Career / Re: Are There Agencies That Can Help You Find A Job in Nigeria? by RandyX: 1:25am On Jul 03, 2021
Apologies for my long reply. There are just too many things wrong in the system.

Gerrard59:

There exist such agencies/agents. My senior colleague in school used them when he graduated from his MSc program at Unilag. I did my findings and got to know that the jobs advertised depends on your preferred industry (obviously, there are certain limit). I did not follow up with the jobs offered because I was paid more than the amount by my family's business and in a quiet city compared to rowdy Lagos.

Note: This was when the economy was relatively OK, herdsmen's killings were not as bad as they are presently, one could travel from Kogi to Enugu/Kano to Lagos in relative peace. Whether those agents have jobs to advertise today is a topic for another day.

Why you think that those jobs advertised online are scams is because there are way more unemployed Nigerians than advertised jobs. Nigeria is home to the second highest number of unemployed youths. Remember that the GDP rate has not exceeded 3% in the PAST SIX YEARS going to SEVEN. Prior to when refined Olodos masquerading as intellectuals (actually intellectwats) campaigned and voted for Buhari in 2015, the GDP rate was above 6% and going to 7% annually. Before they lie that the price of crude oil was high during GEJ's era, the price actually fell below $50 pb yet the GDP rate stood above 6%. Jobs were plentiful!!!!!! In summary, compared to GEJ's era, the economy is not growing. Thus, jobs are scarce and hard to come by. Blame Nigerians who voted for a reformed democrat, and if you did partake in it, you deserve whatever economy is throwing at you.

Another well placed comment. I have not really been in the country for too long. Last time I was here, the situation was still bad but somewhat manageable (about 10 years ago). I left because I thought things were bad, but coming back now, it seems worse than before.

As regards the political landscape, I remember voicing my disgust at the fact that each of the successive presidential election winners were the ones who boycotted the televised presidential debates. I asked people online in 2015 why they couldn’t demand for better flagbearers from the parties. Unfortunately, these people placed too much emphasis on wealth and popularity, instead of on demonstrated ability and goodwill, so I was told to get lost.

Apart from the obvious terrible government policies, corruption and outright ill-purposed tax system, I think a lot of things are amiss. First of all, uncontrolled migration (unwanted immigrants and our valuable human capital assets emigrating to find greener pastures elsewhere) resulting in an accelerated rate of national brain drain. Conversely, you have a massive influx of largely uneducated persons trooping in from all corners of the country’s porous borders with no checks on where they live or if they actually return to where they originally come from. You can’t feed a nation that is multiplying with liabilities every second. If we should swap locations with countries like China today, Nigeria would become a first world country and China would become a 3rd world country. China has a large population too, but what they do different is their investment in the intellect of her people. Nigeria raises brains for first world countries to snatch up when ripe and then helps Niger, Benin, Chad and other neighbour countries gulp up the rejects of their respective societies.

The job market is over saturated with job seekers because more than 80% of the population are just seeking jobs to survive and not because they are qualified or really want them. You must have read about the Immigration recruitment tragedy of 2014 where 6.5 million people applied for just 4000 jobs. You find a vacancy for a cashier bank job with 200,000 applicants. 150,000 of them studied botany or horticulture.

The government has forgotten or lost the essence of its role in nation building through education. Why establish/maintain courses (that the populace spend their hard earned money to attain in the higher institutions) that have no thriving market or industry ready for its graduates? More than 80% of graduates who decide to establish new industries or import new ones that exist overseas to the shores of Nigeria are unable to thrive or create jobs due to insecurity, disenfranchisement, power outage, crude dim witted and outdated policies, megalomaniac law enforcement agencies carrying out illegal oppression of businesses with impunity, mafia/banditry systems threatening business owners and outright modern day slavery.

There are several other reasons for the mass unemployment which I can not list here but the most important question we should ask is: what is the solution?

I think the principle of demand and supply should have led various agencies to pop up in a bid to solve the unemployment problem. However, lack of sincerity and corruption seems to turn these agencies into criminal/fraudulent ventures seeking to just take money and not deliver service. The same is true for those who work in the majority of such agencies, they just work for the money not that they really value helping others find jobs. I had a friend who once told me that he asked a job search agent to find him a job in a multinational. The agent bluntly told him (after receiving payment of course) that if she(agent) couldn’t find a job in a multinational for herself and ended up here as a job search agent, what makes him think if she finds one she wouldn’t ditch the agency work and take it, rather than help him? This is the kind of mindset we are dealing with.

There arent many online job adverts. Hotnigerianjobs the most reliable job portal in Nigeria has around 300 new jobs everyday with majority of them paying in the 30 to 50k salary range. The others are GNLD and a few good tech jobs. Other countries in Europe have thousands of job posts everyday.
That’s interesting. How then do the people who get jobs find them?

There's none really. There's very few jobs in Nigeria for such business model to ever make sense except the company wants to scam applicants.
Thanks for your very honest response. This just makes me wonder where the country is headed. So many questions come to mind:
Why are there so many online adverts for non available jobs in Nigeria? Why are there no jobs? I thought the problem has been lack of qualified hands for the jobs that exist, but it seems there is something darker here. How does the economy thrive with little or no jobs available?

I’m starting to think the online jobs I see in Nigeria are hoax placed on purpose to draw traffic to their sites for SEO rankings.

So I’m curious to know, are there any agencies you could pay to do the job search on your behalf in Nigeria? I don’t mean those shady ones that collect your money and tell you stories. I mean high quality agents that know how job search is done professionally who would help you apply to places that match your qualifications and get you a proper interview in record time. I have highly desirable work ethics and traits, and have very outstanding experience and educational qualifications both home and abroad, I’m just not the type to run around with a brown envelope gate crashing offices in a suit, shirt n tie.

GRACEGLORY:

I’m sorry ‘bout your experience boss. As touching the smaller TV board, if they’re same model, it may work and not fully functional, if different models, it won’t work. Same remote works for same brands to some extent, but doesn’t mean they have same boards.

As touching the replaced board, that must have been cos the tech guy couldn’t find the actual board, that other one could be repaired, but would develop same fault and more later.

So, two options, do with the HD board, or be on the lookout for the actual board.

Bless

Thanks for responding.

The TV was working perfectly abroad. After shipping it stopped working. So I’m guessing since the TV didn’t get bad in operation it might have been rough handled by the shippers. The repairer told me it was backlight only to end up changing the board. Is it that the backlight for TVs have to come with the board? If I take just the board to another repairer do you think they can solve the problem for me? 3D TVs are no longer being produced, I would not have spent so much to have it shipped if I knew I was going to end up with a normal hd tv at the end of the day.

So you say it’s possible for the smaller tv board to work with a bigger screen?

I may have to get someone to swap the boards with the smaller one to see if it works. Hopefully this sorts out my problem.

I will be fully satisfied if the smaller tv was just a normal hD tv and the bigger one was 3d
Technology Market / Re: ♨️⭕️⚙️⏯️ GRACEGLORT TV Repair & Services. ⏯️ ⚙️ ⭕️ ♨️ by RandyX: 11:21pm On Jan 24, 2021
Please friend, I have a problem.

My 50 inch 3D TV i have had for 5 years was fine but early last year occasionally made a static sound when the display is dark e.g the cast screen at the end of a movie or when source is changed to a page that has just a blank black display. When the screen is bright, the sound stops.

Now the issue is, I shipped this particular tv to Nigeria in november last year when i moved to nigeria and on arrival, I tried to turn the tv on, but it will flash light and go back off or perhaps it remains on but with no display or backlight (I.e screen appears like when tv is off).

The situation: I took the tv to a local repair man in lagos one morning who told me it was the backlight. He asked me to leave the tv with him and come back in the evening when he must have had it repaired. In the afternoon, I saw him on a bike with the tv at Alaba market. He didn't see me. When I got to his shop in the evening, he told me he had to change the motherboard. Now remember this was a 3D TV. Unfortunately the board he replaced it with, was an ordinary HD tv motherboard. So the tv now works but its lost the 3D capabilities. Its just an ordinary tv now. I was so upset that I had lost the 3D capabilities.

Luckily he still had the 3D motherboard that was removed and gave it to me.

I was just wondering if there was anything that could have been done to repair the 3D motherboard instead of having it changed entirely as the tv worked perfectly before I shipped it.

Also, I have a slightly smaller functional 3D TV that works with the same remote as the 50 inches. I was wondering if I could swap the motherboards so I can get the 3D capabilities back on the big one.

Sorry for long post.

CHANGE? You Will Be Shocked At What I Saw In This Govt. Office. (photos)

In a Country where it's extremely difficult to find any public office that actually works, I hardly expected much but my experience at Warri Passport Office left me stunned.

I have decided to share this because we as citizens owe it as a duty to bring to public knowledge the ills in our public institutions. In same vein, posterity will hold us accountable if we do not commend those that at least tried to make a difference. Having been away from the Country for close to a decade, I have decided to come back home a little earlier and uppermost in my agenda was the renewal of my Nigerian passport. At Lagos ,my siblings had advised that I handle the renewal when I got into my good old town of Warri as the town now boasts of a Passport Office. I actually agreed to this with mixed feelings knowing what the hustle and bustle of anything Warri used to be like. Few days after I arrived Warri, I left for the passport office not knowing what to expect in the company of my two siblings.

My first shock came when at the main gate of the Delta State Government House Annex, manned by different security agencies, a young Immigration officer almost magically appeared beside the passenger door of my car and politely asked; " sir, how may we help you?" For the first few seconds, I was pleasantly surprised and wondered if this was happening in the same Nigeria we have been reading so much filth about.

On realising that I had come to renew my expired passport, this same man politely directed us where to park the car and proceeded with us in tow to where he called the 'servicom' desk. By this time, I had taken a quick assessment of the environment and besides a sign on the wall that reads, "welcome to Warri Passport Office" , there was nothing to tell me I was in a Passport office. I mean, no crowd, no hustling and bustling that is synonymous with your average passport office. At this point, I have become very apprehensive. My mind kept screaming, scam!

Anyway, now at the servicom desk, I met about two people already filling out forms and I joined them while wondering where everyone else was if truly I was in the right place. Few minutes later, one of the officers at the desk ushered us into a fully air conditioned semi hall where over fifty people were comfortably seated watching a news channel on a wide LCD television. Again, I wondered but this time at the serenity and orderliness of the crowd. Something definitely is not right, I reasoned. Then, just as we were settling down, a voice came through the speakers installed somewhere: " Attention please , Numbers.....to....,please move to room 3 to collect your passports". I was still wondering if truly this was Nigeria when another voice called out this time a set of names directing them to two different rooms conspicuously marked SCREENING AND APPROVALS. The orderliness was so amazing that for a moment, I realised that this Country can work again. By now, my inquisitive mind was asking so many questions and as if in answer to one of these numerous questions, a young lady in well fitted uniform emerged from the room marked 'screening and walked briskly into the room marked 'approval'. She emerged from the room in less than two minutes and in very clear voice called out about ten names of people that she asked to follow her for capturing.

I was stunned and took a quick glance at my wrist watch as people left the room in batches creating room for new entrants like myself. My watch revealed that I had spent about forty two minutes when I heard my name over the speakers. I quickly entered the room that I was directed to and met about four busy officers again in an air conditioned room. The interview was brisk, thorough BUT professional.

In all it took an hour and 52 minutes from the time I sat down at the servicom desk to submit my application before my number was announced to go to room 3 for collection of my passport.

Albeit this sounds too good to be true, I must confess that till this moment of writing, I am still wondering how a public office in Nigeria can be so organised , comfortable , courteous and efficient.

Definitely, all hope is not lost in this Country, trust me.

Sorry for quoting an old post but could anyone tell me the address of this passport office in warri? Asking for my cousin. Would be much appreciated.

Most useless thread ever. So the so called UK based guy looking for wife has no family in Nigeria to do the search on his behalf? No serious minded man will come online in a chase for a wife. As for the ladies sending PMs, good luck. I hope your esteems won't be trashed cos he's only gonna select one at the expense of the rest. As for me, with all the degrees I don gather, the only time I'd send out my CV is in a search for job and not some abroad based nigga. If you want a wife, you'd do the chasing not otherwise. As for the UK nigga, CV keeee you dia..
I am the one posting this online to help him find a decent lady. The country he lives in, it's very normal for people to meet online and when I discussed it with him he had no problems with that. How else do you expect him to meet his Nigerian sweetheart?. His family may not know the exact hidden characteristics of the lady they think is best for him and even if they do, in the end he still has to communicate and build rapport with that person to see if there can be any chemistry yeah? so how do you expect him to do that? By teleporting to and fro? What if they don't connect? Perhaps she prefers a Korean instead? Family arrangement is restricting due to family expectations getting in the way of individual commitment to truly desiring each other. Online is liberating as no one is committed prior to their respective decisions to want to move things further or not.

If not, sorry is your case...if you want experience, I will show you two different young ladies that all these Obodo oyinbo guys have impregnated with I want to marry you and take you abroad.

These two young ladies are seating with babies now, no marriage, no Visa, no abroad, no or scanty child support from the "I want to marry you and take you abroad"

The guys have long returned to their abroad, hardly send child support, the ladies have been turned to baby Mama's and left alone to care for the kids. The ladies are looking depressed and dejected everyday.

Why do I have a gut feeling that this whole thing would boomerang for the ladies involved and may be used as a means to blackmail them?
Let's hope we don't get to read awry stories on NL after a while
Not everyone lives a life of dishonesty. I have insisted time without number that ladies here don't subject themselves to random people sending them dms, or posting their numbers here. Those who would be sending an email to the account provided would not have their nairaland monikers displayed when they send an email and neither does my friend know who is who on NL as he isn't on NL himself. They are even free to create a new email address to use if they want. I can't see the possible harm with the way I have gone about it. Don't be surprised when the pastor tells them he has a husband for you. It will be one of his followers or fellow pastors that he has promised wife. This your boyfriend probably doesn't attend his church and he wants you to marry someone from his church to grow his membership.

The pastor may be looking for his pocket, If you marry from his followership you would start a family and automatically his church becomes your family church and that means you and your children are automatically members for life, Eternal tithe is guaranteed.

More membership = more offering = more money.

That's why I like Catholics. Their reverends are transferred from time to time, no time for one pastor to start planning how to open business for him church members head.

My dear pray yourself and if God doesn't show you the red flag after sometime, go ahead and marry him.
