Good for you too. But since the question was directed at me, i answered as it pertained. The only way i can imagine anyone being poor in america is if the said individual is an illegal immigrant or an akata. With that status there is no hope for you. But wait a minute, you work for a fortune 500 and make all that income and you still stress on moving to Nigeria. See why i am confounded? You are in an environment which is conducive enough to achieve whatever dreams you desire, a place where you have adequate security, a place where all amenities are functioning and you want to trade it for a lawless country where nothing works and the future is uncertain. I must be the crazy one. Yes, i am definitely insane. There is no other explanation. abbey621:
Yes America is great until you realize no matter how much you want to believe that you are one of them you are not cos there's really no place like home. Yes I make a lot of money but in reality it is chicken change compared to what I could be making in 9ja as an entrepreneur. You mentioned that all amenities are working but you forgot that it's not free. Maybe it's the fact that I'm an Aries but I just don't like when a system is designed to take advantage of people; social security is a scam, insurance is mostly rip-off and seriously 7k just to give birth, ridiculous! This is exactly what the American system was designed for, you make money but spend it all in the US. Over 80% of Americans can't boast of 10k in savings, that's just a measly 2 million naira and yet people buy large houses and so on. The smart people in America are those able to take advantage of the system and invest wisely, those able to use the tools around them wisely, this is where being an African has its advantages. God willing, in the next 10 years I plan on investing heavily on real estate in Nigeria, beefing up my savings and finally saying good riddance to corporate America(Monday to Friday 8AM to 6PM is stressing me out). In Nigeria I can truly live like a king and with continuous income, I can enjoy it for years to come, I can afford a maid or two, a gateman and a driver and it all won't cost me more than what I'm paying for insurance per month. In 9ja, I can own my own company and truly impact people's lives. I can be all that I can be and more; in America I'm just a puppet, making money but not really living! Salah is coming up yet the Mofos expect me to manage my department regardless. I don't know about you but life is too short to be limited, America is just a stepping stone for me to get to my final destination, it will and cannot ever be called home! @abbey621 You said it the way it is, the truth and nothing but the truth! @ all Everyone will think America/Canada is great till you eventually reach the age 42 years old or so, then you have what is called a "Middle life crisis" All of a sudden you wake up from your slumber and asking yourself some questions. Why are you nephews and nieces are just making a fraction of your income buy yet can afford to build 4 (3 bedroom) flat in naija ? Why are you making $70,000/year and all you have to show for it is a house that you still need to pay it's mortgage for another 25 years? Why those in naija kept complaining that Nigeria is bad but they prosper more than you? At one tine, I didn't travel to naija for about 15 years (1997-2012), I was very surprised that I was the poorest in my family even though I lives comfortable here. Naija reality have thought me a lesson I will never forget; Oyinbo people are not foolish, they have a master plan. They don't give you that citizenship for nothing, once you accepted then you become a slave for life! I have a Friend here in Calgary, he has at least 4 houses for rental properties, I'm happy for him and wish him well. The problem with that, is that he will have maybe $3.5m when he retired or at the age of 70 years old and all the money will goes to the grand kids because his children are too old to enjoy that money too. On the other hand, his nephew also has 4 (3 bedroom) flats for rental property. The differences here is that little nephew totally owns his house and still makes little money to live is life to the fullest. He doesn't have to wait till 70 years old to enjoy his life! He doesn't have to pay any child support or alimony, he doesn't have to pay 40 % of his income in direct taxes and another 15% in goods & services tax, he doesn't have to pay his school loan for another 15 years, or so. It's better to have your own house and makes just 350k /months in naija than to makes equivalent of N13m /year in Yankee + a US passport. The sooner you realize this, the better. America is great no doubt, but its just to give you a head start and have a break in life! if you're not too smart to wake up in the so- called American dream, the you will live your life chasing those dreams forever! Good luck to you all and Gods's blessed regardless where you choose to live. . 7 Likes |

SmartMugu:
What happens after getting your US citizenship? I know tonnes of people who already became US citizens and can't even use their US passports for anything. They are simply buried in their bills to think of traveling anywhere. All they can brag about is being a US citizen, which is crap when they are stuck with working for 35-40 years in someone else's country. They eventually return to Nigeria waiting for their social security checks and possibly be buried in their motherland when they eventually die. Many of them never own anything in Nigeria, yet their nephews and nieces own homes they built. In return, the returnees will brag again about the huge homes they have in the US, technically owned by the US banks for the 35 year mortgage they agreed to.
#10 is just the beginning of the journey bro. All the homeless people we see in the US no be US citizens? It could have being from their choices though.
Those that diligently went through the steps you highlighted to become US citizens and end up with good jobs still know modern-day slavery when they see it. They just don't complain because their home country aint any better.
You may be new to the US or just don't get the full picture yet...
I live in the US too, and I do have US citizenship as well, I just look at a bigger picture than what the system attempts to make me think. There is really no where like home, let's keep that on our minds before getting in too deep into what the system wants us to be. ^^^ correct guy, chop knuckles |

That is why you preferred other places to Nigeria. So Nigeria is not the best place to live Please don't forget we're talkin' 'bout best place to live and not best place to work! A lot of people will choose Canada because of healthcare, standard of living, education, infrastructures..etc Naija docent have those but what she has is so unique that you cant see it anywhere else in the world! France is distance second in the world when it compares to Naija lifestyle. |

Shigoboy: bro let be sincere, Nigeria is just a suck compare to USA, thou I understand what you are trying to point out, but when we are talking of good economy, cool management, security etc, I think these are are the qualities of a good country, which Nigeria has none of these, you said "if you could get a job that would pay you the amount of money you receive in US" now, convert the money that left in your pocket monthly to naira after paying bills and tell me any civil servant that receives that in Nigeria except being a politician, oil worker, sir let call a spade a spade, Yankee is a nice place to be, that's my dream land. How I wish God hears your prayers and you get 10 years multiple visa and get a apartment in Harlem NY ! I swear you will want to go back to naija in just 12 months! |

I seriously doubt you live in the U.S. If you do then most likely you are an illegal immigrant. If you really did, you would not have made that bolded statement. Say you miss Nigeria; not Nigeria is best country on earth. I miss Nigeria too, but there is no way i would equate that country with the word "best". I'd have to be insane to think like that. Dude! Homeboy was 100% right! Before you doubt my claim, I lived in Staten Island NY. Park Hill (NY 10306) to be precise. I had a house on Wright street / Van Duzar, not far from Stapleton (NY 10305). I moved to Canada about 2 decades ago and I'm loving it. Unlike homeboy, If I can get just 40% of my salary gross in Naija, I will forever be happy. Why? Because Naija is the best place to live! Pure and simple! 1 Like |

SmartMugu: US, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, Nigeria. I live in the US, but I think I prefer Canada for the low crime rate compared to the US. Not sure if racism is much there as well, since almost everyone there is an immigrant.
For the European countries I have been to though, I think the language barrier may be an issue for me, I don't speak German nor Dutch. There are racism everywhere but here in Canada you can hardly see it. |

What do you expect from Brabus? The guy is a predator and fortunately for him it looks like there are no shortage of victims for him to prey upon on Nairaland. I'm still trying to figure out a single project that he has executed without a massive fall-out between himself and the client. In a decent environment, he will lie low and keep to himself but being a typical Nigerian, decorum is not a virtue he posses. In all fairness, I remember that you were warned about the risk of hiring Brabus for your project but in your wisdom of granting him a lifeline, you commissioned him to build your house. I'm sure that in retrospect, you regretted that decision but what irritates me is the sheer audacity of Brabus to come on this thread to claim that he did nothing wrong. Fortunately, we still have Builders who are upright and steadfast in persons of Spyder, Segcymoore, Aventures, Segzy14 etc. These builders showcase their projects on this forum without controversies whatsoever from their clients. I believe that Brabus don't give a damn about his clients because he knows there are loads of unsuspecting victims queueing up to be swindled. Amazingly, the moderators seems to be turning a blind eye to his evil machinations hence he knows there are no consequences for his actions. ^^^ So true! |

Hello Sir @ Qc1
I just viewed you thread from a - z and felt bad for the situation of your house. I am here for any advise you need any time. Its painful that you weren't led properly, because trust me, as non Building Engineer, you needed all the Guidance you could get. Anyway the truth and bitter truth is what you will be getting from now on.
First thing first thread with caution with that guy marketing kitchen cabinets, as a professional some pictures are from the Internet and never ever turn out to be the way they look. Then for the real life pictures, some are ugly, while the ones that are fine are fine because of the tiles and not the Wood Works.
Anyway That small one aside. As regards the Structural Issue you have with your house, the Only solution I can give you from where I am sitting right now is money, as I will advise you to keep money aside for a solution. I can't advise on any other solution until a proper physical assessment has been made. anyone giving you suggestions without seeing the site is just like what we say in Edo State (Those People wey no dey house we dey beat Police. Na them go talk say How wish I dey i for break the Police Head!!!!!).
As for Finishing your house, I can recommend ideas and processes to you. even recommend certain guys for you that can work on my behalf. If you want me to be directly involved, no shaking, but it will just cost you more, because na my business and business man dey business to make money oo. and the money dey really needed this period as New Wify need to dey fresh make she no park her bag back to her family.
Anyway one thing I can Guarantee, is as far as I am involved, your house must come out Nice. It has never happened Otherwise before.
Good to see the progress you made after all the project shortcomings. Its part of the learning process. Thanks boss. Like how much do you think I will need? . |

The Idea for This Thread and My all my threads is to Provide step by step Pictures of the process involved in delivering Architecture that has taken a new Dimension in Nigeria. Also for the public to be able to criticise the process and help us properly define an Architectural method we intend nurture and make into a brand that changes the face of Architecture in Nigeria and Beyond.
Moreover, These are Peoples Project which they are likely to sell or rent. So its doesn't work well for the business of the Client to have to total Cost of Project Posted Publicly. If you want information on cost of Project Kindly email me on skimanski4life@yahoo.com or info@dnstructures.com
Thanks ^^^ @ skimanski I'll be talking to you about any ideas on how to bring my project interiors to perfection soon. this is the project link https://www.nairaland.com/2486191/ikorodu-mansion-diy-report. |
