The Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (retd.), says it is the responsibility of every citizen to be at alert amid the insecurity in Nigeria.

Magashi said this while addressing journalists as seen in a video posted on Twitter by AIT.

He said people should show that they are not cowards by defending themselves, pointing out that the operations of bandits are sometimes carried out with a few rounds of ammunition.

He said, “It is the responsibility of everybody to keep alert and to find safety when necessary. But we shouldn’t be cowards.

“At times, the bandits will only come with about three rounds of ammunition, when they fire shots everybody runs. In our younger days, we stand to fight any aggression coming for us.


“I don’t know why people are running from minor things like that. They should stand and let these people know that even the villagers have the competency and capabilities to defend themselves.

“Our own duty is to ensure that no Nigerian is hurt, and we are capable of protecting the integrity of this nation and we’ll continue to do it even though we are so stretched.”

When asked if Nigeria should permit citizens to carry arms, Magashi said, “Even in the developed countries, they are still debating on it, whether to continue or not.

“But I don’t advise Nigeria to start issuing firearms for personal use.”

I was saying this on the other thread where travellers were abducted people were saying I watch too many Hollywood movies.

The truth is, lotta these kidnappers folks are not strong as we think in the Real sense of it. I remembered my Dad once defending I and my elder sis when we were once kids he practically took down two outta those armed robbers and the vigilantes handled the rest while the third fled. Asking people to take on these terrorists and bandits on the assumption that they may have few bullets and could be resisted is stup!d.

Community police is a step in the right direction but arming the citizens is the best way. It will end insecurity and terrorism will fizzle out. In fact, you will see a change in governance as every one would be on their toes. No one will tell the politician not to misbehave.

And yes I've had gun aimed at me several times but the first thing that comes to my mind is not fear but How To get me outta that situation.
