The Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said
that he has no respect for Obasanjo, who he
described as an indescribable liar. Soyinka carpeted the former president on Friday night when he was responding to questions during a programme tagged: ‘An evening with Wole Soyinka’, organised by Globacom. Asked to respond to Obasanjo’s assessment of him in the former president’s book titled ‘My Watch’, where he notes that Soyinka is good at hunting and wines but a political illiterate, Soyinka said that he was hardly bothered because he believed that Obasanjo was a liar. Soyinka said, “Obasanjo is entitled to his opinion. But the question is: ‘Who respects the opinion of a liar?’ I can spend the whole night proving that he is a liar. Obasanjo was once described by an economist, the late Prof Ojetunji Aboyade, as an economic illiterate. They nearly ‘went into blow’ that night. It was Prof. Mabogunje who separated them. “So, if an economic illiterate calls somebody a political illiterate, no problem at all. “In ‘ My Watch’, Obasanjo told the first lie when he said he deplored lies. Anybody who said he never plotted to have an unconstitutional third term in office, even as a writer, I need a word to describe him.” The former President and the Nobel laureate have been in a running battle taking swipes at each other over a lingering issue between them. Obasanjo had once stated that Soyinka once vowed that the differences between the two of them would not be resolved on earth. Obasanjo had also in his book, My Watch, and at public events described Soyinka as an expert in wine matters than in political analysis. He had said, “For Wole, no one can be good, nor can anything be spot-on politically except that which emanates from him or is ordained by him. His friends and loved ones will always be right and correct, no matter what they do or fail to do. He is surely a better wine connoisseur and a more successful aparo (guinea fowl) hunter than a political critic. “Wole Soyinka is a gifted man. I have always acknowledged that but he is a bad politician and I have also always said that. That is my own point of view. He may agree with it, he may not agree with it. THERE was an outrage in the ruling All Progressives Congress on Thursday over the announcement of new appointments by President Muhammadu Buhari. Leaders of the APC, who spoke to The PUNCH , complained that the appointments tilted in favour of the North and said the party must move fast to cope with the backlash of expected rumblings in the polity. “The President does not consult before making most of these appointments and I can tell you that Nigerians are going to term the party and the President as a northern party and the President of Northern Nigeria,” a leader of the party said to one of our correspondents late on Tuesday. Buhari, according to a statement by his Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Thursday approved the appointment of Babachir David Lawal from Adamawa State as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. He also named Mr. Abba Kyari from Borno state as his Chief of Staff. Other appointments approved by the President, according to the statement, are those of Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (retd.) as the new Comptroller- General, Nigerian Customs Service; Mr. Kure Martin Abeshi, Comptroller-General, Nigerian Immigration Service; Senator Ita Enang, Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate); and Suleiman Kawu as SSA on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives). Both Ali and Kawu are from Kano State and Abeshi is from Nasarawa. Enang from Akwa Ibom State is the only one from the south geo-political zone. Adesina said all the appointments would take immediate effect. Three top national officers of the APC, who spoke with one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity shortly after the announcements were made, wondered why the President was appointing only northerners to positions to the detriment of the southerners. They said that the President was already giving the party a bad name among Nigerians. They said they had hoped that he would learn from the criticisms that trailed his first appointments where more northerners were appointed into sensitive positions than southerners. Before the latest appointments, the President had also named only one southerner among the initial nine appointments he made. The northerners in the first appointments are the Director-General of the State Services, Lawal Daura; Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs. Amina Zakari; the Director, Department of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Mordecai Danteni Baba Ladan; and the Accountant-General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris. Also in the first appointments are the President’s Chief Security Officer, Abdulrahman Mani; State Chief of Protocol, Mallam Abdullahi Kazaure; Aide- De-Camp, Lt. Col. Muhammed Abubakar; and the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu. Only the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, hailed from Osun Staten in the South-West. Another APC leader said the party must devise a way of managing the backlash that would follow the appointments. He said, “Though the President did not get much votes from the South-East but we must not neglect the zone in key appointments. “Even the South-West that supported and was the backbone of the party, what are we giving the zone in appreciation? We need to be careful before the party is destroyed.” It was gathered that some leaders of the party were already thinking of having an enlarged meeting where the appointments would be reviewed. But another senior member of the APC said such a meeting, if it would hold at all, would have to wait until the party holds its Kogi State governorship primary on Saturday. A member of the state executive of APC in a South-West state, said the appointments were lopsided against the South. He said, “When President Olusegun Obasanjo took over, you saw balance in appointments as he reflected federal character. President Goodluck Jonathan too reflected a semblance of balance. Buhari is pursuing a northern agenda. This is the same agenda pursued by the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, when everything was pro-North. Buhari made six appointments at a go and five of them are northerners.” The Speaker of one of the Houses of Assembly in the South-West, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also described the new appointments as shocking. The Speaker, who is a member of the APC, said, “This is shocking. It doesn’t speak well at all. The South-West has been completely neglected and the South-East too. The South-West was neglected during the President Goodluck Jonathan years. The South-West must rise up against this.” Similarly, an APC chairman in another South-West state, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said the list of the new appointees had left him perplexed. The chairman said, “This is not good at all. Why should he choose everybody from the North? I am sure he did not confide in anybody before drawing up the list and making the announcement. We will continue to watch. It is condemnable.” In the same vein, an APC member of the House of Representatives, said the leaders of the party in the South-West were shocked by Buhari’s latest appointments. “He didn’t tell anybody. We are all shocked. The real shocker would be when he is going to appoint ministers. The only thing that would save us is that he is mandated constitutionally to choose from all states, otherwise, he would have chosen all the ministers too from the North,” the female member of parliament said. The new SGF graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1979 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree and worked with the Delta Steel Company, Aladja, Nigerian External Telecommunications Limited and Data Sciences Limited before establishing his own ICT and Telecommunications consulting firm in 1990. Kyari, the new Chief of Staff to the President, holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Cambridge and the University of Warwick in Law and Sociology. The new Comptroller-General of Customs, holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Criminology. 2015 WASSCE: WAEC Decries Mass Failure, Threatens To Withhold Results Less than 45 per cent of those who sat for the 2015 West African Senior School Certificate Exams (WASSCE) passed with credit grade and above, a trend that would seem to have continued from 2013. The poor performance has been put down to a lack of preparation and teaching facilities, and an inadequate number of quality teachers. To defeat the menace and also curb examination malpractice, the Head of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) national office in Nigeria, Charles Eguridu, said proper technology had been deployed. Meanwhile, the examination body said that 19 states out of the 36 states of the federation are owing about four billion Naira exam entry fees for State government sponsored candidates in the May/June 2014 and 2015 WASSCE. Speaking to Channels Television after addressing a press conference, Mr Eguridu maintained that the body was cash-trapped and was struggling with meeting its financial obligations. He also noted that the Council may delay the release of results of government sponsored candidates when the council announces the May/June 2015 WASSCE results. He said: “A total number of 19 states in the country owe the Council in respect of entry fees for state government sponsored candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE. Some states also still owe the Council registration fees for the May/June 2014 WASSCE. “We have written to the affected State governments without any response. This Lagos sef don tire me. Jeje I was sitting in
my car on a very long fuel queue from the Mobil in
Maryland. This Queue was almost getting to Anthony Bus- Stop. It was one of those days where no Fuel at all. Suddenly na him I see one guy run past my car with Jerry Can in one hand shouting "Won Ti Bere oooooo" I quickly jumped out of my car opened my Booth, got my Jerry Can and ran after him. He kept on running towards Maryland. When he got to the Filling Station he shouted again "Won Ti Bere Oooo" this in yoruba actually means "They have started oooooo" He ran past the Filling Station and headed towards Sheraton Hotel. Those that know this area will understand the distance. I tried to run faster to catch up and ask "Kini Won Bere" Meaning what have they started? But this boy ran faster. I looked back and I saw like 6 people had joined us everybody with Jerry Can in one hand. We continued past Sheraton and headed towards Ikeja Bus-Stop. When we got to Ikeja Bus-Stop he shouted again "Won Ti Bere Oooooo". ....and continued running we all continued too asking each other wetin happen but nobody seemed to know as we chased after him. Finally we got to Oshodi Isale and he shouted again by this time we were like 30 people running after him all of us with Jerry Can in one hand. He shouted again "Won Ti Bere Oooooo!!!!!! He continued running towards Iyana Isolo and finally after getting to Iyana Isolo he stopped and we were all gasping for breath both Men and Women some with pot bellies, I moved close to him and asked Kini won bere? champion of a food competition in Uganda, reports

Nigerian has been beleveled by massive
unemployment in recent years. Many jobs are
being lose and few jobs are being create mainly by
the private sectors. One of the essential reasons of
having a higher education is to secure a better
job. Though in Nigeria, there are limited jobs avaliable when compare with large number of job seeker. Despite government policy and their perceived conviction of finding a lasting solution for unemployment and youth empowerment, much has not been changed recently. In as much as the content of this article is not about unemployment, but it helps to drive us and shine more light about choosing courses or programme in our universities for a better employability. In these tough unemployment condition where more graduates are joining already graduated student in search of a better job, for future students planning to enroll for their higher education degrees in Nigeria univerisities, there is need to consider and choose a course that holds a better future for you than just going to university because you want to follow other or you want to please society for being a graduate. I stand to be corrected. In most developed world, the department of labour and statistic usually publish a labour outlook report which predicts jobs that will be in high demand currently and within a stipulated time-frame based on economic trend. This is a vital information for those who wish to switch field and students about enrolling on for a course in the university, but there is no such statistic in Nigeria which could server as a guide. Which course hold a better future for you in Nigeria in term of employment and reasonable payment?. I do not in anyway wish the bring down any field or profession but the fact still remains that in Nigeria, there are some fields that you hardly see an advert about a vacant position. Some of the course that I listed here can be rewarding with high chance of employment and big bucks salary. 1. Health care Health care is an indispensible area in human endeavour. We can carry out activities soundly only when we are healthy. No matter the way you look at it Medicine as a course hold better employment opportunity. There are other mergering field within the medical field, biomedical engineering, telemedicine ect. that can boost you chance of employment. 2. Engineering Engineering is without mention a good field to choose. Many will argue with me that there are a lot of engineering graduates that loiters along the street with no job. Beside being true but the opportunities are glaring. If you are thinking of engineering course, I presumably beleive that telecommunication specialities is that bomb. things like antenna technology and signal processing. Also the next hot area within computer is mobile apps. Almost every tech guy in Nigeria is preaching about web development and design while limited companies are in mobile apps world. You can fit in by learning java for Java 2 ME and andriod apps or objective C for Iphone and Ipad apps development. 3. Environmental The whole world is pushing and moving towards green evironment, green production and green energy. Alternative energy is an emegring area that will bring back life to graduate who followed this path in the degrees. The courses to consider within these areas are biotechnology (biogas production), solar energy generation and bio- remediation. 4. Marketing Almost every company is in the business to make profit. As Nigerian economy constantly expands and grows, there will be a continous need for marketers who will use their professional skills to make sure that their products are not only produce but customers are waiting for it to be produce. Consider Marketing within the faculty of management science. 5. Designers Graphic design, animator and video game designer is a constantly growing area in Nigeria that might interest you. If you are interested, you can choose to study computer graphics in the university, I wish to emphasis that passion drives most of the things we enjoy doing. Make sure that the passion is there before starting. This is not the exhausted list of the best study field or professions that has a better opportunity and possible big salary. Ibadan – Satguru Maharaji ji, the founder of One Love Family, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to use traditional means to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency. Maharaj ji gave the advice on Sunday in Ibadan at a press conference to mark the 35th anniversary of the One Love Family in Nigeria. He said that this approach became necessary in order to overcome the incessant killing of innocent people by the terrorist group. Maharaji ji said traditional leaders have some powerful traditional deities that could help find solution to the Boko Haram insurgency within weeks. “If the traditional leaders are involved in the process of addressing the issue, the crisis will soon be forgotten. “The president needs to consult people such as me and other traditional leaders to break the myth surrounding the Boko Haram terrorist movement. “They do not know the teachings of Islam and need to be dealt with traditionally because they are being used by some people and they use religion as a cover to create trouble,’’ Maharaj ji said. Maharaj ji lauded Buhari for his initiative on salary cut, adding that more steps needed to be taken in reducing the cost of governance. He also advised Buhari to set up a Salary Restructure Committee to look into the salaries and allowances of the President, Vice President, members of the National Assembly and ministers with a view to reducing their emoluments. “The committee would come out with a uniform salary scale and allowances that would not be as much as the present one. “This would be better than an individual cutting his salary and the others not doing so. “The money generated from this reduction can be used for development projects that would have direct impact on the ordinary masses,’’ he said. He also urged the president to monitor the constituency allowances being given to the National Assembly members by ensuring that the money was being used judiciously. “In order to eradicate corruption, the politicians should be made to swear with the god of iron instead of using Quran and Bible during their inauguration. “This will bring sanity into the system and prevent political office holders from stealing public funds because thunder will strike the thieves among them to death instantly,’’ he said. Often times i av been disturbed by state of health of some people..SOMETIMES i do wonder if we have medical personnel at all. There is no blessed day when one would not hear of an occurrence of a new ailment or the other not to talk of the prevailing ones. Who knows may be the medical personnel are not been taught well or ARE THEY THE ONE THAT DO NOT APPLYING WHAT THEY HAVE LEARNT IN SCHOOL to tackle the challenges of everyday SADLY, they themselves do fall victim of one of those diseases.. if all wishes were to be granted..i would love to become ARISTOTLE so that i would find solution to any challenges that comes across my way...... pls let say our view about THIS |

A supporter of President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, identified as Abubakar Duduwale, has set for a walk from Yola in Adamawa State to Abuja. He told newsmen in Yola on Saturday at the ouset of the walk that the adventure was to express his joy over the emergence of Buhari as president- elect. Duduwale, from Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State and Chamba by tribe, reportedly began the journey at Yola Gate on Yola-Numan highway at about 6.30am. He said he had wanted to start the journey a day after the Independent National Electoral Commission announced Buhari as the winner of the March 28 presidential election, but noted that somebody from Lagos pre-empted him. “The reason why I am trekking from Yola to Abuja is to express my joy and solidarity with President-elect Muhammadu Buhari. “I want to trek from Yola to Abuja to witness the inauguration ceremony of President-elect,” Duduwale said.
