Good day All, Please which inverter model (24V) is pocket friendly apart from Hybrid inverters (Axperts models) that can charge Lifepo4 battery. I need to get a stop gap for my MPP Solar hybrid inverter that have refused to come up or show any light for some days now. The inverter is less than 3 months old and I have contacted MPPSolar support. Thank you. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by NiyiOmoIyunade(m): 2:38pm On Feb 23, 2021 |
Yet another Axpert bites the dust! I truly have been unable to trust this entire family of hybrids to perform under demanding conditions. I am looking right now for a basic and reliable inverter in the 5kw range to play with and test out some new ideas but keep coming up blank. I already ruled out all Axpert and Mustpower types and their many clones ebocoms: 1 Like |

Reason I'm looking for something different from Axpert family before buying another one. NiyiOmoIyunade: |

ebocoms: Yet there are many that are still running theirs for years. Ofcourse we can't expect axperts to perform like the high end Victrons, Deye etc just as they are not in same price range either. Having used both MPP and Deye I will still recommend them depending on customer packet. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by NiyiOmoIyunade(m): 4:08pm On Feb 23, 2021 |
I think they are okay within a particular price range - I just do not think they are robust enough to trust mission critical work to. The Axperts seem to have a particular fondness for spoiling easily and needing a board change. The Steca I last tried in 2020 just randomly started drifting on DC measurements and ultimately gave up the ghost. Mustpowers are similar in that the control board ultimately fails and you lose a key piece of functionality. You generally have to change the whole board too. Heck leave the inverter idle for 6 months and you may find that the board has already failed on its own. I very rarely hear that an SMA or Magnum or Victron inverter failed. When that happens you can usually clearly pinpoint the user error or catastrophic event that caused failure. They simply do not fail under normal (ab)use. ojeysky: |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by adrusa: 7:48pm On Feb 23, 2021 |
ojeysky: But your MPP also had a problem at a time and you had to replace the board. I still believe that the best inverters to buy are the first tier makers like Outback (I have a 7-year old outback), Victron, Schneider etc. I currently have a Felicity hybrid running for several months, but I bought it with low expectations. But, it has been fine so far. Caveat: It is only inverting, rarely charging with electricity and never connected solar panels to it. |

So, how does one know which inverter is an axpert variant? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojeysky(m): 11:42pm On Feb 23, 2021 |
adrusa: That's right at least I have an idea of the cause and thanks to MPP replacement warranty. Nevertheless those "first tier" are sure thing so long as the user's budget is sure as well 1 Like |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojeysky(m): 6:50am On Feb 24, 2021 |
Peterlove11: Was using a relatively aggressive equalisation on LFP, made the BMS react in a way that impacted the inverter. It was after I learnt you don't equalise LFP or at least not at high voltage and not prolonged. |

My Oga. Finally we have your confession A battery disconnect due to BMS HVD limit reached should not kill an inverter. There are many scenarios where inverter could be doing heavy work and the DC side disconnects due to low battery, DC breaker trip due to overload e.t.c The inverter should recover from these gracefully. I know the tolerances on the internals for these Axpert types are relatively poor although they keep making improvements - a capable person can also perform hardware upgrades - beefier capacitors, changing the fan e.t.c ojeysky: 1 Like |

NiyiOmoIyunade: It's not the first time I mentioned it as a possible cause Oga. I wasn't home when it happened but I know I had an aggressive equalisation plan set-up and it's the only thing I know was newly introduced before I left. The sign of a burnt section on the board also further makes me gave the impression.
Yes it shouldn't as indeed I have had battery disconnect due to HV on the same MPP many times without issues, just that the one that cause issue was with equalisation. Would a victron have done a better job maybe. However that's not the point, I have only stated what happened to mine. If any axpert user wants to prove me wrong they can continue to use equalisation for their LFP else they learn from my experience. |

Haha! Have you been there yourself? Wisdom is part of valour!!! I think the long distance from Akwa Ibom to Borno is the issue or also the sun there is too much ; it might crack solar panels if installed there. I am sure it's not due to the bullets or RPGs that might be flying around............, or am I missing something? Penuelseun: 1 Like |
