my questions for you are:

(1) What was your fertilizer Management.

Hybrid maize is nothing without fertilizer just as broilers can't attain the required weight without feeding with formulated feeds.

(2) weed management: did u manage the weed well?

If u know u can't afford to follow GAP, don't plant hybrid

What is GAP

Ross 308 is good. Really, I'm not sure how Sayed's Ross 308 is inferior to Agrited's. I was tempted to buy Sayed one time, but I saw a youtube video where both hatcheries were compared from days 1 to 42, and Agrited won hands down. So, the management of Agrited seems to outperform that of Sayed.

Can u help me with the link of this video? Thanks

If factories vaccinate against with ND-IB, why do farmers vaccinate against new castle and Infectious bronchitis again?
Only Agrited I know vaccinate against ND-IB, others don't.
Also, you'd need at least 2 vaccinations to confer full immunity (that's if the vaccination were successful)

Hmm, Just as my mum suspected. Thanks for the info. What specie do you recommend ?
For 6wks market, go for Ross308 from either Agricted or Sayed. Above 6wks, preferably go for AA from any of them popular hatcheries breeding AA like Chi, Fidan or Amos.

Well done op.
However, something is wrong with the birds having cough at that early stage, and I don't think your handling of it is poor, so I'm not sure it's from your handling.
Checking the birds and the carton, I doubt it's from Agrited. Kindly check the seal by the carton side if it's intact, also, Agrited normally dye their birds, so you can easily confirm if the color you got tally with the date, your birds do not looked dyed, so I doubt the source.
Btw, next time, don't insist on a product except you want to go to the hatchery yourself for such product, don't trust any agent. Just request for prices of different product and make your decision from there, if you prefer Agrited, call them to request for the agent or rep in your state.
I don't know your state, but considering the weather, 2½ bag of charcoal is a little much, try save cost, the temperature from day 1 is around 36⁰ then it reduces gradually. I used 1bag for for 3cycles(200, 100, 100) here in Lagos.
The tylo you are giving them, kindly stop it so they don't build resistance against it, give them a lighter drug, so if they should fall sick tomorrow, you can easily use it and they will respond.
Tylo and Amoxicol are little too strong for baby birds.
You can get doxycycline and administer only prevention dose for them, it will treat them, no need to use treatment dose, as that's a double dose which might be too strong.
Well done once again, dey no go die, and you go live to eat your reward.
Regards to Mama. God bless all mothers.

The only agrited birds that I have gotten and are colored are their Cockerel. I have been picking up birds directly from their hatchery for over a year now.
Secondly, the CRD is caused by the vaccination done at the Hatchery.

Yeah. My mum thinks its the bolded

It's not the cold, you got Agrited bird, and their birds usually come down with crd around 3-5 days of age. Their doctor said it's because of the ND-IB vaccines they spray them with in the Hatchery

Thanks for this contribution. Points well noted. We manage the unlimited resources that we have nio. I spent 12k for one truck and transport. It's that cheap cos it's not the regular truck. These were done by some hustling guys. I'll be adding two more cos the two truckloads initially budgeted don't look like they're going to be enough. We felt sand is the cheapest and we'll be going for that. Thank you for once again.

OK Goodluck. I'll be watching how the sand pans out, I can pick up ba thing or two hopefully from your work

You can use wood shavings up to a year with proper litter management. Make a litter dept of not less than 4inches, don't overcrowd, ensure your pen is not enclosed but well ventilated, pack out water spillage immediately. Your pen construction should not be more than 2 coaches for proper ventilation. The reason farmers have litter problems that eventually cause diseases and smell is because they are always managing wood shavings lol. I know some areas it's not free but purchased, but investing on your litter will save you a whole lot of stress. The bulk of poultry disease comes from bad litter. Have a very dry litter with good ventilation and disease outbreak will be very minimal. Also spacing. Having 6" litter dept ain't enough if you're going to overcrowd. The litter would quickly form cake.

In business management, low skill jobs requires easy application method. Attendant jobs are mostly done by those that did not atrend tertiary school. Thus telling them to email you will reduce the number of job applicants because they are yet to figure out how email works.

What do you actually want a lowskill labourer to include in his email, his CV?

Include the office number so that interested candidates can call, and if you are scared of releasing your phone number because of your privacy, you can outsource the job application to a recruitment company.

Thanks

This is exactly my thought. Wetin op dey expect attendants to put for CV grin

My friend was complaining to yesterday dat out 5o birds he started with 20 died there left with 30...

I was consoling him yesterday to take it as first time experience,

I never knew they don't sleep in darkness...

What advice can u give us, the new learner

Don't provide lighting and they'll sleep at night, but your birds won't grow fast. To sell at 5-6wks, birds need to feed for about 22hrs daily. Give them lighting with feed at night.

For your friend to record a whooping 40% dead, he did so many things wrong. His biosecurity was zero.

He needs to work on litter management, the major cause of disease and death in poultry if not properly mainaged

Then his drugs and vaccination schedule should be religiously followed. Wrong handling and administration of vaccine would lead to vaccine failure would lead to vaccine failure, and your birds can get infected with the diseases Vaccinated against.

Always always disinfect your hands and feet wears before entering your pen and handling poultry equipments. You must be an hygiene freak if you don't want to cry premium tears

@IamAsiri
Yeah, very accurate, but the nutient content of what you feed the worms depends on the quality of the worms. There are so many hacks you need to learn about the process. Gradually, you will get it.

These are tricks we should adopt in a nation where feed is crazily expensive. The one I use in my model, I use the same feed all round. I use fermented products more cos they are already broken down into digestible food for them. And then, I add vitamins, other macro nutrients....etc. what I do is just too add corn to it. That's all...and it is better than any feed you can talk of. Better than the almighty ultimate feed, hybrid feed, or whatsoever. Even better than concentrates from Holland. Worm feed is crazily expensive ooo. Even worm supplements for human is on the high side.

The manure is also super.

The downside is the labor and the effort required. Also, the cost of set up can be high for the common man. It is cheap or should I say affordable, but the poverty rate in Nigeria is extremely high. You need to make boxes or buy plastic trays for them. You need a flood light, power it with solar or battery where electricity is bad. Lagos people can feel me. Lol. A helping hand is also needed as you grow.

If you learn it well, trust me...you are going to make so much profit.

Talking about Urban farming...instead of having so many chickens, this is a way one can optimized profit. From 50 docs, if one fattening them to 3kg, and one makes around N1 000 per chicken, you may be able to get twice of that when you replace soy with it.

At the fermentation, I am noting this down.

Wow, you seemed to have really tested this. Thanks so much for this, my body is gingered. When I do start I'll open a thread and tag you to it so you can be throwing 1 or 2 guidance

Can they also feed on animal dungs like rabbit droppings? I once saw a YouTube video of a woman in Uganda that generates BSF larvae from pig dung thereby getting two different products for sale - organic fertilizer from the dung broken down by the larvae and the BSF larvae.

Yes, they can feed on any bio waste; animal wastes, kitchen and restaurant wastes, fruit waste, brewery wastes etc.
Agriculture / Re: Brainstorm With Me by RichieMichie: 11:01am On Jul 22, 2022

Definitely it is worth doing. In fact, your livestocks (chickens, quails, turkeys, fish, etc) will convert it into flesh more than soy. It is very good.

I optimized it for someone recently. I gave him a program that he followed strictly so that the protein content if all his production batches will be +/- 3% difference. The protein content was higher than that of soya beans "far far".

You need an artificial light if you want be successful in it. It makes life easier. Also, you need a source of feed for the larvae. Transportation is another issue. If you are able to sport these things out, you will make a lot of profit.

All you have to do is find a very source of Corn...and add some additives to block toxins inside the grains.

Yes, if I was doing poultry or any other livestock, it will be my source of protein for supplements.

For now, starting small, cause I am doing my nysc. Later on when I secure a good funding, I plan on collating cassava peel as the biowaste source for the larvae as it is abundant in my area. But this would be a little bit challenging, but I'll scale through.

The artificial light, definitely. Raising them in an enclosure is best for optimal production. BSF larvae production is really huge, it has the potential as I have been reading and watching to solve the age long protein scarcity for livestock, the most expensive feed nutrient. I have been so obsessed with it for a few months now since hearing about its potentials. Other African countries are already going big on it, Kenya, Uganda, I wonder why giant of Africa is slacking. There's this Kenya insect research company ICIPE - International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology, that's into research on it now, given training and funding to farmers to go into it.

Our biggest challenge here in the livestock industry is the expensive protein ingredients and their scarcity. This can completely solve that I think.
I just can't wait to start the production and taste of its goodness for myself
Agriculture / Re: Brainstorm With Me by RichieMichie: 3:10pm On Jul 20, 2022
I am looking to go into black soldier fly larvae production. What do you think are the prospects of it replacing soya and fish meal me?

Note: the production of it would be from bio wastes that would be gotten from cheap to no cost

I have received so many messages that I cannot keep ignoring them. Well, I must say that I am not impressed with the leadership here. It is really a messed up set up. In any way, many have been asking me what they should do. OK. I noticed my threads have been inspirational to many and many bookmarked my old threads. For sure, the gems inside those threads are loaded. I deliberately opened secrets in those threads. But your consultants here are always angry....and some new people who don't know the background story jumped into conclusion the kind of person I am. I can count many of your useless consultants here who pretended to be friends, but you know me na....I knocked off their heads.

What I am up to recently
Covid-19 is an inspirational period for me, and I have diversified into different areas. For me farming is scientific and I have passion for it.

Kidnapping is another issue that has forced me to tone down my operations. Recently, I heard of a farmer who was kidnapped on his 6 plots maize farm in Epe. He spent almost 100 days in the den of the kidnappers after coughing out 5 million naira. How much revenue will 6 plots corn give him?

Do you remember my 40 fruits cucumber thread? Many of the as.sholes here said it is not possible. Why? The level of their knowledge is where they are limited to. grin But we have seen such varieties now being pushed out because of my thread. I told some as.sholes that a seed of good cucumber and tomatoes can cost N10 to N100, and they shouted. Today, there is a seed of cucumber presently sold at N50. I said that around 5 years ago when they have only 1 kobo per seed. Lol.

So you can imagine the kind of improvement that has happened in veggie farming so far. Nigeria is so backward because of the people in it. Most here are dullard. Rank Xerox. Some of the dullards want to use fast one on me to get knowledge and even cheat me. In fact there is one foolish man here who played the prank. I laughed and told him that his business will fall. He felt I was cursing him, but he didnt knkw that I was telling him the reality. I have measured his ability as a microbiologist graduate (maybe he lied) and I have seen that he lacks the capacity of being innovative. Yet, trying to be over smart is where he specializes. grin Some people are professional liars. grin Good people leave such and son he will find himself in the ocean of calamity he created for himself. Guy man came through another new moniker pretending to reside in Australia. grin I only gave him a signal when I reached out to one of the boys I introduced to him. I know that one conveyed my message, and ever since, guy man dropped his stupidity. He was always following me here back to back to steal ideas and put them in some of the posts I have seen as his idea. grin Not saying he shouldn't buga oooooo, but it is sure the guy will fall flat soon. Such cannot make it far. Guy man boasted of having 100 acres and able to buy 200 acres when he was operating on 3 plots or so. But is 3-plot of land not OK? Very very OK. But he wanted to buga of buying 200 acres from an unknown professor. cheesy

But really, what improvement has taken place here? I can see absolutely nothing. Garbage in garbage out. Be honest with yourselves....what significant improvement has occurred on NL in the past 3 years? What new message has been preached are taught here? Personally, I went through all the threads. grin I saw zero.

Well, innovation is the mother of necessity. Ok...I will tell you what I have been doing - Optimizing Urban Mixed Farming Production. And so far, I have improved it. Kidnapping is a blessing in disguise because most of you who go inside the bush shouldn't have in the first place. Your one plot can make you huge profit. In fact, I have started investing in purchasing land 1, 2, 3 to 6 plots in urban areas. Fence it round, and put a temporary structure there. Then, employ just a hand there. That's it. And it has been more rewarding. My income on a plot is more than 1 ha. You heard me right.

Well, like I said earlier when I returned, I will not be teaching anything. I will answer questions, but won't teach anything on NL. It is a disgusting forum with a disgusting owner, and filled with disgusting mods. Esp these Agric mods who are extremely disgusting. Make dem ban me for saying they are all trashes...esp the farm tech who is actually farm back ages... grin

So, their disgusting attitude is why I am mot posting, but I will post probably towards the end of this year to share recap of 2022 and overview of 2023. This post is to tell them that I am still around, and enjoying the messes in Agric section. cheesy

For now, permit me to keep reading stagnacy on NL. grin Same story.... same stupidity... backwardness.

Peace!!!

Truth be heard, I wonder how this agric section became so deserted. Years ago, this place used to be fun, interactive and informative, wealth of information being shared. It was an agric hub. About a 3rd of my agric knowledge came from this section.

The only thing happening here now is advertisements. I wonder how we got here. People don't make meaningful threads again. Heck, the few meaningful ones don't get engagement. How did we get here? How did the mods manage to pursue all her interactive members from here?
I miss the old interactive agric section.
