Ex-Blue Andre Schurrle Will Get Winners' Medal from Chelsea Boss Jose Mourinho

Andre Schurrle was under the assumption that his bit-part first-half role on the Chelsea side that won the Premier League wouldn't result in him receiving a Premier League winners' medal.

But Jose Mourinho is hardly an ordinary manager.

Schurrle was sold to Wolfsburg for £22 million over the winter transfer window, as the talented German's playing time was dwindling on a deep Chelsea side.

Mourinho sent his former winger a text informing him that the club has a medal waiting for him and that he'd love it if Schurrle could attend Chelsea's last Premier League game of the season.

Schurrle joined the Blues in 2013 from Bayer Leverkusen but was mostly reduced to substitute duties in 14 appearances.

The World Cup winner revealed the classy exchange with his former manager to the BBC.

I didn't know that I'd get a medal when I didn't play most of the second half of the season.

Jose Mourinho sent me a text to say that I'd get a medal and he asked me to come to the last game. That was very nice for me.

I'm really happy for the boys. They played a very good second half of the season so of course, for me, it's good to get a medal but the boys did the work. ...

I love Chelsea still, I'm not frustrated, it was a great experience.

Say what you will about Mourinho's managerial style, but he's shown time and time again that he's a downright decent guy off the pitch.

Politics / Re: President Jonathan’s Salary Revealed by ptaller(m): 2:50am On Apr 20, 2015
I think the FIRS just produced this document just to make it seems the president doesn't earn much. I don't know what the real salary is, but the Super eagle's coach was earning 5m per month which would be 60m per annum. In my opinion, I think the Presido's basic salary should be more; irrespective of other allowances. Without the normal e-fight, I'll like to be educated on this, if the President earn lesser than some other public servant. No fight abeg oo, he who understand it better should explain to me. Thanks in advance.

Health / Health benefits of Pumpkin Leaves(ugu Leaf). by ptaller(m): 10:05am On Dec 24, 2014
Do you know Pumpkin Leaves(Ugu leaf) Can Make Your Little James Grow B!gg3r and L@rg3r?

Back where I come from, we call these green “ugwu” or “ugu”, and most Nigerians have no idea what the English name is (like most local foods) it is known as pumpkin leaves. My grandmother used to say this was a great vegetable to blend and mix with juices and stuff, but way back then, as a child, I could never understand why someone would want to blend a vegetable. And it didn’t have the best texture in the world. Now, look at me, blending all sorts of greens!

This vegetable is used a lot in Nigeria to cook soups (what you may refer to as a sauce), to boil and eat plain, or to blend into a shake. People say it is healthy, but I don’t think people truly know what those health benefits are.

Pumpkin leaves contain a healthy amount of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, and Iron, while still staying very low on the calorie front.

We all know about the vision benefits vitamin A provides, as well as the skin benefits. Vitamin C helps to heal wounds and form scar tissue, and maintain healthy bones, skin, and teeth. However since the body cannot produce this vitamin on its own or even store it, you should be consistently getting enough vitamin C in your diet.

As for calcium, your mother probably already told you growing up that you need a healthy dose of calcium for your bones and teeth as a child. However, if you are a female, it is important to consume enough calcium to help prevent osteoporosis and keep your bones strong. There have also been studies showing that calcium may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular failure.

Iron helps our muscles store and use oxygen, and helps carry oxygen from our lungs to other parts of our bodies as part of hemoglobin. If you’ve ever heard the term “anemia”, this can be caused by iron deficiency. Women and children in particular need a healthy dose of iron consistently, and these leaves help provide that nutrient naturally.

Some of the health benefits of pumpkin leave include:
1. Prevention of convulsion: The young leaves sliced and mixed with coconut water and salt are stored in a bottle and used for the treatment of convulsion in ethno medicine.

2. lowers cholesterol:leaves has hypolipdemic effect and may be a useful therapy in hypercholestolemia.

3. Boo$t f3rt!lity: A particular study showed that pumpkin has the potential to regenerate te$t!cular damage and also increase sp3rm@togenes!s.

4. It has a liver protecting effects.

5. It has antibacterial effects

6.The leaves are rich in iron and play a key role in the cure of anaemia, (my mother used to mix the leaf extract with milk)

7. They are also noted for lactating properties and are in high demand for nursing mothers.

8. It has an hypoglycaemic (sugar reducing) effect. It is good for diabetics

9. Increases Blood Volume and Boost Immune System and as a result increases blood flow to your little J@mes and incr3ases it siz3 n@tur@lly

10. The high protein content in leaves of plants such as pumpkin could have supplementary effect for the daily protein requirement of the body, as a result could make u l@$t l@ngar on b3d.

Romance / The 4 Hidden Reasons Some Men Don't Want Sex by ptaller(m): 9:41am On Nov 05, 2014
The 4 Hidden Reasons Some Men Don't Want Sex
By Laurie J. Watson, LMFT, LPC on March 23, 2014 - 4:33am
The cultural myth that a man doesn't want sex because his wife is unattractive or unenthusiastic simply isn’t true. Beautiful, fit, desirable—and desiring—women regularly make sex therapy appointments to complain about husbands who don't want sex.

Why does this happen? Here are four reasons—and resolutions:

1. His work is his mistress. When men are passionately involved with their careers, they can sublimate sexual excitement that would normally be directed toward their wives. The accolades, money and ego boost from being regularly praised, or promoted, can be a turn-on.

Resolution: Be interested in the details of his career so you can share this aspect of his life. Take a quick note or two to remember specific project details. But also request that there be an hour of "couple time" with cell phones turned off every day, and a date night every week. Also: Consider scheduling intimacy time for the morning.

2. Sexual Autonomy. He doesn't want to negotiate sex and so takes his desire, literally, into his own hands. He masturbates to porn or his own fantasies because it's quick and efficient. Some men feel exquisite vulnerability at being dependent on another person for their desire to be quenched. Our society idealizes a man who needs nothing–the rugged individual, the Marlboro man, the take-charge-don’t-take-anything-from-anyone guy. Boys can internalize the idea that being dependent makes them less male. And childhood patterns of interrupted care, or neglect from constantly busy parents, can cause boys—and girls—to decide that needing is dangerous.

Resolution: Tell your husband that sex is necessary for your marital happiness. Request that he try to cease from masturbation to build partner desire. Remind yourself that his lack of desire might not be personal, but a defense against loss of attachment. And agree on a frequency of intimacy that makes you both happy.
3. Anxiety about ED, EE and DE. Erectile dysfunction, early ejaculation, and delayed ejaculation might have diverse causes but their common factors—a man’s frustration, worry and feelings of inadequacy—can shut things down sexually between you.

Resolution, for older men: The issue may be less about truly low libido than performance anxiety. But these feelings may lead them to turn away from sex right at the time their post-menopausal wives are worried about waning attractiveness. Make an appointment with a urologist first and check his testosterone levels. (If he needs sildenafil (Viagra), be enthusiastic about the extra time that can be spent in pre-intimacy.) Also, ask for “sexy time” and talk about the desire for stoking and being naked together. Ask for your own orgasm and potentially the lack of pressure will allow his natural response.
Resolution, for younger men: Younger men struggling with these issues will double their anxiety by worrying about their partner’s reaction, so, first, be kind. Second, be insistent about him getting help. Women, of course, want their partner to climax but increasing the flexibility about how that happens (perhaps not inside the vagina but occasionally lying together while he finishes with masturbation) will reduce his anxiety. Early ejaculation is easily resolved with sex therapy, but ask him about his porn use to see if that is a factor in his ED or difficulty with reaching orgasm.
4. His inner world outvotes the caveman. A reticent, kind, male patient who struggled with low libido finally opened up about three aspects of his libido: One part was an awkward teenager who felt anxious about initiating. A second part was a 20-something, feminist male who thought sex was degrading for women. The third aspect—a caveman—was Hot and hungry for sex. He said that the first two characters always outvoted the blatant needs of the third and so he remained silent with his wife about his desire. She listened in awe as her usually quiet husband revealed his complexity, later asking if just once she might have sex with his caveman.

Resolution: Use psychodynamic therapy or dream analysis to help understand the inner make-up of his libido.

I'm not a good writer & most importantly not trying to cause a "club fan war” but would be glad to enjoy the reason of having a forum. Could this confirm the fact that Barca is a one man team? Nelma is a good footballer, but the press contributed more to his price tag than to his capabilities. (My opinion though) I've spent A̶̲̥̅̊ℓℓ my years watching soccer & aside ping pong, would say its best sport in the world.
Coming back to point, Barca this season have never scored more than 2 goals in A̅ℓℓ the games Mecci didn't play more than a goal, & they have lost 2 two in a row (don't know if it's correct) my point is, I play sporting bet & with Barca I've lost lots of money coz Merci isn't playing. Aside the fact that I stake my money, I also enjoy their game. Back to the forum aspect, do u think Barca is nothing without Merci? Thanks & God bless.
Sports / In Numbers: Cristiano Ronaldo's Incredible 2013 by ptaller(m): 11:18pm On Nov 23, 2013
The Portuguese is in the finest form of his career and now favourite to claim the Ballon d'Or, so Goal takes a look at his stunning stats with Real Madrid and Portugal this year.

"You are talking to God!" Zlatan Ibrahimovic told a reporter ahead of Sweden's World Cup play-off return against Portugal on Tuesday. But after his brazen boast, Ibra was left in the shadows as Cristiano Ronaldo's Solna spectacular sent the Swedes packing - and the Portuguese to Brazil 2014. So if Ibra is God, how would we describe Ronaldo right now?

Zlatan's two goals gave Sweden high hopes of qualification as the Scandinavians took a 2-1 lead and levelled the aggregate score at 2-2. But Ronaldo, who had hit the winner in Lisbon and opened the scoring in the return, added two more stunning strikes to ensure Portugal's presence in Brazil next summer.

In doing so, the 28-year-old continued what has been the finest year yet of his professional career. And as Fifa decided to extend voting for the Ballon d'Or (originally closed on November 15) to the end of the month, the Portuguese is now the firm favourite to claim the prestigious prize for a second time and bring to an end Lionel Messi's monopoly.

The Argentine has won the award for each of the last four years and is in the running for the prize again this time but his injury-interrupted 2013 means that he is not the strong favourite that he has been in previous editions. Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery is also among the contenders after winning it all with the Bavarians last season, but, in terms of individual brilliance, 2013 has been all about Cristiano.

Ronaldo's staggering statistics over the last 11 months may not have included a team trophy but the Portuguese has been the outstanding individual player of this calendar year. So, with that in mind, Goal takes a look at the Real Madrid forward's incredible numbers in 2013.

66 - Ronaldo has hit 66 goals so far for club and country this year, beating his previous record of 63, in 2012. And he still has six more games to add to that tally (Madrid have eight matches left in 2013 but Cristiano is suspended for the two Copa del Rey clashes against Olimpic de Xativa). The 66 goals have come in just 55 appearances for Madrid and Portugal. Last year's 63 came in 71 appearances.

64 - By comparison, Ronaldo's rivals for the next Ballon d'Or crown, Messi and Ribery, have scored a combined 64 goals in 2013.

56 - The bulk of Cristiano's goals in 2013 have come with Madrid. The Portuguese has netted 56 times in 46 official games for his club this year.

47 - The Madeira-born forward's treble against Sweden saw him reach 47 international goals and equal the Portuguese record held by former Paris Saint-Germain striker Pauleta. One more goal would see Ronaldo, who has 109 Seleccaocaps to his name, claim the record outright.

36 - Ronaldo has scored 36 of his 66 goals in La Liga this year - in just 30 games.

32 - For club and country in 2013-14, Cristiano has 32 in 22 games. At the beginning of last season, he hit 21 in the same amount of matches.

30 - In April, he became the first player in Madrid's history to score more than 30 goals for three straight seasons and he is well on target to do so again this term.

24 - The Portuguese has already scored 24 goals for Los Blancos this season (from just 17 games) - his best-ever start to a season in Spain. And that with a new coach and system to get used to, plus the departure of Mesut Ozil (the German had set up more goals for Cristiano than anyone else - 27 - in the previous three campaigns).

19 - His double at Elche, which included a controversial penalty in added time, means that the former Manchester United man has now netted against every other team in La Liga. In 2011-12, he became the first player to do so in a single season but he had never played previously against Elche, who were promoted in the summer.

16 - The Portuguese has added maturity to his unquestionable individual brilliance and has 16 assists in 2013, meaning that he has been involved in an amazing 82 goals overall this year. He is also La Liga's top scorer so far this season with 16 goals and, with Messi on eight and recovering from injury, he is well on course for a second Pichichi prize.

8 - The 28-year-old is the current top scorer in this season's Champions League, with eight goals from his four games. He needs just one more in the final two group games to break a record that he now shares with Hernan Crespo, Filippo Inzaghi and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

6 - Ronaldo has hit six hat-tricks for Madrid in 2013. In total, he has now netted 23 of them for the Spanish side. He only scored one treble at Manchester United, despite spending six seasons at Old Trafford and racking up 118 goals for the team managed by Sir Alex Ferguson.

5 - Ronaldo recently moved up to fifth in the list of all-time Madrid scorers, overtaking Mexican legend Hugo Sanchez, and now has 225 goals for Los Blancos in just 216 matches. At his current strike-rate, the Portuguese will surpass Madrid's highest scorer, Raul (323 in 741 games) in 2015.

2 - Up until this year, Cristiano had never netted a hat-trick for Portugal. He now has two: The first against Northern Ireland in Belfast during World Cup qualifying and Tuesday's display in Solna.

0 - Ronaldo will end 2013 without a major trophy after Madrid won only the Spanish Supercopa in Jose Mourinho's final season at the Santiago Bernabeu. That title, of course, came back in August last year. Whether that makes any difference in the Ballon d'Or voting remains to be seen but, trophies or no trophies, Cristiano has been 2013's finest footballer.

14 - Cristiano's strike at Juventus earlier in November was his 14th Champions League goal of 2013, which saw him beat Messi's mark of 13 from last year.

10 - Ronaldo has 10 goals in nine matches for Portugal in 2013 - the first time that he has managed double figures for his country in a calendar year. His previous best was seven in nine games, in 2011.

Fiery 230ft crater nicknamed the 'Door to Hell' baffles scientists after burning endlessly for 40 YEARS
Originally a level surface, the site was identified by Soviet scientists in 1971 as an area that was believed to house a substantial oil field

With fiery embers glowing deep underground, it looks like a scene from an apocalyptic sci-fi blockbuster.

But this huge crater is amazingly a real-life phenomenon which has been flaming away for more than four decades.

The 230ft-wide crater, known by locals in Turkmenistan as the 'Door to Hell', has baffled scientists since it first appeared more than 40 years ago.

Originally a level surface, the site was identified by Soviet scientists in 1971 as an area that was believed to house a substantial oil field.

However, the ground beneath the drilling rig soon collapsed, creating a wide crater that was believed to be releasing large quantities of methane gas, a potential danger to the nearby villages in Derweze, Turkmenistan.

Scientists decided that the most efficient way to solve the problem would be to burn off the poisonous gases -- by doing so, it was expected that all of the gas in the crater would be burnt off within days.

More than four decades later, though, the crater is still ablaze with endless flames and boiling mud - and hundreds of tourists flock to visit it every year.

The Karakum Desert, where Derweze is located, has one of the largest gas reserves in the world. Turkmenistan hopes to up its exportation rate around 75 million cubic meters of gas in the next 20 years.

The fiery crater first appeared in Turkmenistan more than 40 years ago. (TORMOD SANDTORV / CATERS)

Will Keeping, a retiree from Buchlyvie, near Stirling, visited the crater last month.

Unaware of the Door to Hell's existence before he visited Turkmenistan, Will, 57, was told on his tour that the crater was one of the hundred most bizarre places to visit before you die.

Intrigued, he decided to ride across the bleak desert environment, not knowing what to expect.

Will said: 'During daylight, I was initially not impressed as it looked like a hole in a vast desert. As we got nearer and the glow from inside the carter became evident, though, I started to notice the size of the crater and wondered how could continually glow like that.

Bubbling: The crater has been nicknamed the 'Door to Hell' by locals in Turkmenistan. (MARTHA DE JONG-LANTINK /

Inside, the crater is filled with endless flames and boiling mud. (WILLIAM KEEPING / CATERS)
'As I approached on foot, it became clear that this was a large crater and that inside was like a huge open furnace. At first, it appeared that it might have been a natural phenomenon, but the sides of the crater contradicted that. I could see the bent and rusted remains of some sort of metal railings or structure, implying some sort of catastrophe having occurred long before.

'I stood there gazing into the crater, the sheer size and intensity of the fire inside became more and more apparent.

'As the sun began to set, the location slowly transformed from a large, isolated furnace in the middle of the desert into the centre of attention that dominated the surrounding area - the glow became more intense and lit up the area including the sky above. It was impossible not to be drawn to the crater, something that was just dominant over the surrounding area.'

Nairaland / General / Top 10 Most Bloody Wars In The History by ptaller(m): 7:51pm On Sep 16, 2013
Quite a few wars have been fought throughout history. Whether they were fought for political reasons, power and reign, religious persecution, or any other political or governmental issues, death tolls and bloodshed were quite high in many of these wars that have occurred throughout history. Although each war has its own history, and has a different agenda, these are among the top 10 most bloody wars in the history, regardless of the time period they were fought, or the reason which the wars commenced.
1. World War 2
Although the death toll is still debated to this day, it was the war which saw the most casualties in history, with a number ranging from 50 to 80 million deaths. Most historians and most cited sources say the death toll, from all nations that were involved in the war, was around 65 to 70 million, but no official number has been cited, for the period from 1939 – 1945.
2. Mongol Conquests
