descarado: I don’t know, like lovey.mom said, we use ukpo. Also the base for me is always palm fruit extract, I no sabi cook oha/okazi with palmoil. Yes it is our soup. To think I told someone of this recenty and she was seriously arguing with me. Because I was born and bred in Lag, some people dey think say I no know my papa house for village. 3 Likes |

pocohantas:I posted it here somewhere. Prepare like òha soup but use achì as thickner, then add your ùkazi. Lots of stockfish. I am not a fan of achì so I used naija kind of oat(Quaker). That's what I use as cocoyam(100% legit and you will never know it isn't cocoyam) Loveymom come and explain yourself |
Re: Cook In Your Kitchen, Take Pictures And Post It Here. SIMPLE! by pocohantas(f): 5:59pm On Mar 16, 2021 |
descarado: Yes, that is how I cook too. It is just like oha na. We also put achara. You know achara right? The sister in the video just decided to touch every angle, for rookies maybe. Someone has told me of the oat thing. Do I just blend the oat and pour into my soup? |

pocohantas:Of course I know achara. I have eaten achara soup in ùbakala. Yeah, you grind, pour small at a time towards the end. It shouldn't be thick cos it will swell after cooking. 1 Like |

descarado: Lol Like I said, as an Umuahia woman, we use more of Ukpo as a soup thickener and when we are cooking Ukazi soup(not Egusi soup) we add little Egusi then ukpo so that the soup will be light, not thick nor watery. And I believe individually, people cook based on their preference. My explanation above is how my Grandmother made hers as it is our main native soup mostly cooked during ceremonies. That doesn’t mean that you can’t use Achi or Ofo as soup thickener, just like my maternal home uses cocoyam as soup thickener. Any kind of soup thickener will work fine(I think) 2 Likes |

loveymom:Oh Abìrìba. That town is a tale for another day. It's the mum's people that marry off. Opposite of what we do. That's you pay dowry to the mum's family. Then party at the fathers place. After Christmas,a day is set aside for anything marriage. You will see canopies lined along the major road. Like 30 families will be engaging in either wedding or trado. I don't understand their tradition at all. Heard that people don't cook that day cos you will be going from one house to the other feasting. I really need somebody from there to explain their customs. 2 Likes |
