Random post : i just realized I haven't said anything about my babies since their debut. Just like I followed sf9 from their predebut days, I've had my eyes on stayc since their predebut days and I was so happy when they finally debuted even though I just wish covid wasn't basically destroying music shows, anyway I liked their debut. It's nothing fresh or special but they sound so solid for a rookie group and I hope their agency/producers push them really hard in a good way. Stayc hwaiting!

#throwbacktuesday Part 2 (one shot)

Title : THE GATE OF NON DUALITY

Fun fact : this is the 3rd jeon ik ryung drama special I watched

A lady (jir) walks into a Buddhist temple, she goes in, greets a monk, sits before him and says "as you told me when I was young, you turned out as I've always imagined". Monk says "you were just a little girl then, time flew like an arrow, you never once came to visit". She says but I did come here as you asked. He says since muyeon died, 7 memorial services have been held, I never thought you would come. She says I came because you asked, I have no reason to attend his memorial service, no good can come from a broken relationship can it? He says don't say that. He puts a notebook in front of her, she asks what it is? He asks her if she can't remember, she says she can't, he asks her to open the book. Turns out it's her old notebook, she asks how it's there?, he asks if she can see his writing in the book? She smiles and says yes, you used to correct my mistakes, I bothered you a lot. I totally forgot about it, how come you have it? He says muyeon left it for you. She asks he did? She drops the book and says I have no reason to accept anything from him. Monk says before he passed away, he asked me to give it to you, so it's a keepsake. He left nothing behind, only this.

Flashback to jir as a kid (played by lye) her name is haejeong and she's sitting in front of the temple looking down the road, an older boy (I'm guessing the monk as a boy) calls out to her "who are you waiting for? You'll get in trouble if the monk finds you" she says it's none of your business, you go ahead and attend. The boy starts beating a big drum, I guess he's sort of learning to be a monk cos his head is clean shaven. He asks her to come join him or she'll get scolded.

A lady comes to pray at the temple, while a monk chants behind her, haejeong spies on them, after her prayers, the lady goes about greeting the monks and a nun that takes care of the temple.

Haejeong goes into the kitchen where the nun is trying to start a fire and asks "almeoni, did the lady leave?" almeoni says yes. Haejeong runs after the lady screaming ma'am, she catches up to her and holds her hand, lady throws Haejeong to the ground and says "never cling to anyone" (me:ehn, is this her mom?), the lady picks her up, tells her to get inside and leaves.

The boy monk (his name is deukwu) steals some food that was brought to the temple and takes it to Haejeong to eat (awwnn lol) they get caught and a monk asks them to kneel and raise their hands, he tells them that the punishment of stealing continues for 3 lifetimes. He says they'll stay without dinner and they should do 108 bows then write the 3 times table and submit to him.

Haejeong is in a room with almeoni, she's writing what I can only refer to as Buddhist commandments(lol I don't know shi!t about Buddhism so I'm lost), almeoni tells her to go to bed cos if the elder monk sees the light on in their room, he'll be mad. Haejeong brags "almeoni I know all the letters, I enjoy writing". Almeoni says you must take after your father. Haejeong says she needs to use the toilet but almeoni has fallen asleep so deukwu escorts her to the toilet, holding a lamp for her outside the door. She apologizes for disturbing him in the middle of the night and says it's cos she's scared thinking about the punishment that lasts for 3 lifetimes. She promises to escort him if he ever needs to poo at midnight (aigoo). She finishes and he piggybacks her back to the house. She says you'll teach me how to write difficult letters right? He agrees.

Haejeong is sitting in front of the temple when a man(jeg) comes in, he's dressed like a monk but his hair isn't completely shaved so I'm not sure what he is, she watches him as he looks all around the temple. Almeoni comes out excitedly saying muyeon, how have you been? They exchange pleasantries and he says he'll go pray and give his respects to the abbot. He goes in. Almeoni asks haejeong if she saw him, haejeong says yes, almeoni says do you know who that is? That's your father muyeon. (me:why is this baby blessed with parents that don't care).

Everyone is praying inside while haejeong stands outside, after prayers almeoni asks her why she stood outside instead of coming in, she asks if she recognizes her dad, haejeong says no, almeoni says your dad brought you here and became a monk so you have to respect him like you respect the elder monk. Haejeong says my dad brought me here? Almeoni says yes, he used to be a monk, but he met your mother and had you and left home again.
It's dinner time, there are 2 tables set, muyeon and elder monk on 1, haejeong, almeoni and deukwu on the other, haejeong helps almeoni in serving muyeon and elder monk, muyeon doesn't even look at her (aigoo).

Muyeon and elder monk are discussing, monk asks muyeon if he's feeling better, muyeon says yes, monk says you'll fall sick if you are too hard on yourself, you'll be able to learn once you know how to control yourself. Why don't you stay here one season, Is it because of haejeong?

Haejeong notices that her dad's shoes are dusty, she takes it washes it and goes to keep in front of his room. His door opens and she runs to hide, he comes out and notices her hiding and peeking at him. He wears the shoe and is walking past her, she stammers father, he looks at her and smiles, she smiles back, he leaves.

She runs excitedly to deukwu and almeoni, she goes oppa, muyeon smiled at me, almeoni I called him father and he smiled at me. Almeoni says that's nice but from now on address him properly call him monk, she says I will.

Muyeon runs away, haejeong is worried that he's left her, she refuses to sleep and sits outside at night waiting for him. Almeoni tells her to come in that muyeon will come back after praying all night.

The next day muyeon is in the woods praying and bowing repeatedly, he's worn out but still continues till he's almost fainting. Deukwu and haejeong run to him begging him to stop, he says he's fine, he tells deukwu to take haejeong away and asks that no one disturbs him until his praying is over.

At the temple haejeong refuses to eat but stands outside all day waiting for muyeon. Later she goes to where he's praying and he's passed out, she runs to get help, the monks succeed in bringing muyeon home and reviving him, his forehead is bloody due to the number of times he bowed. Haejeong keeps crying.

The next day she's trying to cook pine nut porridge for muyeon and everywhere is a mess, almeoni comes and says she'll do the cooking, haejeong doesn't let her, almeoni says I'll tell them you made it don't worry I'll make it well.

At breakfast, almeoni serves muyeon the porridge and says haejeong is now a big girl, she made this, how did she know pine nut is good for troubled stomach. Muyeon doesn't taste the porridge, haejeong is sad. Almeoni tries to console her by saying muyeon doesn't like pine nuts.

Muyeon tells deukwu not to let haejeong near him, if there's a message for me, you deliver it not her. Elder monk tells muyeon "I told you controlling yourself isn't easy. You have to develop a strong mind. Haejeong's mother wants to take her" (me:praise the lord). Muyeon says let her mother do as she pleases

The next day muyeon is packing his things to leave for deeper monk studies, haejeong goes to him and says almeoni said you'd be here till autumn. He ignores her and leaves, she cries and runs after him, he doesn't look back.

Back at the temple, haejeong loses her appetite and doesn't finish her meal,

The elder monk scolds her telling her she will end up in a fiery pit with starving ghosts, her belly will be big and round and her throat will be as narrow as the eye of a needle and no matter how much she eats, she'll come back in her next life as a starving ghost. He tells her to write her Buddhist commandments or whatever and meditate on them if she doesn't want to be born as a starving ghost, he asks how many times she'll write it, she says 6, he says if she writes more the goddess of mercy would be pleased and grant her wishes, and all the sadness she feels will go away.

A year later, haejeong's mom comes to the temple and says she wants to take her, the elder monk asks if she can raise haejeong now. She says yes.

Haejeong is sitting down sadly and deukwu asks her if she isn't happy to see her mom, he says she should be glad cos she has parents, his parents died when he was little and muyeon and almeoni raised him, she says I won't see muyeon again if I go with my mom right? He tells her to become a good person and write her commandments and her wish will come true.

It's time for her to leave with her mom. She goes to give her last respects to the elder monk. He tells her she'll be prettier than a lotus flower awwnn almeoni, deukwu and haejeong all cry as she's leaving, almeoni gives her some pocket money (lol I'm crying)

A few years later, haejeong is a teenager in the city, her mom runs a local hostess bar and has girls that work with her. Mom is complaining about how haejeong doesn't have respect for her, doesn't eat and is always praying. She asks why haejeong followed her. Haejeong says I didn't follow you, I didn't even say I'd come (me:lol true). Mom says she found haejeong's savings and asks her why she's saving that large amount of money. Haejeong says I don't want to live here, I'll go back to almeoni and the temple. Mom screams and starts to beat haejeong while her girls try to stop her "so you'll go back to the temple like your father, do you think your father would welcome you if you cut your hair and become a monk? He cut all ties with us".

At night, haejeong runs away from home back to the temple, almeoni doesn't recognize her at first, she later does and welcomes her. The elder monk is now very old and sick but he's also glad to see haejeong. Haejeong asks of deukwu, almeoni says he went out and would be back at night. She tells haejeong she can't play with him or call him oppa as she used to cos he's now a monk. She tells her muyeon came to visit a few days ago but he's left. Haejeong asks if she can continue to live at the temple. The elder monk tells her to endure, he says no matter how tough it gets she should let her heart shine and she'll be alright, she smiles.

Haejeong goes back home the next day, apparently her mom stayed up all night and didn't even open shop. The mom tells her to study first, get older and return to the temple so that her father would be able to follow his path. A person who lives as he wishes is a happy person, compared to me, your father's a happy man, though my life's a mess, I wanted to raise you like a flower, I'm sorry, it's all my negative karma.

Back to the present, adult haejeong tells adult deukwu, for the first time she didn't punish me that day and she talked about my father monk muyeon, it was only a few words but after hearing that I felt sorry for my mom. When I was in the 12th grade...

Flashback to haejeong in mourning, she came to the temple, almeoni is now super old, she consoles haejeong over the death of her mom and says the mom must have had too much Karma. She tells her the elder monk also died and muyeon is now in charge of the temple. She goes in to pay her respects to muyeon, he's still a bi!tch to her, he asks almeoni to give her food so she can go back home. Even almeoni is surprised. Haejeong says mom died, don't you want to know how she died? He tells her to eat and go before it gets dark. She gets up in anger and says mom only thought of you till she died, she told me not to go near you incase I interfered, you should lead her soul to heaven since she's dead. You pray for others' souls to go to heaven, why abandon her soul dead or alive? She starts crying don't you feel sorry for her? This meditation is pointless, she leaves.

Back to the present deukwu tells her muyeon told me you came at that time, deukwu says you used to respect him so much when you were little, now you want to cut ties with him? She says that's what he wanted, he was so cold to me even though I was only 7 years old, it was foolish of me to think he'd pray for my mom's soul to rest in peace. Deukwu asks her to open the remaining pages of the book, muyeon had continued writing from where she stopped. She asks why?

Flashback to muyeon discussing with deukwu, he says he decided to cut off ties with everything but it was hard having haejeong there, there was a day she shined his shoes and called him father and he smiled and all his efforts were destroyed by that smile so he had to leave to prepare more fully. Many years passed and even when she came back to tell him about her mother's death, he could see that she was happy to see him, so he got scared that what if everything goes back to square one, once again, I pushed her away. I met her only twice but I pushed her away because I couldn't control myself. I struggled all my life meditating but I was deceiving the world and myself as well.

Back to the present, deukwu says that was 6 months before he died. She says I always thought he was stern and distant (me:he was!). Deukwu says after that he only copied your writings and sat at the gate every evening.

Next scene she attends muyeon's memorial service. She burns the pages of the notebook. As she's leaving the temple, deukwu asks why she burnt the book, she says that's what muyeon would have wanted, to overcome possessiveness. Deukwu asks about her family, apparently she's now a mother of 2 kids, he tells her her family is always welcome to visit the temple whenever they want. They say their goodbyes. She leaves. The endeu.

I would rate this 4/10.

So I really don't have much to say about this. I don't think I fully grasped or understood the drama. I know next to nothing about Buddhism and I found it hard to accept some of what was portrayed in the drama. I don't want to knock down anyone's religion but I'm just like "did this guy really throw away his daughter to focus on being a monk", I get the whole abandoning earthly possessions thing but I think he was too extreme, and I know the drama also showed that but I'm not sure if they're showing it in a positive or negative light anyway what do I know. Goodnight!

Anyhoo: A brief opinion on She Would Never Know

The main leads are gorgeous, let's get that out of the way! The drama is definitely not a fave of mine but there are some plotlines I am heavily interested in! The sister and the chef (I suspect her husband is gay and is running things with the chef, my unfamiliar family sturvs), the eldest sister and the Chaebol, I love how he's so soft for her! I actually really appreciate his character, if all kdrama chaebols were like him, they won't have such a bad rep.

His sister on the other hand is the definition of an evil, entitled witch. She used her committing suicide to trap the BM....Nah, he's shitty but she's something else. Tueh.

TBH, I'm not feeling any chemistry between Rowoon and WJA. Are they cute together in their scenes? YESSS. Am I feeling their relationship? Nope. Not at all. Not even a wink of chemistry. But they're cute and my faves so they get a pass.

Rowoon's shouldersssss I dieeeeeee. The man is so fine, tufiakwa.

I really want the chef to be in love with the sister and not her husband and for them to have an affair....just because the chef is sizzling and I like drama. Hu hu. But like I said, I'm getting Chef*Hubby vibes so far.

I'd rate the drama a 5/10 so far and I'm being this generous because of hot men and few interesting plotlines.
