Health / Re: Cost Of IVF In Nigeria by pslm23(f): 11:18pm On Jan 13, 2012
agiboma:

That is a great suggestion but what do you mean by natural cycle IVF, are you referring to the eggs (follicules) a woman produces monthly without the aid of fertility or ovulation drugs?

A natural IVF cycle is way more cheaper than the regular IVF. A woman who has absolutely no problem ovulating or creating mature follicles but still has difficulty conceiving should consider a natural IVF cycle where no medication is given or used to induce follicle growth or ovulation.

alexuamai:

because most practitioners of ivf in nigeria do not tell their patients that there is natural cycle ivf as well as minimal stimulation ivf--we offer both of this with results comparable with the best in the world--for details call 08036066989 of LekkiFertility centre

You are right! A natural IVF cycle is way more cheaper than the regular IVF. A woman who has absolutely no problem ovulating or creating mature follicles but still has difficulty conceiving should consider a natural IVF cycle where no medication is given or used to induce follicle growth or ovulation.

^ Happy new year!
She is still very critncal and has just developed pnemonia.

I am very sorry to hear that! sad I hope she pulls through. I hope the hospital is at least doing their best to control her level of pain? Is she still on a respirator? They use that to help the patients breathe better especially when pneumonia occurs.

You are all in prayers.

Happy New Year GB. How is your relative doing now? I hope she's still fighting this cancer and trying her best to get stronger and better everyday.

God bless

Forgive me for not responding in Igbo. It took me approximately 10mins or more to read each postings  grin. It was real hard understanding everything but the full meaning is quite understood and I just want to say that I think the time has come! We need to come together and say ENOUGH! but say it loud enough so people will know we are serious and that we've had it with the senseless killings and blatant disregard of Eastern and Southern lives.

Even though I live in the US, it will never change my beliefs or my strong sense of cultural preservation. I weep each day I read about another killing perpertrated by the North. We are not moving target practices for these cowards who see nothing wrong in killing people that did them no wrong.

A wind of change is coming in 2012 and it is blowing furiously!

I just got the news today that the rest of my family living in  Abuja are preparing to move back to Awka/Aba within the coming weeks.

With God on our side, who can be against us. We are a warrior tribe and we should never forget that!
Health / Re: Pancreatic Cancer by pslm23(f): 8:21pm On Dec 28, 2011
The Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philly was our choice for my mom.

For my dad it was Abramson Cancer Center of Penn Medicine in Philly. They sent us an estimate of what his care might cost and they wanted at least 90% of that paid for up front before they would even send a letter to the Embassy for him to get his medical visa. The payment was made within 48hours but trust the US Embassy in Abuja, they kept delaying at every turn until it was just too late.

Do a google search on good cancer treatment centers in whatever country you decide to take your relative to.
Health / Re: Pancreatic Cancer by pslm23(f): 8:11pm On Dec 28, 2011
@GenBuhari, my prayers are with you and your relative.

my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer too and he also had to endure all kinds of tests and so on before they would even do surgery. His type was also said to be operable but they were trying to avoid that and instead go for intense chemo and radiation. he died while waiting for them and just a week before his medical visa was issued.

My mom had cancer of the liver and stomach and was flown here for surgery and or chemo. She had lost so much weight it was impossible to get any vein to draw blood or infuse any medication so they placed a stent in her major artery on her chest. it got infected with septicemia and they didn't realise it until it was too late. They told me her confusion and disorientation was as a result of the high dose of morphine they put her on to control her pain.

I hope your relative pulls through.

Your write up is enough to pull at the strings of anybody's heart. You are right, all this hate between us need to stop someday and what better day than today as we read what you wrote.
I was fortunate to grow up in an inter-tribal household and then have friends and acquaintances from different tribes. I guess this and the upbringing I got have helped mold me into the tolerant person I am.

I just wish people will be respectful of other people's opinions, religion, culture etc if we are to have peace. No culture or people are more superior than others. Once we get this fact buried in our heads, maybe a change will come.

Oh well, I know I will teach my future children that with tolerance and respect comes peace and love.

For health reasons, I've decided to go 100% vegan for 3 months. I will completely be off of any kind of meat, fish, animal by-products or processed food.
I need help and suggestions on easy dishes I can make. I know I can get information online/google but I'm looking for Nigerian/African dishes I can make without using meat, fish or anything animals.
Also, how do I make my own soy milk at home?

Thanks.

Wow! look at all that money being mentioned! Nigeria is freakingly rich, if we didn't have suce corrupt so called "leaders" we would be side by side with countries like the US when it comes to wealth. it's so sad reading about all this money being embezzled. What kind of wickedness is this? Your people are suffering and dying because of poor medical infrastructures, poverty etc and yet, these greedy b*astards are sitting on millions and billions like as if they earned it.  angry angry angry

The curses of millions of Nigerians are on their heads!  angry They will not live long enough to enjoy that money and any house or houses built with embezzeled money shall be washed away by a tsunami or flood!  angry angry

Thanks CC. I had wanted to send money home so they could do my share of the souvenirs but you know how our people are! They want it done here in the States so they can show off,  mschewwwww. undecided

@ Jay Bee,  Those picture ideas are great. But I don't know oh! I was thinking of something that even the village women can appreciate and use. Nothing too expensive and flashy. I do like the colorful bags though and the flash lights too.
Like I said, with my mom I made tote bags which everybody loved becos it could be used for different purposes i.e carrying Bible, going to market/shopping etc. For my dad I did church fans because his homegoing ceremony/funeral was 100% an outdoor event and also on one of the hottest weeks in Anambra history  grin The fans came in handy as everybody was using it to fan their sweaty selves.

CC, what do you think of silver or dark colored wooden picture frames with my granny's picture in it and an inscribed inspirational saying etched on the frame itself with her Sunrise and Sunset dates??
Health / Re: Anyone Trying IVF/IUI/ICSI (Fertility Treatments)? by pslm23(f): 2:34am On Dec 07, 2011
Hi all, @ Rusty, i'm sorry i never called you back after we spoke the first time. Nov was a crazy month for me with numerous doctors visits etc. i'm sure you are back in Nigeria now. Hope your stay here was beautiful and fun. @ Uzoo, thanks for asking after me. The Lord is my strength. A lot has happened since my negative result and post IVF consultation. @ Blendy, a big fat congratulations to your friend! It is always so heart warming and great to read other people's successful IVF stories. It gives me and others the courage and strength to keep trying. We need more people to speak up regarding IVF and the good it can do in a childless couples life. @ 7Colors, I'm surprised to find you here on my thread after your despicable attitude towards me and the fact that you mocked my childlessness. In the spirit of the season and because I don't want to enter 2012 hating on anybody, i will kindly advise you to please not advertise your usual "adverts" on my thread. Open up your own thread and market what you have to offer to other women  but you need to pick your words carefully and know how to present your pitch otherwise the same thing that happened last time between me and you will repeat itself.

Now to update you my dear friends and well-wishers, Jan 11, I'm scheduled for the esure tubal litigation surgery, This is the one where they'll go through the vajayjay to tie of the hydro tube. It will take approximately 3 months to completely heal from this procedure before i can commence with round 2 of IVF. It is well.
I have another thing to worry about oh. I suffered a nasty slip and fall at my local walmart (their roof was leaking heavily on a rainy day and there was nothing catching the water and no sign indicating that the floor was wet. I went flying through the air and landed on my tailbone and now my back is busted real bad. I had to do an MRI and then referred to a neurosurgeon becos i had a herniated bulging disc that was causing unspeakable pain down my legs. The doctors are throwing around words like back surgery and steroid injections. This is going to put a big dent in my IVF plans. Like my doctor says, I will not be able to  carry a pregnancy to full term with the damage in my back.
When it rains it pours my sisters and brothers. Your prayers and love are still very much needed by me. To cap it all my beloved grandma died last week and I have to go home for the funeral. How will i sit through almost 17 hours of flight from PHL to Abuja when I can barely walk now from the pain in my back. The Lord is on the throne. Hugs to y'all.

Family / Ideas Needed Please by pslm23(f): 1:54am On Dec 03, 2011
My grandma died 2 days ago and I will be leaving for Nigeria in about 2 weeks for her funeral. I have to make Memorial Souvenirs and I am drawing a complete blank when it comes to ideas. I just want to make something that is won't cost me an arm and a leg but at the same time something worthy of the memory of my granny,

Please can I get suggestions and ideas? I made tote bags and mugs for my mom and dad's memorial souvenirs so I really don't want to go that route again.

Any idea is very much welcomed.

Thank you
Family / Re: Is It Okay For My Husband To Live With My Younger Sister? by pslm23(f): 6:04pm On Dec 02, 2011
How old is your sister?

Regardless of her age, tell your husband that you trust him completely but your sis is in that house because of you and since you've been transferred, your sis is coming with you. Put your foot down [s]but be careful oh! kunta kinte put his foot down and it got chopped[/s]  grin

by the way, do you guys have kids? Do your plans include taking the kids with you to your new post or will they remain behind with hubby? If you have kids and they r staying behind, maybe that's why hubby wants SIL to stay so she can help take care of them??

Anyway, it doesn't matter what we say here. If your gut is telling u to remove sis from the house, then do so. gut feelings are 99.9% spot on!

I am an organ donor and it states so clearly on my driver's license. If any part of my organ can help save a life or two after I'm gone, then why not.
Regarding the question of using my body for science research, it is something I am considering. It's just an empty shell and my soul isn't in it anymore. If my body can help in the research to find a cure for AIDS, Cancer, Alzhemiers, Parkinsons, and other crazy deadly diseases out there, then I will gladly donate it to science [s]as long as no pervert tries to have sxx with my body[/s]  cheesy

Nairaland / General / Re: Man Bite Snake To Escape Being Swallowed by pslm23(f): 11:52pm On Nov 20, 2011
Is this story real or is it a joke? I just can't help but wonder,  undecided

From what I've read and watched about snakes especially pythons and boas, once they coil around an animal, they constrict tightly and kill their prey by asphyxiation before swallowing.

How is it possible that a python tightly coiled around a prey can crawl up a tree?  and if this man's hands were already in the tight coil how was he able to whip his cell phone out and call for help? How come all he had was a cut on the lower lip where he was bit the snakes tail? and how come he didn't have any broken bones, not even one cracked rib?

His story might have a ring of truth in it if the snake was malnourished and without strength because a real python would have asphyxiated and swallowed him before any help would have reached him,  hell! the snake would even have been picking it's teeth and basking in the sunlight after a scrumptious meal.

This story doesn't ring true to me! Journalism and it's sensationalism!!
