Hello guys, my sister got a visa denial this week. But that is not the main issue, cos she was not really interested in it anymore(other plans came up) the issue now is that one of the reason given in her denial was that they are not satisfied that she will leave Canada cos of her family tie in Canada and her home country (Nigeria). What do they mean by family tie in Canada because she never said she had any family in canada.

When did she apply?

she applied since last year, school adviced her to defer till this year September cos of the lockdown. So I think I visa processing really started this year even tho she started the visa processing since last year

Family ties in Canada and in your country of residence

Far too many times, prospective international students who were refused with this point wondered why they should have a family in Canada before being given a visa to study in Canada. Please be advised that the full statement is “family in Canada OR family in your home country”. So, its either you failed to prove each criterion or both criteria, that is, whether you have family ties in Canada or whether you have family ties to your home country. This is what you should do :

Show sufficient ties to your home country i.e. what will compel you to return home after studies?

1. Do you have a spouse and kids(minors) and are you leaving them behind?
2. Do you have elderly parents who depend on you?
3. Do you own registered businesses/property that you need to continue managing after studies?
4. Do you have adequate funds?
5. Do you have family members whom are not accompanying you to Canada?

If you've any of the enumerated points, explain in detail their importance to you and how they would induce your return home after studies.

I hope this information satisfies your inquiry.

Thank you for the response. My question to this suggestion is:

1. If the fund is transferred from either of my parents as "gift deeds" - will the VO not doubt the genuineness based on the profile of my parent with pictures shown on either they can afford such a huge money?
2. For how long do I need to leave the fund in my account before application?
3. Do I need to write a LOE or any binding document for this transaction from them?
4. What if I transfer the fund myself from my other account? what is the implication or how best should be the approach?

Thank you in anticipation of your response.

JustMellow:

Hello OctGsam,

You still have time to put in your application. Get your friend to transfer the funds to either of your parent not sponsoring—or playing crucial role—so the funds can come to you as a gift from the concerned parent. The deposit narrative of the funds should be "study support funds in Canada."

Best of Luck

A friend wants to support my application with fund for proof of fund. Please advise on the best way to go about this.

He should deposit the money into your account in little denominations so as to avoid being suspicious. The money also shouldn't come from one source either. It should be deposited with different narrations and depositors name.

Ps: On the other hand, the advice from my capable colleague "Justmellow" is also a welcomed idea.

Liquid cash available in Bank account are acceptable POF for study permit. Assests and other immovable assets like landed property, building, gold, jewelleries etc.

But if I choice to use a fixed deposit (bond capital, money market etc) do I need to wait for 4-6months before application considering September resumption?

okay. But for the 3 days quarantine. What's the cheapest hotel?

You will need to check online for this information. Some of the hotels can be booked online so check their rates. I think hotels in Toronto is a bit more expensive than other POE’s so you can do well to also check the other POE and also align with airlines that will fly to other POE asides Toronto.

thank you very much for this explanation...what happened was that after getting the refusal letter, we heard that we have a uncle that went from Usa to Canada and had put down my mom's address as his relative contact address. So we thought probably their system picked it up and mayb denied her based on the fact that she didn't mention it on her application that she has a family in Canada. And my uncle immigration lawyer adviced that she should complain to that effect that she didn't know her uncle had moved to Canada at the time of applying for visa so that it won't affect any of her future visa application to Canada (thinking that she lied about not having any relation in Canada)

When making use of Fixed Deposit certificate, you don't need to wait for too long prior to submitting your application. You can wait for a month to prove that the money truly belongs to you before submitting the Fixed deposit with your application. More so, a reference letter stating that funds are unencumbered by debts or other obligations must suffice.

Having an uncle who is resident in Canada does not in anyway have a connection with her refusal based on family ties in Canada. As a matter of fact, in the Canadian immigration context, what they meant by a family member is a close relative e.g Spouse, Kids or parents. In view of the foregoing, she stating in her application that she doesn't have any family member in Canada is absolutely correct and has not misrepresentated according to subsection 16(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. I don't think its reasonable to state that she didn't know her uncle had moved to Canada at the time of applying for visa because this is far from her previous refusal. She should be more concerned about demonstrating to the visa officer that is well-established in Nigeria and would depart Canada after the authorized period of her stay.

Hello Prodigy20,

Honestly, it may be best if you can pay your first session fees and if possible, open a GIC or have your LE in your personal account.

The resonation of your opening statement sounds like you're going for a 2nd UG?

I thought someone said on this platform that Nigerians cant get a GIC account. please did anyone use a GIC account as part of proof of fund here? or is it valid 4 Nigerians applying from Nigeria ?

Special thanks to Justmellow, Frankrobbn1, Qudkom (haven't seen this moniker in a while), lekiboboe, etc. I even sent mails this morning before receiving ppr. I would advice you email them via this medium - nrobi-immigration@international.gc.ca.

Also send an enquiry via webform - IRCC WEBFORM - NAIROBI

The content of the mail should state the date you submitted your application referencing your UCI and App No. You should advise the visa officer in writing that your funding letter cannot be deferred till another term. And as such you will appreciate your application be given due consideration/swift processing in order to enable you meet up with the Spring, Semester. You should also provide a copy of your funding letter highlighting in yellow link that your research is time bound. More so, include a reference letter from your supervisor in support of your visa application. At the end of the mail, thank the visa officer for taking their time to review your application and appreciate them for the success gained in your application thus far. Do this on a daily basis, you will see that your file will be attended to in no distant time with a positive result in the end. Take a bold step by getting your upfront medicals done soon i.e if you're yet to do so.

Let me know if you need further information from me.

If your bank provides mybank statement certificate for their customers, why not generate it and forward a copy of the certificate to IRCC rather than waiting for them to request for it. I would advice you do so as soon as possible.
