Saintinoo:

I think with the increase in pump price of fuel, and considering the fact that you have to ask if 2.5m naira can get a decent car, you shouls suspend that idea of buying a car for now. Fueling and maintaining that car might gulp 2.5m naira before the years runs out. My two cent though.
Depending on the type of car he's going for.
The dealers in front of my office still sell cars on weekly if not daily basis.

Family / Re: How Do I Calculate My Prepaid Meter by Rinoxy: 12:20am On Jan 24
Nazgul:
20k would give you a little over 300 units.

So 6k should give you about 90 something units, and 1k would be between 15-18 units.

I'll recommend you load 6k. So with 90 something units, and all the appliances you mentioned, it should carry you for over 2 weeks depending on how constant power supply is in your area.

About how many units you'll be consuming per day, it would be difficult for me to estimate it cos my appliances are different from yours. You'd have to monitor the meter by yourself. When you open for sales, check the units. And after closing for the day, check it again. If it was 97 units when you opened, and dropped to 90 or 88 when you closed. You would be able to calculate how many days/weeks the 90 units should last. And remember to move your change over to gen or neutral before locking up so you won't burn more units over night.

But note that your calculations wouldn't be accurate cos NEPA would definitely size power at intervals. Meaning you can use 8 units today and maybe 2 or 3 units the following day. Just bear it in mind that 6k should carry you for 2-3 weeks regardless of how constant power supply is in your area. That way you'll know how to budged money for units.

500 gives you approximately 7.50kwh

Health / Re: What Are The Benefits Of Drinking Alcohol? by Rinoxy: 8:52am On Jan 23

Nonsense question.

People who doesn't drink are mostly prone to depression and anxiety....
The truth is that people who does not drink are very rude, wicked and brutal, they always harbour anger, they are so sensitive to everything and most women don't like them because they are too serious and funless.

Another thing about people who doesn't drink is that they womanize a lot, they are womanizers and gossip alot. They can dash women all their money...

You now ask the question, what makes this people happy?.... nothing....they are into pure gambling or womanizers..

Pure truth
People who DON'T drink.

data science... It's a good field to dive into, also learn a programming language I will suggest python or C#

With those two tech skills you will be able to enter into conversations that can provide opportunities... And expand your network... Also you would have to get a lot of mentors and ask a ton of questions ... 6month of daily learning for a minimum of 4 hours will transform your life ... I tell you because I went down that road and initially it was tough but I decided it was a do or die affair and eventually it became so easy, and it is feeding me and my family in this useless economy .. I am even happy becasue my clients are international and so if e bad for naija, e good for me.... If you are serious I would advice you to never give up ...

Remember there are no failures in life, there are only people who quit!
You don't have an idea what this has done to my mind as regards direction. Thank you and GOD bless you.

This is more than keypad.

The structure and the capitalisation is not keypad typing rubbish. It is a poorly trained human being typing rubbish and to be working for a "consulting firm", he was overpaid. If I saw his writing, his consulting firm would not even get a gutter clearing job in my firm.

Golden rule.

My own rule one is to pay myself 50% first and then be stringent with rest. My wife done dey look me say she need bigger house. I just dey look her with bombastic side-eye

My own rule 2 is rent shouldn't be more than 2 months salary. Do this and half of your financial problems are solved.
I'll have to learn this your rule 2. As for rent, my one month salary pays my rent.

100k savings cannot do much in today Nigeria. In a year that would be 1.2m.

He cannot buy a land or anything with such money. That's why before the 3rd or 4th months he might have been pressured to go and spent it.

We are Nigerians and how culture is different from that of White. If immediate family don't ask for that saved money extended family will ask for it. Just yesterday my jenior ones was asking for rent in school. .

You can't escape not spending it.

Your present experience isn't every other person's reality. Different strokes for different folks.

Good evening...

I think that aside from your income, your other financial commitments and age play a role. For instance, if you are from a rich home where no one is expecting anything from you, your case may be different from another colleague who's a bread winner for the entire extended family.
That said, some people advise 50-30-20 (50% of income for need- food, transportation, accomodation and other essentials.
30% for wants -that is other necessities that aren't very compulsory for your existence including helping people and contributing to association/ religious groups while 20% goes into compulsory savings) you may decide to switch the 30 and 20 based on your personality and age. But my rule of thumb is to save atleast 20% of income monthly.
Mutual fund has been very helpful to me because aside from being an investment, you don't have it readily available like using your bank ATM to withdraw at the slightest need (takes about 48 hours to get your fund if you opt to withdraw.)

40- 45k investment won't be bad
I truly needed this. Thanks a lot.

I wasn't earning this much when I realised I wasn't doing well with financial management. I changed my style even without earning any extra.

1. Open a mutual fund investment with either Stanbic IBTC, United Capital or FBNQuest. (There are others but I recommend any of these)
2. Make it a habit to transfer a certain amount into the investment account once you get your salary. I will recommend a minimum of 100k
With this, you plan to live on whatever is remaining. Close your mind to the fact you have this investment on the side.
3. Start to think of business you can start on the side and work towards that for the next 6 months.
(If you are putting down 100k in a money market fund, you will be surprised that by July or thereabouts, you may have another 40-70k as gain on investment)
4. Start the business either as side business or business for your wife
5. Continue to drop the said amount monthly until you achieve your financial goals
Pls can you do a breakdown for a 180k earner? At your convenience. Thanks.
