As an American citizen the child can enter canada and stay for 6 months without a visa as a visitor nothing more . Your child will have no status or anything , so I think it’s better you apply for your child’s visa ASAP . I knew people with PR who had kids that were American citizens the kids did not need visas to enter but there were part of the PR application and got PR .

My thing is the way this cold has shown me pepper these few days I'm beginning to have second thoughts about settling in Calgary. I don't know about Canada but Netherlands needs you to do a test 4 hours before boarding your flight in Lagos and 72 hours before arriving in Amsterdam. That's 2 tests that you will do just to transit with KLM.

It's not like BC is hot either .... Lol. It's also cold. May not be as cold as calgary or whatnot, but if the idea is to run away from the cold. Canada isn't the place to try and run away to. Lol. But standard of living is a bit high. One of the most expensive places to live in Canada is BC, Vancouver.

Specifics would probably be better(as regards what you wanna know )

You'll apply for written Authorisation. If you have family (extended) who are canadian citizens or PRs .

No need to apply for any visit visas.

Departure from Nigeria.

But if you'll be transiting through Amsterdam you'll have to do a Rapid Antigen Test at least 4hrs before your proposed flight .....

I arrived Toronto in December with 2 kids who are American. They werent mentioned in my application as I used them as home ties. I am an international student. I applied for authorization 4 them but it ddnt come out as at when we were scheduled to travel. I took d risk and travelled like thatr. We ddnt have any issues both from Nig or Canada.1 month after we are settled with my 1st who is over 5 years enrolled in School. Hope this helps. All the best

Please for those who are in Canada with kids on student visa, how did you handle medicals for the kids? did you do any sort of insurance? i dont want to wait until they fall sick before il be slammed with millions for healthcare. There is an option to include them on my own plan at the rate of 870 CAD. Is there a cheaper and equally effective alternative? I have 2 kids and they are both American citizens. Please advise

Side note, I did this recently for my sister in US (she doesn’t have COPR yet but she has a pending EE application), IRCC approved her visit visa but didn’t approve the exemption letter even when I did everything that was asked.

Because IRCC has been acting funny lately. I can't find much info on it online but one person posted on canadavisa that they applied with COPR and got a response "we can't grant you exemption because you don't have a valid travel document such as visitor visa or eTA" or something of the likes. Maybe they needed to see an actual copy or something With regards to your own situation, there was someone who had a similar issue on the visit visa thread and ended up emailing again and got the exemption for their sister.

Just to clarify about Lakehead university.

*Most universities who offer the accelerated BSN will require you pass the prerequisites as part of their application criteria. For these schools the program would normally run for 2 years.

*Lakehead university offers the prerequisites as part of your first year course, including some other core nursing courses. So, you do not need to write the prerequisites before applying. And the accelerated BSN program is 3years (or 2yrs 8months if you count it that way). I think this is fair because if you include the time you need to study for and write the prerequisites before applying to those schools that run the program for 2 years then it adds up.

*To get exemption for the prerequisites, you need to submit your course description from your previous studies. I submitted this and got exemption for statistics. I know someone who got exemption for psychology too. So, in first year I took psychology, anatomy and physiology plus other nursing courses.

* Also, in Lakehead university clinical placement starts from year one whether you're doing the 4yrs degree or accelerated degree. I don't know what is obtainable in other schools.

*The accelerated degree program in Lakehead university is quite intensive. Be ready to STUDY. A lot of students are able to work while going to school, you just have to know your own capabilities and decide how many hours you can sacrifice for work. Also, after your first year you are qualified to work as a PSW ($20.68/hr where I worked).
* About the 10 years timeline, I'm not sure what the conditions are in Lakehead university. But I finished my first degree over 10 years ago and was able to get admission.

If you haven't started yet, you can still send them your course description. Even after registering for classes you would still be given a few weeks after school starts to drop any course. I didn't even ask the school about mine, I just uploaded my course description as part of my application documents.
Lakehead is a good school if you don't mind living in NW Ontario. I heard that in bigger cities schools compete amongst themselves for clinical placement locations for their students. I don't know how true it is. But we don't have that problem here

And the school fees is about $7, 200 per year for PR/citizens.

Please I'm in a bit of a quagmire situation here and need your advice.
I just landed Calgary and in Day 5 of my quarantine and plan to hit the ground running as soon as I'm done with quarantine. But I'm trying to apply for my
i) SIN
ii) Bank account
iii) Phone line.

The issue is to get SIN, I need proof of address in my name which can be bank statements/letter or utility bill which I have none, I'm will be staying at a relatives place for the first few weeks/months.

Now the 2nd issue is to open a bank account i need a valid Canadian ID which I also have none until I get my Pr card which the immigration officer has told me can take up to 2 months to come through the mail.

So does this mean I have to wait for my Pr card before I can start applying for these things??
