The identity of the father of the child of former Big Brother Naija contestant, Gifty Powers’ child, Alisha, continues to be shrouded in mystery. Recall that Gifty recently posted a picture of the child with a man on social media. She stated that the guy in the picture was the true father of her child.

However, Mr 2kay responded shortly after that with a post in which he insinuated that a DNA test had been carried out on the child and the results could not be wrong. He wrote, “DNA too true to tell a lie, way forward”.

This was after he had felicitated Alisha on his Instagram page. “Happy birthday to my sunshine. Alisha is one today. Daddy loves you so much. May God keep protecting you and showering his blessings on you endlessly. My little princess and you look so much like your big brother,” he wrote.

In an exclusive chat with Sunday Scoop, “Gifty maintained that 2kay isn’t the father of her child. She said, “Tell him to post the proof (of the DNA test) on his Instagram page. I know what is happening. 2kay just wants a stupid publicity stunt.”

However, Mr 2kay insisted to Sunday Scoop that he wouldn’t release any proof. He said, “I am not saying anything about this issue again. You can call Gifty and listen to whatever she has to say.” When he was informed that we had spoken with Gifty, he said, “Okay. I’m not discussing anything more about that. I am an adult and nobody can force words out of my mouth.”

The occupation of AUD Primary School, Irona Ado Ekiti, by a madman and hoodlums has sparked anxiety among teachers and parents over the safety of the pupils.

Apart from the lunatic, who occupies about 10 classrooms, suspected rapists, burglars and Indian hemp smokers are said to have made the school their hideout.



Our correspondent learnt that the lunatic often chased the pupils around and threw stones at their teachers.

Some of the teachers, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, claimed the development had forced some of the parents to withdraw their children from the school.

The headteacher, Mrs Taibat Yusuf, who said activities of the lunatic and suspected criminals were constituting threats to learning in the school, appealed to the state government to intervene.

Yusuf said, “We are calling on the state government to help us remove the lunatic from the school compound because of the threat he poses to the pupils and teachers.

“The lunatic chases our pupils, throws stones at teachers and threatens them anytime they are in school.

“Teachers and pupils are always gripped by fear that he may invade their classrooms at any time and this won’t make them to concentrate.

“Our school compound has been turned into a den of rapists, Indian hemp smokers and other criminals and this has led to the withdrawal of many pupils from the school.

“Besides, we want government to renovate the collapsing fence which gives easy access to the lunatic and the hoodlums.

“Many of our classrooms are dilapidated and the school also needs a gate.”

An alumnus of the school, Alhaji Olorunkemi Ogunjobi, said, “It is a pity that my former school has become the home of a madman and criminals.”

Ogunjobi added, “We want the police and civil defence officers to come here and arrest the lunatic. Besides, the government should employ security men to guard the school.”

Professor Richard Akindele, a former lecturer of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), has been sentenced to two years in prison for demanding sex from one of his students as criterion to pass his course.

At the court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Monday, Akindele had changed his not-guilty plea to guilty.

Akindele was imprisoned for demanding sex from Monica Osagie, one of his students, as condition to get a pass mark in his course.

In April 2018, an audio recording of a phone conversation between Ms. Osagie and Akindele emerged, where he was heard demanding rounds of sex before she could pass the course.

In November 2018, Akindele was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) before a Federal High Court sitting in Osun. Akindele was subsequently remanded in prison custody in Ilesa.
However, at its sitting on Monday, Shogunle Adenekan, the prosecutor, pleaded for a suspended sentence, noting that all parties in the matter had reached a plea bargain.

On the four-count charge, Akindele was sentenced to two years on count one and two, and one year each on count three and four, respectively.
The sentence will run concurrently.

The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has asked the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to focus on her own campaigns and stop worrying about when the ruling party would constitute its own campaign council.
National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu gave the advice Sunday evening while reacting to a statement credited to the PDP accusing the ruling party of planning to rig the next elections, hence its failure to constitute its campaign council and embark on any serious campaigns.
“It is very amazing that two months into the election, PDP is still not presenting any alternative governance agenda before the people of this country. Sadly, the main opposition party appears at a loss as to how to face Nigerians knowing they would have to explain why they so badly mismanaged this country at a period of surplus. Rather than focus on its own campaign, the only apparent concern of PDP is whether APC has flagged off its campaigns or not”, the APC said. According to the ruling party, it would soon begin a series of strategic engagements with Nigerians, stating that it had started its campaign on assumption of office.
“Of course, APC will soon begin strategic engagements with the people of this country. Unlike PDP, our party as the ruling party began our campaign immediately President Muhammadu Buhari resumed office. “We have spent the last three and half years carrying out massive infrastructural projects in all the 36 states of the country. We have invested heavily in social intervention programmes targeted at the ordinary Nigerians, at a scale never seen before in this country. The onslaught against corruption, the lasting solutions being put in place to provide security across our country, the transformation in the agricultural and the solid minerals sectors are the real campaigns that the APC government has embarked on since June 2015. We understand that PDP cannot campaign on issues as they have none to present. “PDP’s recent attempts to speak to issues have ended in disgrace as it became obvious they base their projections and analyses on fallacious data. In effect, PDP is left with no other option than to resort to sophistry. They obviously need another trip to Dubai. Perhaps, they may try China this time, hoping they would at least get their figures right”, he stated.

A blockbuster and action-packed Hollywood movie about Nigeria’s terrorist group, Boko Haram and its activities, is set to grace the screens. A Hollywood movie inspired the Boko Haram insurgency in North-east Nigeria, has been filmed and is currently in post-production. The film which is titled ‘Rise’, is being helmed by first-time feature film director, Maritte Go. Shooting has been concluded for the film produced by US firms, Defiant and Kodiak alongside German company, Telepool.

‘Rise’ was shot in Los Angeles and Ghana. Jimmy Jean-Louis, Sasha Morfaw from ‘Black Panther’, Sufe Bradshaw, Sydelle Noel, and Peter Mensah are some of the actors involved in the project. The dramatic thriller is co-written by Go and Broderick Engelhard. The plot of ‘Rise revolves around an 18-year-old Nigerian princess who allows herself to be kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents in an attempt to save her younger sister, and in a bid to achieve her objective, she comes face to face with Boko Haram’s most dangerous leader.

The Coalition of United Political Parties has said it had selected the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as its candidate in the 2019 presidential election.

By this decision, the CUPP which consists of over 46 parties, said the other presidential candidates of the member parties had ceased to be the standard bearers of their parties.

Chairman of the CUPP, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

Justifying the selection of former vice-president Atiku by the coalition, the ex-Osun State Governor argued that the PDP presidential candidate had met the criteria laid down by the CUPP.

These, he said included national acceptability of a candidate and his party, the strength of the structure of candidate and party in the country and competitiveness of the candidate’s party against the All Progressives Congress candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, other criteria include the financial strength of candidate and party, access to financial resources, capacity and readiness for the election in the about 120,000 polling units in the country, the capability and credibility of the candidate, as well as his acceptability locally and internationally.

Oyinlola, who was flanked by other members of the coalition during the conference said, “After a painstaking assessment of what we have in the coalition parties and after processing the candidates’ suitability using these criteria, the steering committee hereby submits that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is the best and his party the most virile of all the options before us.

“We therefore chose him as the CUPP candidate for the 2019 presidential election.”

He said the APC would not have won the Osun State governorship election in September if the opposition parties had presented a common front.

Oyinlola said, “Indeed, opposition votes combined in the election were about 500,000, almost doubling those of the ruling APC, which scored 255,505 votes.

“So, our suggestion is that whatever we are doing with the presidential ticket should be done in all states for all positions for the good of our people.

“The modalities can be worked out based on the peculiarities and political realities of each state. We must all realise the fact that it is better and wiser to win together than to lose together.”

Asked if the adoption of Atiku was informed by his alleged funding of the coalition, the retired military officer stated that he would only answer the question if given proof that the PDP candidate was funding the coalition.

On the projection by The Economist that the coalition against Buhari would collapse before 2019, Oyinlola said, “Did you see any sign of collapse in the coalition? The Economist will be surprised.”

The National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, told one of our correspondents on the telephone that “we are happy that the committee picked our candidate for the race.”

He added, “We will rally round him and work together with the sole aim of rescuing the country from the hands of the hawks masquerading as democrats. I wish to also appeal to the other candidates that they should come together with us in order to move as a team for the interest of all.”

A fisherman was out catching eels when he stepped on what he thought was a log, but the log moved and he realised it was an enormous python.

What follows is an extraordinary battle between man and beast as the 27 foot reptile powers through the undergrowth trying to escape.

The giant snake then goes into survival mode and instinctively wraps itself around one of the men's ankles.
Six men spent several minutes trying to overpower the 100kg reptile  trying to hold the snake's mouth to stop it from biting.

I found the snake first of all,' said one fisherman[b] 'I walked on it. I thought it was a log[/b]. I was shocked. There were six men all trying to fight it.

'The snake was wrapped around my friend's leg and we quickly released it.

'We were only looking for fish, but the snake is like the grand prize. My religion forbids me from eating the snake, so I could not make a meal from it.'

The snake ended up in a large cage in a village where it was kept for several days. Wildlife officials then drove it several miles away to be released away from settlements.

Growing up to 30ft long, the reticulated python (Python Reticulatus) is the longest snake in the world.

According to Makawai, Attah was killed by members of the ‘Aro Bargas’ confraternity, recently in Ijegun, Lagos. He was shot in the head twice.

Attah, a reported footballer with immense potential and prospect also belonged to the rival cult group, the ‘Eiye’ confraternity. Sadly, these members of Aro Bargas were said to be Attah’s childhood friends, but they killed him because he angered them.

Even worse, it is reported that they had to track him down to a place where he reportedly begged for his life, while on his knees. Reports claim they never budged and instead killed him.

A teenager, Idrisu Muhammadu has allegedly killed his girlfriend, Fatima Isah, after she abandoned him and dated his brother.

The incident happened at Evutagi village in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.

The late Fatima,32, was said to have told Idrisu that he was too young for her to marry, and instead started dating his elder brother.

Speaking with The Nation, Idrisu confessed that he had been struggling with his elder brother over who should marry Fatima, before killing her.

He explained that he was driven by jealousy to kill Fatima with a matchete, during which his elder brother who was with the deceased at the time of the attack fled ran for his dear life.

Idrisu said: “I have told my elder brother to leave her (Fatima) for me, because I have made marriage proposal to her. But my brother would not listen to me and he kept on seeing her.On the day of the incident, I saw them (his elder brother and Fatima) together and I lost my temper and killed her.

“Look at what it has resulted to, I am now a murderer, I am going to spend all my life in jail at the age of 16, it is unfortunate. If I had known, I would have allowed Fatima to be, after all marriage is not by force.If care is not taken, I am going to be executed and I will rot in hell for trying (to forcibly) take what is not meant to be mine,” he lamented.

Contacted, the police spokesman, Mohammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, noting that the suspect had confessed to killing the late Fatima.

‘’The suspect’s threat to Fatima to stop seeing his brother or be killed had been going on for three years, sadly, no one took him serious. Now, this is the result,’’ Abubakar added.

He said the suspect would be arraigned in court after the completion of investigation.

A suspected member of a robbery gang based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Junior Nmeni, has lamented that he had not made enough money from robberies before luck ran out on him.

 Nmeni, who was a cleaner, claimed that he and his gang members had only been able to make N223,000 and get some phones from robbery operations he participated in.

 The 28-year-old said he had hoped to make enough proceeds from the crime so that he could take care of his wife.

The expectant father said he went into robbery after he lost his job as a cleaner at the Port Harcourt International Airport.

 He said, “I was a cleaner at the Port Harcourt International Airport where I earned N18,000 as salary. I joined the gang seven months ago because the company I worked for sacked me and things became very hard for me and my wife.

 “There was a gun that belonged to my late elder brother. I found the gun in the ceiling of his apartment. There was a riot in Nwokocha’s community and I gave the gun to him. After the crisis, he used the gun to rob and he killed a man with it.

 “He returned the gun and told me what he had done.  I decided to join the gang. We robbed a man and a woman at Iguruta. We kidnapped the woman’s sister and I raped her. I kept her in my house for two days before Iwuayawu and I started demanding a ransom.

 “We were paid N200,000 ransom and I got N23,000 as my share since we were six that did the job. The next operation I went for was at a hotel.  Elvis (a gang member at large) brought one of the guns we used for the operation. It was Sunny, another member, who gave us information about the hotel. We got N21,000 from the hotel and three phones.”

 Nmeni explained that his last operation with the gang was at the home of one Mr. Ogundun.

 He said they were confronted by their victim which forced them to retreat, adding that he had not made enough money from “the business” before he was arrested.

“Elvis was the one who brought ‘the job’ but on the day we went to the man’s house, we didn’t succeed. The man had a gun and he shot at Nwokocha. We took the man’s motorcycle away.

 “I hadn’t made much money from ‘the business’ (robbery) before I was arrested.  I was hoping to raise enough money which I intended to use for my pregnant wife’s delivery,” Nmeni stated.

Women who snore have a higher risk of developing heart disease, a new study has warned.

Researchers from Munich University Hospital have discovered a link between a sleep disorder called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring.

OSA causes an increased risk for ventricular dysfunction in the heart - and worryingly, may be vastly under-diagnosed among snorers.

In the study, the researchers analysed data from 4,877 UK patients who had received a cardiac MRI.
Of those patients, 118 had OSA, 1,886 were self-reported snorers, 2,477 did not have OSA or snore, and 396 were discounted.

Dr Adrian Curta, who led the study, explained: “Our analysis showed that in both genders of the OSA and snoring groups there was an increase in left ventricular mass, meaning that the walls of the heart's main pumping chamber are enlarged, making the heart work harder.”

The results also showed that this effect was far more common in women than in men.

Dr Curta added: “We found that the cardiac parameters in women appear to be more easily affected by the disease and that women who snore or have OSA might be at greater risk for cardiac involvement.
“We also found that the prevalence of diagnosed OSA in the study group was extremely low.
“Together with the alterations in cardiac function in the snoring group, it leads us to believe that OSA may be grossly under-diagnosed.”

The findings suggest that snoring may be the first sign of an evolving process leading to cardiac issues.

The researchers hope their findings will encourage people who snore to get screened for OSA.

After much beating, one of the robbers lynched by an irate mob, yesterday, along Aba-Owerri Road, Aba, Abia State, pleaded with the mob to pull off a charmed ring in his finger for him to die.

It was gathered that the suspects snatched money from a victim, who was at a nearby bank to withdraw money, before racing towards Aba-Owerri Road. An eyewitness said unknown to the suspects, they were trailed by some tricycle operators after the victim raised the alarm.

He said: “The robbers almost escaped with their motorcycle, but were caught in a gridlock along Aba-Owerri road where the tricycle riders raised the alarm.” The eyewitness alleged that the robbers confessed to being members of the gang that killed a tricycle rider a week ago at Immaculate Avenue and made away with his tricycle. He added: “The criminals trailed someone to a bank and snatched money from the man as he came out and took off in their motorcycle. The tricycle riders pursued them as the victim shouted for help. On getting to Star Paper Mile Junction here in Umungasi, they were caught up in the traffic jam and the tricycle riders came through the other lane blocked them and shouted for help.

“People arrested them and beat them for about 30 minutes, but nothing worked until they discovered that they had charms on them. Their charms were pulled out and one was beaten to death while the other refused to die. “He later pleaded with the crowd to pull out the charm on his finger which was a ring. It was pulled out before he died. These were the same group of robbers that killed a tricycle rider some weeks ago at Immaculate Avenue. That big one there confessed when people were beating him close to death. One of the tricycle riders, who helped in the arrest of the fleeing robbers, said the criminals relied on their charms which failed them and urged the security agents to protect lives and property in order to avoid people taking laws into their hands.

A video of a woman using children to steal a handbag in mall has gone viral online.

A child, accompanied by her mother and two siblings, is caught stealing a customer’s bag at a mall in Paarl, Western Cape.

The woman and her children are seen wandering around outside Steers at the Paarl mall.

They then go towards the entrance of the mall and stand there for a couple seconds, before going back outside.

After standing and looking in the direction of the victim, the woman and the youngest of the children, a boy, approach the table.

The mother is seen taking her phone out of her pocket and, while talking on the phone, walks close to the customer’s table with her children in tow.

The eldest of the children, a girl, is seen kneeling down. She then takes the customer’s bag from under the table.

They all leave the area without being noticed.

Samantha Williams, a manager at Steers said

"A customer came to the counter and told us that her bag had been stolen, but unfortunately we could not do anything about it, so we referred her to the centre's management,"

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said no other incidents involving the suspects in the footage had been reported.

"A theft case is currently being investigated by the Paarl police," he said.
