Mods indulge me, in spite of the controversial thread title, and don't pull this thread with an important message for all Nigerians.

Nigerians youths, let us trend the hash tag #DisarmEveryFulaniHerdsman and even March relentlessly against the Senate till we get our way. This singular act will vastly improve the security of lives across Nigeria and end Fulani and herdsmen brigandage of our Nation.

The Senate is inspecting a bill to create a commission against the illegal use of firearms. We must all support this, not lose focus and ensures it becomes a reality.

Anyone can inspect my past post to Note I have made it clear Fulani herdsmen, mainly illiterates who have never had any psychological profiling, are not supposed to carry assault rifles because they are committing a criminal offence against the firearms laws of Nigeria which permits Nigerians with legally obtained gun licence to own only a pump action rifle.

The problem for us in the South began when we casually accepted this situation, sponsored no doubt by wicked and lawless men, and we said nothing while Fulanis grazed their cows across the South carrying guns that are illegal and criminal for them to have.

Southerners, let us work smarter instead of harder and more painfully. Instead of playing the game the way the anarchists want to then be killing each other savagely, let us insist on the birth of this commission to supervise the official disarming of Fulani Herdsmen and every Nigerian carrying firearm illegally. We must consolidate on the good result and awareness the resistance of the South lately, against Fulani brigandage, has delivered.

Senators, include the Senate President, now agree that proliferation of illegal firearm is the main cause of insecurity in Nigeria as I have insisted tirelessly.

Let us move to end it. With an official stand the FG cannot stop, we can all move everyday to disarm any Nigerian, Fulani or otherwise, Carrying a banned or illegal firearm in public. God bless Nigeria. Good people who just want to live a peaceful life and go about their legal business will prevail if we all act.

Take time to read about this bill. Let us not allow it to be killed by anyone however powerful. Enough of using a sledgehammer to kill an ant which only results in Nigerians fighting and killing each other while the wicked folks illegally arming Fulanis and other criminals get away with their evil. Let us all insist #DisarmEveryFulaniHerdsman.

In his lead debate, sponsor of the Bill, Senator Smart Adeyemi, All Progressives Congress, APC, Kogi West said that the functions of the Commission when established will among others include: identifying sources and routes of small arms and ammunitions; identifying those involved in the illicit trade; and providing harmonization of intelligence and information collection.

Senator Adeyemi said that the proliferation of small arms and weapons is a phenomenon responsible for destabilizing the peace, development and threatening the national security of some countries in Africa.

Disarm herdsmen is better. Disarm every Fulani is completely wrong and counterproductive.

Okay. Good point. All the same it is something Nigerians need to take seriously not foolish and ill-advised siege at Lekki Tollgate and other distractive issues.

If the nation unilaterally agrees to promote the message it is illegal for any Nigerian to carry guns civilians are not allowed to have then we will be on the way to solving the challenge of insecurity.

Lol. This is a topic not concerning ethnic, religious or political affiliations. It is call asking for every Nigerian adult or child to be made officially aware it is illegal for Fulani herdsmen or any Nigerian to carry firemen they are prohibited by law to have .

It is a progressive call. Why are you against it? Are you a killer or do you love the death of innocent folks we are seeing across Nigeria?

Or are you one of those enemies of Nigeria who will prefer to go and March mischievously at Lekki Tollgate whereas you are happy to turn your back on something that can promote the peace, unity and security of Nigeria?

I have eaten . A fine and excellent breakfast actually and I am ready to talk to you if you wont run away.

Northern elected leaders and administrators have made the illegal arming of Fulani herdsmen defacto accepted policy rather than outlaw it or move against it aggressively.

All Nigerians who are peace-loving, including Fulanis themselves, must now insist on the de jure application of the law which is that it is illegal for Fulani herdsmen to carry guns let alone sophisticated assault rifles.

Unless you have a sensible response to the above then I urge you to go and find some food and not bother me again with your idiocy.

De facto means a state of affairs that is true in fact, but that is not officially sanctioned. In contrast, de jure means a state of affairs that is in accordance with law (i.e. that is officially sanctioned)

I dont understand his animosity. Disarming Fulani herdsmen and all othe Nigerians carrying guns they are prohibited from having would even help them immensely in the North against banditry , insurgency, general criminality and wanton killing of innocent people.

It is obvious many wicked and evil people back and enjoy the insecurity we are witnessing.

Ban on open grazing is important and one of the solutions required but the part in bold in your response is ignorant and naive with all due respect. Do you know that Nigeria is responsible for 70% of the illegal guns in circulation in West Africa?

You and other Nigerians may not know the problem we are dealing with over the proliferation of arms but it is a serious issue behind most of our security challenge. Trying to outlaw it and expose its sponsors, or at least shame them into action, is very important for the security of Nigeria. World agencies have warned us non-stop. We should act now before it is too late and we descend into the sort of terrible ethnic strife seen in Rwanda that the world Hope's never to witness again .

United Nations (UN) has raised alarm over the illicit proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in Nigeria with over 350 million and 70 per cent of estimated 500 million of such weapons said to be circulating in West Africa domiciled in the country.

Ms. Olatokunbo Ige, director of United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC), stated this at the National Consultation on Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) in Abuja, organised by the Agency and Presidential Committee on Smalls Arms and Light Weapons (PRESCOM).

Ige said that the country is awash with illicit weapons, which have found its way into unauthorised hands on non-state actors that are threatening the existence of the country, as well lives and properties of the people.

She said: “The illicit proliferation of SALW has had a dramatic impact on peace and security in Africa, threatening not only the existence of the state, but also the livelihoods of millions of people across the continent.

“Nigerian is one of the countries that is experiencing some of the most devastating effects of the proliferation of SALW as a result of spill over effect of the recent crises in Libya, and Mali as well as unresolved internal conflicts in different parts of the country especially in the North East, Niger Delta and Southern regions.”

“While reliable data on the numbers of these weapons circulating freely in the country is unavailable, analysts have in recent times estimated that of the about 500 million weapons that may be circulating in West Africa in 2010, some 70 per cent of these could be found in Nigeria,” she added.

She warned that “as alarming as these figures seem, it is very clear that if left unchecked, this scourge will not only jeopardise the developmental gains achieved over the last 50 years, but will also impede the nation’s capacity to achieve its developmental targets and therefore, negatively impact on the future generations”.

Lol,..you are the one swimming in naivete and ignorance . When u outlaw and seriously enforce no roaming around or camping with cows in bushes and forests,u have restricted the movement and easy access to every nook and crannies of these vermins. You wont need chasing shadows in the name of disarming herdsmen. Simple, dont roam into this place. How many security men do you have to always search and ransack their abodes. Plus they will be forced to be more careful in concealing their arms. What happens then when security is lax. How can u stretch our thin and already overstretched security in searching tens ot thousands of herder groups and their hideouts when u can simply restrict them

Below is the firearms act of Nigerian. Crystal clear in its instruction. Perhaps someone needs to provide Bala Mohammed and other Northern political leaders with a copy of what is written below next time they make excuses for herdsmen who should be serving a minimum jail time of ten years..

GUNS AND LICENSES: NIGERIAN FIREARMS ACT
By Legalnaija 5:25 PM

The Nigerian Fire Arms Act (1990) provides that no person shall have in his possession or under his control any firearm or ammunition except such person has a license from the President or from the Inspector General of Police.

It states further that no license or permit to carry fire arms should be granted to applicants under the age of seventeen; persons who are of unsound mind; persons not fit to have possession of the firearm in question on account of defective eyesight;
persons of intemperate habits or anyone who has during the previous five years been convicted of an offence involving violence or the threat of violence.

Except for licensed fire arm dealers, it is unlawful for anyone to buy or sell fire arms or ammunitions. The same goes for fire arm manufacturing, only the Inspector – General of police can grant a license to make and repair fire arms in Nigeria, however such persons must be duly documented and registered.

Anyone who has in their possession unlicensed firearms; who imports or exports firearms or ammunition other than through prescribed ports or who manufactures, assembles, or repair of firearms and ammunition unlawfully shall be liable to a minimum sentence of ten years imprisonment.
