JAMB says the sales of forms and registration for 2018 UTME is extended in order to accommodate candidates who haven’t registered.
The Board Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB has extended the registration for 2018 UTME till February 11, 2018.The Board’s Head of Media, Fabian Benjamin announced in a statement released today, Tuesday, February 6 in Abuja.
Benjamin who had earlier announced on Monday, February 5 that sales of forms and registration for the 2018 UTME would end on Tuesday said JAMB extends the deadline to accommodate candidates who have not registered.
He said: “JAMB as a responsive organization has taken the decision albeit with great hesitation to accommodate candidates who failed to register between the two months window period that ended at midnight of Tuesday, 6th February 2018,”
Meanwhile, the 2018 UTME is scheduled to hold from March 9 to March 17.

LoccaDiamond, the girlfriend of a 28-year-old Nigerian student, Kennedy Toomwabwa Dede who was brutally murdered in Egypt, paid a touching tribute to him by tattooing his name on her arm and finger.
Dede was kidnapped by a gang comprising of eight people, on Tuesday night, January 30. The suspects took him to the Çanakkale Pond, where they brutally attacked and and killed him. His body was recovered the next morning

Former military President Ibrahim Babangida has spoken on the controversy around the statement he issued about the 2019 elections.
In the statement well-circulated in the media on Sunday, the retired military ruler, better known as IBB, asked Nigerians to have patience with President Muhammadu Buhari till his tenure ends in 2019.
He also harped on the need to have a new breed of leaders.
But shortly after that statement signed on his behalf by Kassim Afegbua, his spokesman, was made public, a counter-statement was released.
The new statement denied some of the critical issues raised in the previous one, saying IBB had “unfettered channel of communication with the highest authorities”.
But in a chat with THISDAY, the elder statesman said: “original statement still stands”.

The newspaper said when Babangida got informed that a counter-statement had been issued, he instructed Afegbua to reach out to media houses reaffirming the validity of the first statement.

Babangida reportedly said the second statement was issued by friends and had nothing to do with him.
However, the ex-president was said to have expressed dissatisfaction with the way the statement he issued was treated.
Nigerians reacted to the controversy in different ways.

Babangida released the statement less than two weeks after former President Olusegun Obasanjo wrote a letter to Buhari asking him not to contest in 2019.

Jeeez! That was heartbroken. He ended up leaving the house for an empty closet for over a year ��
Then as a wave of current, it dawned on the young man that it was obviously a test of his true personality that had finally come. He knew life was going to take an even worst situation if he didn’t take a step. He said to himself.
It’s Time To Prove Them Wrong.
Of course, he didn’t know how he was going to do that. But there was one thing he knew he could change. And that’s HIMSELF!!!
So he started to work on his attitude to life and work. His focus for results. His commitment to anything he sets out to achieve. This was premised on the words of Jim Rohn which says �
“If you want to achieve anything in life, the first thing to do is to CHANGE YOU FIRST”.
And things took a different turn for him, in contrast to his fears.
Beware of dream, vision, and passion killers when you are about to take that giant step of your life.
The major distractions will come from Family and friends in most cases. It’s sad to say this. Family and friends in most cases will be the first to try to talk you out of it.

It doesn’t matter how passionate and excited you’re about it. They will come into your head most times slowly to talk you out.
Most of these people who try to talk you out have long lost their dreams.

Guess what? They’re not ambitious about creating their own future.

If you’re ambitious, if you want to own your reality, you better start by choosing your own future. Stop letting people without ambitions choose your future for you. And if you must know, they’ve got no future for you.
Let your ambition drive you to your goals and hand over your future to you to control.
Work harder on yourself, develop yourself, let go of the energy drainers from your life. People who don’t believe in you.
The most powerful motivational speeches that I have ever heard came from people who dared to show me the many reasons why I would fail. But unknown to them, they’ve only revealed the many reasons why people fail and how I could think and avert it.
If this is the state you find yourself now, the end is here.
What then should you do?
Get back to your quiet moment again. Bring the proper mindset on, look away from the obstacles you may have created in your head while listening to them, look towards the joy, the excitement, the celebrations that comes with success.
They can’t stop you.
They can’t stand in your way.
They can’t wreck your vision, your dream, your passion.
Hey, get in the line. Prove Them Wrong.
They’ll will try to stop you.
They will slow you down.
They’ll call you names.
They’ll celebrate your mistakes.
They’ll wait patiently to see you fail.
But if you have the proper mindset. If you can bet to stay on until you get to your goals. You will be amazed at how good you’d always been.
Think of the three biggest discouragements in your life, they’re not your biggest discouragements. You are their biggest candidate.
Just dare to prove them wrong.
Nothing good comes easy. You’ve got to find it, whatever it is within yourself.
Don’t wait, don’t quit. Just because you failed, doesn’t mean you’re a failure.
I just need you to keep going. Try to make that one different decision that you’ve not made before. Don’t let the distractions distract you.
Failure is not an option when you go into it. I want you to go into everything with a mindset to win.

Human rights activist, Femi Falana, on Friday blamed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for Nigeria problems.
He accused Obasanjo of being the originator of all problems listed in his statement to President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that he brought shame to the country during his time.
Falana Speaking to journalists in Benin City, Edo State stressed that apart from the allegations of nepotism and clannishness Obasanjo leveled against President Buhari, “other allegations made there were nothing to write home about.”
He said: “In another words, all the other allegations took place under President Obasanjo and in fact, he institutionalized the culture of impunity under the democratic dispensation in Nigeria.
“If President Obasanjo who ruled this country for 11 and half years has institutionalized democracy, rule of laws and respect for human rights, we will not be in this mess and the control of Nigeria by the Nigerian people, we will be having an Eldorado by now.
“So, please, let Obasanjo and others be honest to admit that they brought us to this shameful episode. So, nobody should grandstand when it comes to the mis-governance of Nigerians.
“Nobody has apologized. The fact that from 1999 to 2007, this country, made close to hundred billion dollars from the sale of one commodity, oil. What is there to show for it rather than permanent darkness?
“The more you spend on energy, the more darkness you get. So what is there to celebrate? What we have were mass unemployment and sales of national assets to few boys who were closed to the presidency, rigging of elections.
“You have all forgotten that the results from Delta, Ondo and others were announced in Abuja and in those states in order to rig those elections. What is there to celebrate?

“President Obasanjo is entitled to form his own political party or his own movement but he should please desist from insulting the collective intelligence and the collective memories of Nigerians.
“When Sharia started, the federal government did not challenge the unconstitutionality. Under that era, we had ethnicity and religious violence that claimed lives of over 20,000 Nigerians.

“With great respect to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, apart from the allegations of nepotism and clannishness, which cannot be disputed, every other allegations made there, is nothing to write home about. In other words, all the other allegations took place under Obasanjo and in fact, he institutionalized the culture of impunity under the democratic dispensation in Nigeria.

“Many of us have forgotten the abduction of Governor Chris Ngige, many of us have forgotten the fact that the National Assembly and the House of Representatives displayed bales of naira with which it was alleged that the presidency wanted to bribe the legislators.
“Many of us have forgotten about the third term agenda or the fact that many people who were also closed to the seats of power were treated like sacred cows even in the fight against corruption. But I do not want to join issues with Obasanjo for now on his letter so that one is not seeing as endorsing impunity in our country but other than the allegations of nepotism and clannishness which the presidency is notoriously noted for, I think, they are birds of same feathers.”

An Open Letter To Chief Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo.

LEAVE US ALONE.

Dear Chief (Dr.) Obasanjo,

First and foremost, let me congratulate you on the recent conferment of the award of Doctor of Philosophy on you by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). You have by this feat, demonstrated that age is no barrier to academic achievement. I honestly hope you will complete the process by becoming a research fellow somewhere so as to add the title of Prof to your name.

Now to the reason for my open letter to you. Let me quickly point out that this letter is a reaction to a similar letter you addressed to President Muhammudu Buhari, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Before anything else, let me apologise for having to employ this methodoly to reaching out to you. As a thorough breed Yoruba man, I am not unaware of the fact that it was wrong to approach an elder in this manner. But going by the fact that you have in the past employed similar method in reaching out to men in high offices, particularly presidents, it then suggest to me that you may see nothing wrong in my action.

Second is the fact that I am of the strong view that you expected well-meaning Nigerians, including yours sincerely, to avail themselves with the content of the said letter and possibly react. Although, some were apt to conclude that the real essence was to eke your name in the consciousness of the people.

Baba, there is no gain-saying the fact that you possess an outstanding personality and clout, which are very rich and intimidating. However, your greatest challenge, in my opinion, has to do with your nature.

Since 1976 when you came to the centre stage of Nigeria's political landscape, you have continued to play the role of a domineering figure.
Baba, I must confess that though I admire your grit and gut. However, I also believe that there are times for stock taking, time when one relaxes on the past. But this seem to be unimportant to you, regardless of the status you occupy in the society.

I have, and am sure many Nigerians do also, not forgotten how you imposed the Land Use Act on the entire country; the 12, 2/3rd Saga of 1979, which brought in Ex-president, Shehu Shagari adminstration. You became the main beneficiary of the June 12 1993 election cancellation struggle by taking the yoruba slot to become president even though you never identified with the struggle.

Baba, may I remind you Sir, that on becoming the president, you worked against every thing Chief Obafemi Awolowo's political dynasty stood for. You rubbished Chief MKO Abiola when you said he was not the messiah to lead Nigeria to the promised land. You not only made your self Leader of the Yoruba, but father of the Nation.
Your tenure as president between 1999 to 2007 was a disaster! You appointed advisers you never took their advice thereby wasting public funds through the appointment. You did not improve on housing, infrastructure, road or health. Companies, particularly, banks busied themselves retrenching staff members rather than growing the economy.
Baba, during your tenure, Nigeria was living a borrowed life despite the boom in oil sales, Money realised during this period were wasted on electric power achitecture that added no single kilowatt to national grid. Similar fate befell money voted for road construction all over Nigeria. The aviation sector became comatose. You officially liquidated Nigeria Airways, and till you left office, you never saw the need to pay your government commitment to the retrenched staffers of the organization. Indeed, during your tenure, planes were falling off the sky like mangos falling off tree.

Baba, do i remind you sir that as Minister of Petroleum, you increased fuel pump price Eleven (11) times, which is the cause of the economic crisis we are still in till today.

We the people never gained anything from the windfall from the sale of crude oil, we still await all promises to provide palliatives from your government till today.

The only sector that thrived during your era was corruption and this was because you knew those involved would disturb your Imperial ambition of a third term. You set up the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), brought in Mallam Nuhu Ribadu to hound your real and imagined enemies,

Baba, the list of your misdeamenour in government are legendary. So, suffice to allow you recall others.
But coming home Baba, you knew the health status of ex-president Umar Yar' Adua, yet you imposed him on Nigeria and Nigerians. You never trained nor groomed a successor, because of your life presidential ambition. You could have picked or promoted the candidature of a younger and vibrant Northerner, rather than the sickling Yar'Adua whose eventual demise nearly plunge the country into another war.

Baba, rather than allow the People's Democratic Party (PDP) caucus and the party organs choose the vice presidential candidate ahead of the 2007 presidential election, you unilaterally decided on Dr. Good luck Jonathan whom you would later lambast and worked for his fall.

Now that you have taken on President Buhari, to me your letter is borne out of mischief and attempt at blackmail, because you have unrestricted access to the Villa than most Nigerians. Thus you could have discussed the content of your reprehensible letter with President Buhari privately and proffer viable solution or even offer to serve in a capacity that will bring about change and improve deliverables from government.

As a former president, you are by all stretch of imagination s statesman and should therefore be seen and not heard always.

Nigerians want you Sir, to be in the mould of ex-president J. J. Rawlings of Ghana, Nelson Mandela of South Africa, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bush, Bill Clinton and recently Barack Obama of the United States of America. They have all act as statesmen in their various countries, they are only seen and not heard, but get across to power, not through ignoble public letters, which you are used to.

Going through your letter, you acknowledged that President Buhari administration has been able to curtail insecurity/ Boko Haram and that the fight against corruption was on course, though on a selective basis, that is where you should have come in privately to correct

In fairness, Buhari's main campaign thrust was to secure the country, take back all the territory controlled by boko haram, which he has done to the admiration of all Nigerians, including you as confirmed in your letter.

Baba, one would have expected you Sir to give examples of how you tackled corruption, the economy, insecurity, unemployment, roads and rural developments and other government deliverables, which are now in place, which the government of the day has destroyed or killed.
But your advice to President Buhari that he should take a rest is not anchored on any moral rectitude particularly as you disingenously attempted to enlongate your tenure after the expiration of your mandatory term.

Baba, Nigerians have taken a stance as a people, we know what to do when the time comes to vote and do not need to be telly guided.
We want to be left alone to decide our destiny, which are in our hands and not in any ones hand.

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said he will not apologise for adopting his deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, as the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate for the 2018 governorship election.
He also told the former Minister of Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, and other aggrieved PDP aspirants that they were free to leave the PDP for other parties.
Fayose spoke at a declaration of ambition (tagged ‘baby declaration’) by Olusola in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday.
Adeyeye, a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada, Dare Bejide; a former Commissioner for Justice, Owoseni Ajayi; and a Senator representing Ekiti-South, Mrs. Abiodun Olujimi, had kicked against the adoption of Olusola by Fayose as his candidate.
They described the adoption of Olusola as arrogant and anti-democratic.

But Fayose at the rally said, “The PDP has taken a position; I say we have taken a position and we have no apologies for that and the position is that Olusola should take over after me as the governor of Ekiti.

“It doesn’t matter to us how many people that are abusing us by our action. They are even free to join our adversaries, but we will defeat them as God liveth.”

The governor described the declaration as a show of strength to warn the APC, saying, “We are here, we have what it takes to win an election. They say they want to rig election; that will not happen here in Ekiti; they should look elsewhere.
“They must know that politics is not played in the other room; it is played in the living room. We are going to play politics of the living room and not the other room.”

Fayose said the date of the main declaration would be announced later.

A Nigerian man suspected of being a member of Boko Haram and killing people in Nigeria during attacks on schools and a village has been arrested in Germany, the federal prosecutor said on Friday. .

According to Reuters, the 27-year-old man, named as Amaechi Fred O., was detained on Wednesday in Bavaria and a day later a judge issued an arrest warrant and ordered that he be remanded in custody, the chief federal prosecutor said in a statement. .

“He is strongly suspected of being a member of the foreign terrorist organisation Boko Haram,” the statement said. It said Amaechi Fred O. was believed to have joined Boko Haram in 2013 and had admitted to actively taking part in four attacks against Nigerian civilians during his one-year membership of the group. .

He is accused of killing several people during two attacks on schools and one attack on a village and taking part in another attack on a village, during which members of Boko Haram took girls as hostages and burned down a church.
