According to a Source who prefers to remain anonymous, the people had to run towards the river to escape attack adding that in the process, many of them drowned.

“Right now, we don’t know how many drowned. we are suspecting the bandits are still around. We cannot confirm the number of casualties now.”

Efforts to get the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abiodun Wasiu were fruitless as he didn’t pick his phone nor replied to text messages.

Just yesterday a good discussion nearly turned violent because of rumors of a payment of N800m to bandits.

If a country should burn, it is mockery it has to be on account of lies and fables

Police Invite Ondo Leaders To Abuja Over Alleged Killing Of Cow, Community Kicks

The leaders said it was surprising that the police were pursuing supposed killers of cows when it had yet to unravel those who killed their traditional ruler, the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Isreal Adeusi
.

Leaders of Ifon in the Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State have kicked against the invitation of their elders by the police over the alleged killing of a cow.

The leaders said it was surprising that the police were pursuing supposed killers of cows when it had yet to unravel those who killed their traditional ruler, the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Isreal Adeusi.

They said the leaders invited were among those temporarily holding forth following the death of their Oba.

The late Oba Adeusi was killed by suspected herdsmen around Elegbeka on Ifon-Owo Highway on November 26, 2020.

President of the Ifon Development Union, Chief Femi Awani, who spoke at a briefing in Ifon said the police invitation was based on a petition by one herdsman, Abdullahi, who claimed one of his cows was killed last month.

He mentioned the leaders invited to include Chief Ekon, Chief Olijewu, Hon Saliu Omotoso, Hon Olaniyi Eni-Olotu, and Chief hunter of Ifon.

Awani said another petition by one Alhaji Usman prompted the police to deploy men from the FIB Tactical Command Squad to ensure the invited leaders left for Abuja to answer the petition.

Awani noted that the thrust of the petition to the Force headquarters was not only about the killing of a cow but included alleged criminal conspiracy, a threat to life, and attempted kidnapping.

He said the content of the letter inviting the leaders was at variance with the verbal narration of the policemen from Abuja.

Awani appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, to investigate the authenticity of the letter which they saw as a ploy to intimidate them and forestall attempts at protecting their land.

He wondered if the petition was not a ploy to release some herders who were arrested for kidnapping around the community.

He said, “Once we are sure the letter is authentic, we will go to Abuja. We are law-abiding citizens. The allegations are weighty. It is a painful thing to us. We would have been protesting but we are a peaceful people.”

The Aremo of Ifon, Adegoke Adeusi, said it was shameful that the police could not arrest killers of the Ifon monarch, but were chasing after supposed killers of a cow.
He asked, “Who is to be arrested? Is it the killers of our Oba or those alleged to have killed a cow?

”It is shameful. It is disgraceful. I was shocked when I heard that four of our leaders have been invited to come and answer for the killing of a cow. It is a total injustice.

“An Oba was killed and they are now talking about a cow.”

In the same vein, a leader in the community, High Chief Joseph Ayayi, said the place mentioned by the petitioner that the cow was killed belonged to another community.

”Where they killed the cow is not our land. They said we should go to Abuja to explain. We do not know anything about the killing of a cow.

”There was no fight. When they investigated and saw that the place is not our land, they invited our hunters, but the herder could not identify them as those responsible.

“A month later, they invited us and gave us petition forms to fill. Our names were not in the petition, but they gave us forms to fill,” he stated

Bandits strike again, abduct Katsina monarch, 13 others

ON FEBRUARY 21, 2021 7:38 AMIN NEWS

Amid anxiety over the fate of abducted students of Government College, Kagara, Niger State, bandits struck again in neigbourbing Katsina State, abducting a monarch and 13 others in two separate attacks.

The gunmen were said to have kidnapped the 91-year-old traditional ruler of Kunduru community on Friday night.

Sunday Vanguard learned that the victim who is the Galadiman Kunduru is the father of the Secretary to Katsina State Government, Alhaji Kasimu Ibrahim.

The monarch was whisked away by the gunmen who stormed the town on motorcycles

One of his children who pleaded for anonymity, confirmed the incident to Sunday Vanguard yesterday, adding that the incident had already been reported to the Police.

The nonagenarian was said to be having health challenges.

Sources also said the abductors had not made any contact with the family.

As of press time, the Permanent Secretary could not be reached as phone calls to his mobile phone were not replied to.

When contacted, spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, Superintendent of Police, Gambo Isah, said he was not aware of the incident.

“ I am not aware of that incident,” he told Sunday Vanguard.

In a related development, gunmen kidnapped 13 travellers in Faskari Local Government Area of the state.

Isah also confirmed the incident, saying the bandits struck at 10: am on February 17, 2021.

He explained that the victims were travelling to Funtua from Mai Gora to collect loans from a bank provided through a family support programme.

The Police spokesman said three persons later escaped from the bandits.

He added that the Police were making efforts to ensure that abductees were rescued alive.

According to him, “it’s not true that seventeen women going for a wedding were abducted.

“What happened was that thirteen women from Mai Gora were travelling to Funtua for this family support loan facilities from a bank, somewhere before Dan Rimi village, these bandits came from the bush and shot at the tyres of the vehicle they were traveling in, forcing the driver to stop. Three women escaped while the remaining nine and the driver were abducted.

“We are making serious efforts to ensure that the nine women and the driver who are still in captivity are rescued alive. The incident happened at 10 a.m.”

Residents said the bandits were yet to contact any of the families of the victims as of press time.

Former aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, Pastor Reno Omokri, has expressed concern over the country’s security situation.

In a brief statement, Omokri asked how possible it could be for a popular Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi to locate and take photographs with bandits and herdsmen, whereas the Nigerian Army and Police could not identify their various locations.

Disclosing this on Saturday via his Facebook handle, Omokri said that the Army and Police can locate easily the Eastern Security Network, ESN that doesn’t kill but were unsuccessful to locate herdsmen and bandits that have been kidnapping, raping and killing innocent Nigerians.

He said it surprises him that the likes of Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle and Aminu Masari of Katsina State had negotiated with bandits, yet Nigerian soldiers and police could not find their locations.

Read his statement below:

“How is it that Sheikh Gumi can jump into forests in Zamfara and Niger, and locate the whereabouts of bandits and killer herdsmen, but both the HQ Nigerian Army and Nigerian police can’t locate and exterminate them?

“But they can locate and determine ESN that don’t kill. Sheikh Gumi took photos with bandits. Governor Masari held negations with them. Governor Mutawale holds meetings with them.

It seems everyone has access to bandits and killer herdsmen, except our Army and Police. Those ones only know how to find and kill ESN!”

Idiotic comment. Planes crash everywhere. It is a result of stepped-up operations.
Nigeria Air Force safety record is one of the best in the third world.

If you can't respect the highly trained young officers doing high risk jobs whose lives we just lost then shut up OR leave your low risk office job to do something interesting for a change
