Nice one Sir. I want to buy Zenith for N1.
RabbiDoracle:

I agree with you but you can beat devaluation with buying stocks at ridiculously low price.

Imagine buying Zenith at N5. grin

Sold last week because I knew this week will see Noah's Ark set sail. The flood is here!

I'm at home watching everything on TV.

It may end up at N10 oooooo. The outlook this morning is not good. Same with Gtbank, UBA FBNH and Access
pluto09:

With the current state of oil in the international market, Zenith at N10 is a possibility though I don't think that will happen in just a week.
Investment / Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by rebekah2011(m): 9:36am On Mar 09, 2020
Sebi, your 4% is back in the market too. You hope to pick Zenith at N10 from some people. This year 2020 is really looking like it is a planting year.
RabbiDoracle:

grin grin

When Noah was sailing in his ark, he still felt pity for those that the flood ravaged.

The ark has set sail. Those in the ark (mattress gang) are looking with awe and pity.

The day it goes southward he should please come and tell us too.

Nice!!
We should know that rise or fall doesn't move on straight line perpetually and somewhere in the middle, bargains still surface. Market monitoring is key to traders' spotting bargains too.

That their statement of financial position get as e be. The liabilities are huge. They also need to rein in the operating costs as soon as possible.

This is how they are going to overtake zenith and Gtb.

Zenith and Stanbic are not mates. Zenith is a solid business. There are no audio earnings anywhere.
PETERiCHY:

We are talking of efficient STANBIC with their portable 10.5B OS not Zenithbk with their audio earnings and over-bloated OS

It is based on the calculation that the stock would be marked down and the likelihood of it dropping further cannot be excused. They also point to the withholding tax that will be taken away from the dividend, but what they also completely ignore is the cost of selling and buying back the same shares. It is possible that UCAP may likely sell at N2.50 or less next week. It is their own way of preserving their capital and giving themselves bonus shares (you have more units of the same stock)
Mcy56:
One thing I noticed is that some people do run away from getting dividend with the intention to come back after markdown, but I just think if the fund is not urgently needed, one can always buy, get the dividend and still wait for price appreciation later.......that's if the person didn't enter at bargain price.
Me, I will soon become an investor grin ...but will still be doing jijo sha. tongue

PS: This is just my opinion.
Investment / Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by rebekah2011(m): 10:22am On Mar 06, 2020
You must have been scammed. There is no way you will buy a shares before the qualification date and be denied your dividend.
pluto09:

I have shared my experience on this before.
I bought a stock 2 days to qualification date and I was not paid the dividend.
The explanation giving by my broker was this nonsense T+3 days settlement thing.

I will like others to share their experience.

CBN has even made it better now that cheques of other banks lodged in the bank before 10 am will get value by the end of the day. the effective date is March 6, 2020. Well done Oga OGG
onegentleguy:

Not at all bro !!
...Anyone who keys into UCAP today, WILL definitely qualify for the 50k dividend !!(I already gave enough guide to this qualification thing in times past)
The T+3 is for funds settlement. ...but even then, there are brokers who'd remit ur funds to u even earlier than the 3 days circle. In retrospect, it can be T+X days(where x can be 0, 1 or 2 days). This, though depends on the brokerage firm, ur portfolio size and ur relationship with them.
The only exception is if u had applied for funds remittances via the DCS(direct cash settlement), then it'll have to be T+2 days with proceeds remitted on the 2nd day if it falls into a working day,(btw mon-fri) or otherwise, the next closest working day.

If T+3 days were used for security/share lodgement, then it would be impossible to buy and sell ur shares in coys on the same day.
An investor who buys today, is simply added to the register while the seller is removed prior to mark down on Monday 9th Feb.
So YES, he qualifies !!

Hope its clearer now.

which account are you looking at Sir.
emmanuelewumi:

Everything is wrong with this bank, made a total revenue of about N150 billion which is less than the profit of some big banks, made a profit after tax of less N30 million.

I hope they are not coming to the market for a public offer and a offer for sale.
A dividend of 25k, first of its kind in 12 years is suspicious.

I don't want to think they were forced to pay dividends after SEC frowned at how some companies Union Bank inclusive will not pay dividends but have resources to give shareholders who attend AGM between 10k to 100k depending on the shareholder and his clout

In his early days, I am sure he must have done more than what majority of us is doing now.
seyisanya:
Warren Buffett is operating in a more regulated and sane clime, and though his strategy can be duplicated anywhere else around the world, one still needs to be mindful of our own peculiar market(NSE).

Besides, sir Warren who has been announcing that he was heavily in cash for a while now before he decided to strike again this past Monday was a good indicator that after he must have done in-depth research on good companies in his books, he monitored the market for the right time to strike!
Investment / Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by rebekah2011(m): 9:39am On Mar 05, 2020
what I believe you refer to monitoring is sitting behind the computers and checking prices of companies where you have investments every time? No sane person will do this every time. But do you get daily updates of price movements on the NSE? Do you look at your investments to see how to keep into buying more at good entry prices or sell when targets are met? All I know is that I monitor my investments and I am also looking for more money to buy more when the opportunities present itself.
pluto09:

You didn't discover MTN, DC, Zenith and GT to be a good companies by looking at fluctuations in daily price..

Let me ask you this question, what do you gain by monitoring live the fluctuations in prices of your zenith bank? Mind you, you can always buy more by setting your buy limit order as price falls.
Investment / Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by rebekah2011(m): 9:34am On Mar 05, 2020
audit fees is not a function of your coy being a listed or not- listed. If you want to have access to cheaper funds via the investing public, you must be ready to face public scrutiny. I believe the regulations for non-financial coys are not even enough. It should be more.
OBAGADAFFI:

I think the cost and stress of doing business on the NSE is too high for some companies.

Just look at Audit fees alone, it very high.

Investment / Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by rebekah2011(m): 9:17am On Mar 05, 2020
Should an investor in Zenith bank or Gtbank be disturbed when the prices keep dropping or this should spur him or her to buy more knowing fully well that the banks have been performing better year on year. I have been looking at Dangote cement for a while now, the latest results is not that encouraging as many indicators of the company's results did not make me excited but at N100 / N120 it will be too good for me to ignore. Ditto with MTN at any price below N100 will be a good entry price. Whenever I achieve (100% gains) if I am able to, in any of these company's. I will book my capital and find other opportunities around the investment space. Should I also look at the prices every day? Yes, I do and do I read the financials? Yes I do but not as much as I will want to because my holdings in them have not yet reached 10% or 5%. Please monitor your investments oooo.
pluto09:

I see you more as a trader and I don't think that is bad.
A trader can be successful just like an investor . .
Being a successful trader or investor requires different strategies and skills.
Monitoring live trades everyday is for trader and not for investors ( I never said that is bad or wrong)

An investor is more concerned with what is happening in the company he has invested and not the daily fluctuations in price. He can monitor is investment by following his companies with evaluation of quarterly reports and the economy at large.
The only time he will be active in the market is when he has identified a stock to buy or to sell so as to get the best bargain.

Not all banks can fold at any time. Any business that is badly run no matter how systemic important it is, it will go down. Gtbank and Zenith bank the way they are currently being managed cannot fold up any minute. There has to be signs at first.
maishai:

Banks are very dicy, remember Lehman Brothers, very sweet company with great financials numbers, even paid dividends a year before they wind down..................All Banks including GT can fold any minute especially if Coys in their loan books become troubled, Skye, Diamond comes to mind........ When the going is good for Banks, its fantastic but when the going is bad Banks are the most catstrophic investment
