By Iniabasi Umo Sat Mar 06 2021 It is now a common feature to see a large number of children and teenagers at strategic areas in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. They are seen at the Ibom Plaza roundabout and major streets like Ikot Ekpene, Oron Road and Abak etc, especially where there is traffic congestion, either hawking sachet water, cleaning vehicle windscreens or begging for money. https://dailytrust.com/uyo-a-city-besieged-by-street-children

dunno OPs purpose for this post but the truth is that this matter has to be looked into. Four lane traffic light is becoming something else. was shocked to see em every where when I came back last Christmas. na so e dey start before u know it they will start claiming territories and it will turn the case of OYO and Sunday igboho dragging their lands with foreigners. they should be taken off the streets! 4 Likes |

Daily Trust won't mention directly that majority of the child beggars are Almajiris from the HausaFulanisKanuri Muslims of the North. Have been in Uyo severally for work and I noticed very large presence of HausaFulanis from North with their people from Chad, Niger Republic, Mali, Senegal etc all selling slippers, caps, kolanut and everything hawkable. Uyo is a beautiful city with very rich meals...!! 29 Likes |

punisha:I swear.... They are every were but especially in 4 lanes and plaza... It's silly.. these Fulani kids and women have herdsmen husbands in our lands... University of uyo VC have welcomed them with open arms in the schools permanent site.. theirs families turn the streets of uyo into something else...... These bastards are just here for business... But judge me if you want... On two occasions a fair beautiful Fulani kid came clinging to me...touched by her beauty and hunger (I thought) I wanted to give something but I didn't have change, I was surprised when I said I didn't have change she quickly asked how much I was with, I said 1000, she asked how much you wan give me I said 100 naira, she's said bring it... Damn she collected the money brought out wads of cash (on an 8 year old grade o) estimated 15,000 or more from under her big Jersey shirt..and gave me change... I was shocked... Happened again at choba porthacourt, almost embarrassed and shocked (because I had headsets on and didn't notice them)..change issue again this time was 500, she said she has change (this time she looked 16,17). She brought out cash from her wrapper damn... She looked at me and hid it... I could swear it was more than 45,000... Plus they walk in multitudes....it's alarming the nuisance it's becoming in beautiful uyo... 19 Likes |

One of the women at the traffic lights along Abak Road, who identified herself as Fatima, suspected to be the mother of one of the children, and is probably 20 years old, told our correspondent that she came from Niger Republic to work in Nigeria. Fatima added that she was hungry and needed to eat. Buhari sister 7 Likes |

Failure of government at all level to get kids off the street. Remove kids from parent that place them on the streets Arrest the parents and put the kids in training off some sorts or adoption into a family that has the means to care for the child. This must be done with force! Zero tolerance to kids trading or begging on the roads. |
