CONTRACTOR APPRECIATION: Looking for a great contractor for your roofing project? I'm happy to recommend Imran Roofing on +234 808 531 0359 call/WhatsApp.

He just concluded mine and I'm super buzzing for the final outlook.

He's literally restored my trust in contractors in Nigeria. I say this has one who's been dealt a bad hand so many times by them simply because I'm not in Nigeria.

I was drawn by his reviews on Nairaland; with emphasis on his trustworthiness, openness and good customer relations and decided to a chance. And boy what a man he is. I sent him money without even knowing him and just as we agreed he delivered.

He kept me updated--calls, pictures, voicenotes--through out the process and I felt really valued.

I'm super chuffed. Continue the good work Imran @adesegun121. Cheers
Thanks so much for your patronage

I haven't seen what you are talking about. Do you mind sharing some samples.

These building terminologies are killing me grin. Do you have a another view of the wrought iron pic? Would like to know how it actually looks like.

And do you have a welder you work with in Lagos you can link me to or this is something any local welder should be able to use? Obviously novice questions I know.

- Here are few wrought iron designs by NextHome.

- Local welders can handle this for you. I also have welder who can handle this at your site

Good observation.

The rationale behind that is that block work PIERS are expected to be used at interval along the girth of the fence and not Reinforced columns.

There's only provision for the 3 columns, of which the gate will be anchored.

n3xt:

Nice quote but I think you should look at the provision made for 12mm reinforcement.

At 3m interval, you’d require more than 15 columns on a 1800sqm land. 1 length of reinforcement will manage to give you 1 column.

You should also look at the amount set aside for iron bending and carpentary. I don’t see the OP spending anything less than 120k on both if he’s a bargain-hunter.

It’s like you omitted the cost of casting the almost 60 columns that the land will require.

This has to be pointed out because if the client receives a quote from someone like me who’d budget for reinforced columns and coping, he won’t feel I’m cheating him because his QS quote is cheaper.

I hope you understand sir.

______

Even my 1.5m high fence do have reinforced column. I believe in doing it right the first time.

Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by QSFemi(m): 10:53am On Feb 25, 2021
Your points are valid to the extent of the specifications and scope you used.

Same as mine.

However, this estimate was presented in a layman's format for ease of understanding for the client.

In a firm bill of quantity, all these concerns about specifications and scope of work will be duly spelt out.

I understand your take because most clients are more interested in the total estimated cost than the items that built up to make the total cost.

The column is starting from d strip don't forget o .
Let assume 12m for reinforcements length
They bend about minimum of 300 inside the strip
300*4=1200mm

What he have left is 10800
10800/3 = 2700(2.7m)

Then he cast mass concrete off 300mm

Except he's dropping the rebar straight he can achieve 4 or reduce fence height ..

There r recommendations for that though ve stated one abve

Hello everyone, please I need someone that can remove all this planks used for casting the decking cause it seems the Carpenter that did the woodwork is getting full of himself like it requires a special machine to remove them.

Or kindly advise on how to go about it.

Thanks

Oh... there actually a way to go about this next time.

You should spell it out in his cope of work (removal of formwork) and keep some balance till this is done.

They’ll charge you separately for removal of formwork.

Kindly talk to him and offer him something reasonable.

If he’s unwilling to do it, I can give you an egun (Cotonou) carpenter who can do it. The only thing I can tell you is he’ll take over your carpenter job if he step on your site. Not with juju o but he’s going to do everything to impress you. Talking from experience.

Let me guess, your carpenter is a yoruba man.

Yes. Baba Samuel.
Am terminating his contract with me already.
Kindly get me the contact please.

After he collected 260k just to lay the planks and the rest. He wasted so many materials. The architect told him to get 3/4 PLYWOOD. He told me to get half inche and it was condemned. I had to go and get marine boards after. Additional cost.

Yes. I learnt he’s in Cotonou. He’ll get in touch me with me shortly.

He did 95% of my projects so I can give him reference. Show him anything. He’d bring it to reality with minimal resource.

Note: I don’t get my carpenters involved in material procurement but I pay them well.

Don't remove the plank for now
You will need the plank for parapet
The wood you will likely need for parapet will be less than 100k
When you are doing the second floor pillars carpenter will take wood from your deck
When you are doing your parapet carpenter will take wood to use
Don't pay for carpenter to remove the wood for now

The formwork should be deconstructed.
If you want to reuse the woods, negotiate with the carpenter to also remove nails from the woods so that they will be easily used.

Good advice. I had wanted to ask him reason for removal as he can still use the woods for other things like sock away , septic , gutter and parapet
I did my parapet and spent only 18k in total for cutting and extra 1/6 wood .

This is the best way to go about it in my opinion, even with all the percussion the woods can’t be 100% good condition afterwards Woods are like gold this days I hate buying them. Cost of woods at the end of the day may equal or more then cost of cement after the construction.

Can anyone help me with this calculation please.

I have a plot of land that I want to fence, right now one side of land has been dwarf fenced by my neighbor.

How many blocks will it take to fence the remaining corners excluding the gate space?

Right now I intend it to be 7 couches of blocks. While 2 is buried and 5 will be the height.

How many bags of cement and quantity of sand can finish this job.

The land is in a dry land, is it necessary to blind with concrete?

Size of land is 100 × 50ft

Thanks in anticipation!

This is one reason I invest in steel shutters and marine boards.

I just can’t cope with the amount of money wasted on planks in a project.

If nothing else, the huge savings I got from not having to plaster my slab is worth the extra spend on marine board. I always move straight to screeding after drawing my wires.

Thanks baba. Those actually fall into my 1847 project. We’ve gone many steps ahead.

I added a concrete vibrating table to my equipment list in 2019. This means we have the capacity to produce lots of custom precast elements on our projects. We could be saying goodbye to in-situ lintels, septic tank/manhole slab, coping etc and embracing precast elements built to industry standard.

In the third quarter of 2020, we ended the regime of wood formwork for parapets with the introduction of steel forms for parapet.

As I always say “We are constantly evolving.”

I'm aware of those points of yours but I need to fix a door inside one of the rooms below to start keeping materials like generator and cements cause water is entering into the storehouse built with pan whereby making all the cements to harden.

Without removing those bamboo, it will be difficult to move in materials. And my intention is for the person to remove them smoothly and arrange them to one side until it is needed at the parapet stage again and the pillars.
