When is the right time for a student to apply?

Thank you.

LagosismyHome:

For worker visa such as Tier 2 yes since working and that visa is mandatory.... for Tier 4 when not all student work then no NIN doesn't come with BRP. You have to apply for it

I have a few questions if you have answers kindly respond.

1. Where do you suggest someone studying in University of Chester gets an accommodation.

2. Do you have an idea if I can get an accommodation at a cheaper rate </= £300 pcm?

3. Please what do I need to do before proceeding to apply for a job? (Like things to get done first - police certificate? NIN? etc? How do I go about it?)

4. Do you know anyone that is studying or have studied in Chester? (last year September intake or before then)

5. Is it compulsory I leave London immediately after isolation to school to get my BRP? Can I wait a few days?

6. How do I buy a train/bus ticket from London to Chester. What do you suggest?

7. How can one apply for a job? What sites can I view? (I know about indeed.co.uk)

8. How and where can I register my SIM card for NIMC? I was unable to get my NIN in Nigeria.

9. What network provider and bank account is best to use? (I have read about Monzo)

Thank you!

Lol just turn off the freezer for Almost 24 hours. It will help dislodge things.
Dislodging is easy now. It's proper knife to cut it up. I've searched everywhere without luck.

Ah okay. Check here https://www.nisbets.co.uk/kitchenware-and-knives/chefs-knives/_/a33-2

Then don’t let the meat defrost fully before cutting. Sometimes it’s easier. Good luck.

There is no right or wrong time , it all depends on the student. Some start the process shortly after they arrive

3. Please what do I need to do before proceeding to apply for a job? (Like things to get done first - police certificate? NIN? etc? How do I go about it?) Call to apply for your National Insurance number, as per covid, they're very hard to get hold off with workers working from home etc

4. Do you know anyone that is studying or have studied in Chester? (last year September intake or before then)

5. Is it compulsory I leave London immediately after isolation to school to get my BRP? Can I wait a few days? No, if you have a place to stay and your course has not started yet. You might have to do some initial registration in school, no?

6. How do I buy a train/bus ticket from London to Chester. What do you suggest? Like most things, you can buy these online or download the relevant apps- e.g trainline for train tickets, national Express coach. I think the main coach company suspended service last lockdown, not sure if they are back on the road. Tip book your tickets a week or some days ahead for cheaper prices

7. How can one apply for a job? What sites can I view? (I know about indeed.co.uk)

8. How and where can I register my SIM card for NIMC? I was unable to get my NIN in Nigeria.
Nimc? You can get a sim in the shop or order one online. If nigerian sim, they released some locations for the UK but not heard anyone who has done this plus there's a lockdown

9. What network provider and bank account is best to use? (I have read about Monzo). IMO Most banks here are about the same in terms of offering and customer service monzo, starling are good quick starters same with mobile networks, they're pretty much on par esp the 'mainstream' ones

Thank you!

Good luck

1. Where do you suggest someone studying in University of Chester gets an accommodation.
for accommodation I suggest staying in Liverpool, as it's a bigger city with more student jobs etc, Chester is 5£ return with a train(45min) and cheaper with a bus. And I believe accomodation is more affordable in Liverpool as well.

2. Do you have an idea if I can get an accommodation at a cheaper rate </= £300 pcm? Chester is a small/posh town.

3. Please what do I need to do before proceeding to apply for a job? (Like things to get done first - police certificate? NIN? etc? How do I go about it?)
CV tailored to the position you are applying for, NIN ( some employers will allow you to work with bro only, as there's been a lot of backlog of NIN applications. Thanks Covid-19)

4. Do you know anyone that is studying or have studied in Chester? (last year September intake or before then)
Yes
5. Is it compulsory I leave London immediately after isolation to school to get my BRP? Can I wait a few days?
IIn the past BRP not collected in due time is destroyed or returned to the home office
6. How do I buy a train/bus ticket from London to Chester. What do you suggest?
National express
Thetrainline
Search respective websites for there services to Chester

7. How can one apply for a job? What sites can I view? (I know about indeed.co.uk)
Create a new email address dedicated for job search (firstname.lastneme@provider.co.., register on job site's, and you can easily find job advert by searching for the job title on Google.

8. How and where can I register my SIM card for NIMC? I was unable to get my NIN in Nigeria.
The answer you seek is on NIMC website, be ready to pay and waste time. If you have previously done the capture and can't find the details I know a guy that can get you your NIMC slip

9. What network provider and bank account is best to use? (I have read about Monzo)
Most banks offer similar services
Have at least 2 bank accounts, one with brick and mortar, second with new generation banks

Thank you!

Hi guys. I got into the UK recently for my MSc. I'm trying to open a Halifax account. Which will be better to open between Current Account & Student Current Account?

Since you are a student then definitely student current account. Both are similar and free. The only difference if you are given over draft allowance then with student it is free and you don't pay interest but with the other Current Account Halifax will charge you interest when you use your overdraft

Hello Grace 321,I have been trying to mail you. Apparently, it appears I don't really know how to,again using my phone.

You mentioned that you have a mail of University of Chester personnel that someone can mail to and get a quick response in the student forum.. Please can you state it please?

I missed my admission because of their reluctance nature even after paying school fees. I have deferred for the next intake. However,I need the right contacts for mailing.

Thank you very much.

NIMC? This is a Nigerian organisation - I very much doubt that they operate in the UK...

If you do not have a NIN when in Nigeria then you have most likely missed your chance...

However, if you had tried to get a NIN and got a transaction slip or used a SIM card, it is not that hard to link the SIM and NIN.

You will be better asking more relevant questions to people living ordinarily in the UK - most folks are not students anymore. Try the student section or other relevant Forums (not just Nairaland) or more accurate and useful advice and info...

Alternatively, Internet searches is quite easy and useful for most things.

The Universities also have liaison officers that can help. All will also have international students committees and so on

National insurance number can be obtained from the government website. (.gov). It will take you some time and given you are a student, you may not be prioritised. Working should be less of a priority and answers can be easily obtained on the ground. Covid test - same thing; not relevant!

If someone tells you that .... ask the person to show you where on .gov official website it is stated

If it not on .gov then doesn't exist. There were some changes made due to covid allowing unlimited hours but this are strictly for Students who have work rights and are employed by an NHS trust within a listed number of professions

You get Canadian PR the moment you set foot on Canadian soil (through any of the skilled immigrant programs) and you qualify for citizenship after just 3 years. To get PR in the UK, you must have lived here for a minimum of 5 years (ILR), and another 1 year (totalling 6 years) before you qualify for citizenship.

Am looking at general living (getting a job in the uk)how easy it is to make money there compared to Canada. I want to do an msc in public health or adult nursing, also I am a married man with a kid
So I am really weighing my options. Or I should just channel my energy into immigration Canada

If you meet the eligibility requirements for Canada and you have no specific attachments to the UK, then I’d say Canada, with UK as plan B.

For a neutral, other than the UK’s nearness to Nigeria and Canada’s horrible winter (very very cold and long) I can’t think of anything the UK has over Canada.
