This story is fake news . Besides before marriage, herself Nd her husband would have used same lab. Nd if AS is really difficult to distinguish from AA, how come they got the husband own right , but hers wrong. In summary, this s just a post to gather comments |

JovialJune: Most people often confuse AA genotype will blood group A+, those with A+ blood group are often vulnerable to malaria. My blood group is A+ and I treat malaria regularly. My younger brother is B+, genotype is AA same as mine and he rarely fall sick. 1 Like 1 Share |

penocrat1:Why? The two possible outcomes is that she is AS or that she cheated. If she is AA and cheated, then it is not possible for the child to be SS. As the "father" can only be AA or AS. So the only reasonable outcome is that she is AS, and the previous test results were wrong, or forged. 1 Like |

Re: Undetected Sickle Celler by Kelvinhunta: 8:27am On Jan 31, 2021 |
You obviously don't know what you are talking! Probably she was one of the few that believe genotype can be changed by pastors which may explain y she did lab test multiple times to confirm if it will change back to her original genotype which is AS but was surprised to notice it now. That woman is a chronic Lier pragmatistm: 2 Likes |
Re: Undetected Sickle Celler by studentofTruth: 8:28am On Jan 31, 2021 |
Malawian: She doesn't have beta thalassemia per say, but she's most likely a carrier of beta thalassemia! A carrier doesn't manifest the disease but can pass it on to the offspring, which is what happened in this case. Unfortunately, the husband also passed on a sickle cell gene to the same offspring. The combination of the beta thalassemia gene and sickle cell gene caused the child to manifest SCA, even though s/he is only AS. The beta-thalassemic HbA gene cannot produce much hemoglobin, while the HbS gene produces sickled hemoglobins. |

Charlie2020: But you are contributing rubbish by not reading to understand my point. You are entitled to this your rubbish opinion, anyway. If you can believe the man is truly AS, then you can believe he's not the neighbor. |
Re: Undetected Sickle Celler by Malawian(m): 8:32am On Jan 31, 2021 |
studentofTruth:What is the difference? Bring a carrier is the same as having it. It is hereditary. |
Re: Undetected Sickle Celler by studentofTruth: 8:35am On Jan 31, 2021 |
Malawian: Read again. I explained it further. A carrier doesn't manifest the disease but can pass it on to the offspring. |

BRATISLAVA: I see you'd stop at nothing to pin the fault on the man....why? your hate for men or what? initially u said his genotype wasnt stated and he could be the one at fault....now he could be SS so its still his fault....Even if he is SS and the woman is AA as she had put it, there's still no way they'd have an SS progeny....just educate yourself and dont be a bloke....do u even need a test to know one who's SS?....most of them dont even make it to marriageable age... |
Re: Undetected Sickle Celler by sunaizo4real: 8:39am On Jan 31, 2021 |
It could be due to lab error which gave her a false results. That's why it's always good to confirm your genotype in at least two to three different lab before marriage. The mistake has been made and they have two options. It's either they divorce or continue with with the marriage. Note that it is now possible to know the genotype of a fetus in the womb as early as three months using the maternal blood. Thanks to science. It could also be a case of beta thalasemia. |
Re: Undetected Sickle Celler by Malawian(m): 8:42am On Jan 31, 2021 |
studentofTruth:That is exactly the point. Beta thalesemia is a hereditary blood disorder. It is what made the kid SS. If she didn't have it, her kid won't have come out SS. It does not matter whether she manifested it or not, she will certainly pass it down as it is hereditary. |

Re: Undetected Sickle Celler by jumpmasta(m): 8:54am On Jan 31, 2021 |
pragmatistm:Oga , you are wrong here , how can seven different labs be wrong ? The woman was probably in a denial and didn’t want to accept the AS she has always been . 3 tests from different facilities is more than enough . Not 7 . Kilgore?? |
Re: Undetected Sickle Celler by studentofTruth: 8:55am On Jan 31, 2021 |
Malawian: It is a recessive disorder, so she only has the gene (a carrier) — She's not down with the disease. |
Re: Undetected Sickle Celler by GeneralJB(m): 9:04am On Jan 31, 2021 |
I did my first test in Pry Sch :AA Second test in UNI : AA Took my sis for test someday during Uni and just tot lemme also do it again: came out as AS. I didn't want to believe the third result , so I did it again: AS. Then I finally knew I am AS. If the 4th test came out as AA, I might have concluded I was AA and the third lab was wrong. I bet in the case of the woman, one lab must have showed AS result, but out of doubt she did it again and again, and might have received another AA result which caused the confusion. |
Re: Undetected Sickle Celler by Malawian(m): 9:10am On Jan 31, 2021 |
studentofTruth:I have this disorder myself and I am AA. In fact, I only got to know of it after my big brother did his test after having an SS kid like your neighbour there. My brother is AA BTW and wife is AS. So I know about this thing a bit. Let me explain further.. The moment an AA male carrier gets with an AS or SS lady, it gets activated in their kids. This thing is part of you and it will be part of your kids and their kids. The only way to beat it as a carrier is to get with AA lady ( even if she is also a carrier) in which case, the worst case scenario is having AS kids. Your kids will still have this beta thalesemia (AA or not). I think there is a way it wipes. Read about it a few years ago. I think AA with thalesemia + AA with Thalesemia. |

Beze992:Informative, but as much as I know, both the A, B, even AB are more susceptible to malaria sef unlike the O type. B is balanced blood type anyway. I remember when I read something where scientists linked the way we behave to our blood type. A type was said to be Clever, so obvious. Happy Sunday |
