Chapters of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have voted to continue the ongoing strike.

The decision was reached after a nationwide referendum conducted by the chapters of the union on Tuesday to decide whether to suspend the strike or not.

It will be recalled that the nation was saved from tragedy on Saturday as the helicopter, Augusta AW139, conveying Vice-President Prof Yemi Osinbajo crash-landed in Kogi State.

The incident occurred in Kabba, where the VP had visited in continuation of his engagement of Nigerians on the ‘Next Level’ re-election plan of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Federal Government has released N16.8 billion to settle outstanding salary arrears of staff in the country’s tertiary institutions.

The Governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima, on Monday, said his government has mobilised hundreds of local hunters to be inducted into the ongoing counterinsurgency operation in the state.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has rejected the offers made to it early this week by the Nigerian government and has continued its ongoing strike.

At the seventh meeting with the leadership of ASUU on Tuesday, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, said the labour dispute with the university teachers was on the verge of being resolved. He listed the fresh concessions made by the administration to ASUU.
