Thank you for your response. Just wondering whether you know anyone that applied with their COPR?
Because IRCC has been acting funny lately. I can't find much info on it online but one person posted on canadavisa that they applied with COPR and got a response "we can't grant you exemption because you don't have a valid travel document such as visitor visa or eTA" or something of the likes. Maybe they needed to see an actual copy or something With regards to your own situation, there was someone who had a similar issue on the visit visa thread and ended up emailing again and got the exemption for their sister.

I’m sorry, I don’t know anyone that applied with COPR but my knowledge on this process is that you don’t need the Visit visa if you have COPR. But you’re right IRCC can be funny sometimes . Why not try it first and see what happens ? The processing time for visit visa in Nigeria (if you’re in Nigeria) is 8 months, that’s a long time.

Hello Guys,
Please I'm in a bit of a quagmire situation here and need your advice.
I just landed Calgary and in Day 5 of my quarantine and plan to hit the ground running as soon as I'm done with quarantine. But I'm trying to apply for my
i) SIN
ii) Bank account
iii) Phone line.

The issue is to get SIN, I need proof of address in my name which can be bank statements/letter or utility bill which I have none, I'm will be staying at a relatives place for the first few weeks/months.

Now the 2nd issue is to open a bank account i need a valid Canadian ID which I also have none until I get my Pr card which the immigration officer has told me can take up to 2 months to come through the mail.

So does this mean I have to wait for my Pr card before I can start applying for these things??

Please guys, those that have come before me, how did you do it?

Pls where did you get the info about needing Canadian ID to open a bank account. I opened my bank account with my Nigerian passport and study permit about five years ago. I also used my Nigerian passport and my auntie’s address to get my phone line. Maybe you should apply for your SIN after you have gotten your phone bill. Just wondering if things have changed, I applied for a new SIN (online)May last year and I didn’t need proof of address, they form just asked for an address.

Sorry for the wrong info. I just remembered I had to add my credit card statement to my SIN application.

Walk into any registry and apply for an Alberta ID card. All you need is your landing documents and proof of residence. A lease agreement is fine

Try opening bank account with your COPR + Nigerian passport. Nobody waits for PR card to open bank account.

Are you sure about needing proof of address to get SIN? It wasn't like that pre-COVID.

Lease agreement is proof of address with name on it. If he has that then he can get the SIN.

Okay, so I tried opening a scotia bank account online as I'm still in quarantine and can't go out and it specifically asked for Canadian ID and I assume it ll be the same for other banks. Maybe if I walked into a bank branch they will be able to shed more light on that or I need to explore other banks.
Applying for a new SIN specifically asked for proof of address. You ll need to scan a proof of address along with other identity documents for your application

I don't have a lease agreement as I will be staying with a relative for the first few months.

Okay, might have to walk into a bank after quarantine to get more information.
Applying for a new SIN online requires submitting a proof of address.

After your quarantine walk-in and apply for SIN you don't need a proof of address again and you will get it immediately.

Open bank account after your quarantine. It's an instant something. Request a statement from the teller immediately after to use as proof of address.

It’s relatively easy and about 90% guaranteed if you are a permanent resident (all things being equal).

Hello guys

Please does anyone have good information relating to landing in recent times. Been hearing some stories about Copr holders not being allowed to travel as a result of not having authorization letters. I’m about to book my flight so I need to know the current situation from whoever has information from a trusted source.

Thanks!

Recently, as at yesterday and today, Egypt Air, Ethiopian Air, KLM, Turkish Air are not allowing boarding from Abuja without AL.

So I would advise you to calm down and watch things for the next few days before you book. Also, join PostPPR groups to get real-time info.

If you need to book, quickly book ET from Lagos and move. Things can change anytime.

Hi everyone!

Good morning from Toronto. It's been a relatively mild winter over here.

Please, I've got something to do that requires that I submit my fingerprints. According to the document, the fingerprints must be gotten from my local police station or authorised fingerprint agency.

Has anyone been in this situation before? Is there any authorised fingerprint agency here in Toronto (or GTA)? What are my options?

Thanks in anticipation!
