oga, I agree wit u 100%. pharmacy is not only health based But also enterprising, it mediate's btw medics nd business, do u know hw much those regular pharmacy shop makes as profit daily? Most of the them make as much as 500k per day.... I am nt exaggerating! not to talk of a Pharmacist whom wit his license could open 100 of such shop, and this isn't the most lucrative business aspect of pharmacy. So my brother, if u are going into health care to become a billionaire, pls consider pharmacy. there is stupid money in. or do u Just think people flood there just to open shop nd b selling drugs nd for nothing?

but sha health is not money, it's life... nd for some of us we are there for this purpose?

Education / Re: A Cry For Help By A Student! No Admission Despite Meeting All Requirements. by Richohm(m): 12:56am On Feb 05, 2018
Well, from info I understood that ilorin 's admission is centered on three cardinal points.
(1) mighty leg
(2) religion
(3) and origin
if u can't give a positive answer to these, u are unfortunate as regards it's admission (oyo)...
yet , I wish him gud luck in his/her struggle.... keep 2 the advice given above... such as... contacting the admission office etc, and pls if u really want this admission start sorting for conective tissues, coz in my humble opinion this is not a hidden injustice but it is obvious to the blind, therefore u have no. destination by social medialising it.

and by the way let him/her sit for another jamb nd choose a fairly credible fed school, such as oau, ui.... as rightly stated, facing stiffer competition but certainly guarantee admission if he /she meets the cutoff mark even without knowing any jubital or Saturn nd without bearing any chi Chi or suliyatu.

again I which u God's best.

bro, you nailed it.

my fam with 314 jamb score and good O'level had his course changed from medicine and surgery to AGRIC while a candidate with 246 was given that same medicine and surgery because he's from their catchment area. I remembered Jesus wept.

Such thread will be information deficient. Remember dental students are few..Let alone only those in OAU ? Besides very few of them are on nairaland.

It's better we communicate in a general dentistry thread. I think it's better.
If you have any question, ask I believe they'll always be someone to reply you.

Big congrats on your admission!!!
ok, thank u
. I see ur point.

gud day haus: plenty idobale 2 my many senior colleagues, u r seriously the front horses that the back horses observed 2 leap.

I shud b d happiest person on earth haven got admited into oau dental & dental surgery.

I had run 4 admission to oau Med nd surgery from 2013... sometimes geting close and other times far from it, nd sometimes surpassing dentistry's cutoff mark... but oversight nd lack of insights had made me dash Away precious marks to the Senate of oau.

choosing dentistry last year was not out of fustration but rather experiencial wisdom nd more insight coupled with (divine understanding) underscore the magic decision.

though am learning to fall in love with this wonderful decipline, I am more than convince it will catch my attention.... or wat am I saying... it's got me already... I will give my very best to it...

I also Which 2 summarize hw the journey went wit me as per oau...
jamb (50%)---------281/400:
281/8=35.125
p-utme (40%)------32/40 or 320/400
score=32
ssce (10%) ----------
A=10, B2=9, B3=8, C4=7, C5=6, C6=5
eg, 5A's= 5×10= 50.
then, 50/5= 10
mine was; B3, 3C5, C6
8+6+6+6+5= 31
31/5=6.2
aggregate = utme + putme + ssce = 100%
= 35.125 + 32 + 6.2 = 73.3% or 293.2/400
merit for dentistry = 73.3% or 293.2/400
I was number 21st on the merit list.
it all by the grace of God.
I Hope this will help someone.

once again I give my idobale to all dental & dental surgery in the house, nd also unwavering respect to all dental student, prospects in the rum.
my advice nevertheless to all medical prospects is that "go to the ant and learn"...... be wise and smart......... this noble arm is open for u..... don't give up.... keep pushing

Just ignore Originbm. Dentistry is a noble profession. In Bangladesh, it's still one body - Bangladesh medical and dental council that regulates medicine and dentistry. It's still one body in Pakistan, all African countries, Saudia Arabia, Malaysia, kuwait, iraq, iran. It's in Europe and d US that there are separate bodies regulating d two professions. Even in bangladesh and pakistan, it's one body that regulates postgraduate medicine and dentistry - bangladesh & pakistan colleges of physicians & surgeons (bcps & pcps). After residency training, both are awarded fellow, college of physicians and surgeons (fcps), afterwhich d dentist or d medical doctor becomes a consultant. See d links of drs abdullah al masud & s.m. Balaji (d duo are dentists) performing tongue cancer surgery with radical neck dissection. D links are:

Education / Re: Tell Us How You Got A Fully Funded Scholarship With A Less Than 4.0 GPA by Richohm(m): 11:16pm On Jan 27, 2018
Socratez20:
Scholarships are highly competitive that's a known fact, it becomes more challenging for those with lower grades to compete with all those with first class, 4.0 and above.

However not everyone who graduated with a 2:2 or low 2:1 played their way through school, some were sick, had family challenges and/or experienced one psychological, financial or social trauma but have distinguished themselves and sometimes even surpassing those with higher grades.

But when it comes to scholarships in most cases, grades play an important role before the shortlisting of candidates for interviews.

So if you're out there and you ever got a fully funded Scholarship with less than a 4.00 on a 5.00 scale, say 3.5+ and below or above. Please come and share your experiences and secrets, it will benefit many. Thanks.

Moderators I crave your indulgence to please move this to front page. Thank You

Mandeyy......keep educating him....just educate him wella...
Also tell him that dental surgeons study medicine, surgery (including anastesiology, opthalmolgy, cadiothoracic, pediatric surgery, etc), pharmacology and therapeutics, pathology, basic Med sci, and also have to study restorative dentistry, peadiatrics, preventive and community dentistry, and oral and maxillofacial surgery (including its diagnoses, radiology, medicine and its pathology).........
Tell him that all this are studied simultaneously in 6yrs, such that a dental surgeon is not just a doctor but a special type of doctor.....a dentist!! Or dental surgeon as it is fondly called....
Tell him that a medical doctor studies medicine and surgery, but a dental surgeon studies medicine, surgery and dentistry at same time.....
Tell him that dentistry is not just teeth but the specialty that deals with the medicine, pathology, diagnoses, radiology and surgery of the oral cavity, that maxillo and facial region, the head and some part of the neck.....
Tell him that apart from the dental clinic and an oral maxillofacial units, that in every plastic surgery unit of any standard hospital like uch for instance, that we have a dentist who specialized in oral maxillo facial surgery being among the frontiers of plastic and aesthetic team.....
Tell him that some specialties in dentistry is part of emedicine( emmergency med) ask him how many emmergencies hv been encountered in optometry...
Tell him that there's a field called forensic dentistry for criminal cases and identification during mass accident and fire outbreak like bombing and plane crash....it was one of the measures taken by luth in identification of corpses after dana plane crash.......
Tell him that dentistry re not in the clinic to count teeth...

Just nine dental schools in nigeria, and u say there's no prospect for a country with billions of pple....ah! Oga think nah.....
They re special type of doctors......a doctor and a surgeon at same time
All dentists are doctors but not all doctors are dentists......
Wao! concise and detailed
