adverts in auto section all the time and I bear no grudge towards him. I only blame myself for frittering away scarce financial resources under this Buhari economy all because of trust.

You might be right to an extent (with Nissan Murano especially grin).

However, any vehicle - especially SUV - of N700k, even a Toyota might have its own challenges.

Most importantly, I would rather advise people should be realistic with themselves and stick to what their budget/pocket can afford; instead of aiming for a Benz with the cash that can't buy more than a Korope or keke marwa.

Customer is King and is always right (remember grin).

That’s what they usually do after the deed is done.
The intent abinito was to sell the lemon to an unsuspecting buyer.
Ur stand is fine but bear in mind that you have unwittingly contributed to another victim being defrauded cos he will do it again.

If the service was good, won’t he beg u for a review thread here? I rest my case

I agree with you. I beat the price down from 950k though but you're very right. It's a lesson for everyone reading the thread. Thank you.

A lot of car dealers are fraudulent and shouldn't be spared.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the terrible car.

I am a core Nissan/Infiniti user . The murano series are problematic. So far soo good most rugged Nissan product is the pathfinder 2001-2002 and Nissan xterra. The dealer too wasn't honest, that vehicle had lots of fault. You would have checked the vehicle before buying
